Alright everyone, this is NOT the video you have been waiting for. I was hoping for better timing but all the horses were having lunch and so I opted to not get Julius out yet. Still nice to hang around all of them. Also, I’m testing out new camera equipment so I can try and do a better job.

In my ultimate fantasy, I am like Yvonne moving easily among the horses while caring for them, training them, riding, etc. In my mildly less delusional fantasy, I am like James. I love the horses, but my they are big! Having been a horse crazy girl, I know more of the horse vocabulary, though the words never got near a horse. The reality of being a girl dad who is new to horses is just as legit as Yvonne being an experienced horse woman with years of education about their care. The realities are just different. I am happy to enjoy both. ❤

I am sure the farrier will find a solution for Julius drokpping his shoes. It is not just a friesian thing, some horses do, some never. Don't worry. Julius should be fine with being shaved. It's a grooming thing. Most of the time done before something special,or just general grooming. It would be great for your daughter to learn how to do that and trim legs and brush out feathers. At his age,Julius is used to it. Also, his ears get trimmed with the clippers. She is so lucky to get a horse that comes from a breeder who breeds for looks and temperament. The foals in that stable are handled from birth,so they are used to people. We understand this is all new to you. You'll get the hang of it. We just love horses,especially the amazing Friesians. Thank you for sharing!🎉❤

Remember when Jasper, King of the Friesian horses, was retired? They had his progeny (several generations) in the arena. It was a sight to behold! Jasper is Eefje’s dad with Queen Uniek. They did something similar at Stal G. I think Saly, who is also a Kroon (Crown) mare, had the most offspring still at Stal G at the time. Really quite something.

I have a big dork of a German Shepherd. Her name is Sadie & she saved my life. Sadie led me to befriend a stable owner & folks there, pushed me to get out of my bubble & to get back to living. Some horse tips for you! Most horses don’t like their faces touched unless they know you really well. Let them smell your hands and then rub them on their neck. Put your nose next to theirs and connect with them through breath. It helps them learn who you are and trust you. When they put their ears back and down, they are not happy. Hope this helps! Pellets are also great lures for getting horse to do what you need them to do. And if you get a colorful scoop for them, they will learn the sight and sound of it means food. And suddenly, they will be your best friend!

Try scratching them along the side of their faces. A lot of horses are not going to like you going for the top of their face or their nose. You can tell what each horse likes by how they react to where you touch them. And they will ALL be different. Horse shoe guy= farrier. 😊 you are doing great.

They new tracking set up works well. Not only are you getting a crash course in horses but you’re also learning to be a videographer! It’s amazing the places horses will take you. 😉 So glad you have a Thoroughbred (TB) in the stable. I’ve spent my entire life among the horse farms of central Kentucky. My family was involved in breeding Thoroughbreds for 3 generations. I have friends that retrain TB’s for second careers. They are great horses that can do anything.

I wonder what type of hay he gets. Alfalfa, Timothy or another type…..I had a friesian that threw shoes….i eventually left shoes off of him because he was not on a hard surface that often….finding a great ferrier to work on friesians can be hard…..they maybe do not see a lot of friesians in Nebraska …..you will learn quickly what you are doing ….

Yea, when we were getting him it was a “shoes optional” type of discussion. He has nearly zero concrete to walk on. Maybe we will find a better way. In 8 months or so, just had two issues.

I am 64 and my parents or I could never afford a horse or a Ferrari (my dream car is a bottle green Jaguar). I absolutely applaud you for taking on this to share Julius. I guess it's not just for your daughter but now you understand how much we follow her new horse's mom. Thank you but don't feel you ever HAVE TO. It does sound like you are having fun. I am open to learning more about Ferraris!

Misters are all over the stables, no flys at all. They do hang out in the paddocks and so we have those face coverings that help in the bad times

A horse barn is the best place to chill and relax. When I was younger, I had a Tennessee Walker, and I’d go out to the barn and sit on the edge of his manger just listening to him chew his hay. So quiet and relaxing! So I totally agree with you about being in the horse barn. You’re doing a fantastic job with your videos. I love watching your easy going attitude around the horses.
