turkey tail (Trametes versicolor) will come in a million different shades & colours. the give away is the underside which should be snow white (or close pending on the environmental variables) with super small, tightly packed pores (2 per mm) versicolor means "of several colors" you can also grow these at home if you like.

The underside was white with tightly packed pores, so it confirms my suspicion that it was turkey tail! 😊

Between the two mushroom books you heald up at the start of ur video, Which one would u recommend? I can't decide between the two, Great video btw.

Both are great to have! If you're look specifically for edible species, Wild Edible Mushrooms of Ontario is the better one. The info/photos are clearer and more concise. I find that the information in Mushrooms of Ontario & Eastern Canada to be a little outdated (it was originally published in 1999), but it's always good to have multiple books to compare your findings to, especially when dealing with toxic lookalikes.

I watch another channel called Annestinylife and she knows a lot about mushrooms...she picks mushrooms that on her property in TN. You should send her an email and ask her to identify those two mysterious mushrooms. I'm willing to bet she could identify them. I wouldn't trust myself either on eating hand picked mushrooms. For now I'll continue to buy my portobella mushrooms at the supermarket. Thanks for sharing 👍😊

I'll definitely check her out and see if she knows what the mystery mushrooms are. Thanks for sharing! 😊

Is the second mystery mushroom enoki?
@littleurbangardener3 жыл бұрын
I don't think so. Wild enoki mushrooms grow on wood and these guys were growing in soil. Their caps look a little different as well.

I think the mystery lactarius is a pine mushroom
@littleurbangardener3 жыл бұрын
I do see some similarities, but that species is mainly found along the Pacific coasts of Canada and I'm in Ontario.

@@littleurbangardener ahh true, then it's probably Russula brevipes which can turn into lobster mushrooms:)

@@AdventuresofTheGreatBanana So cool! Maybe if I had gone up north a bit later, I would've had my hands on a delicious lobster mushroom.

You don't need to travel 2 hours north of Toronto! 😁 I live in Thornhill/North York and there's a regular old forest near me that is absolutely teeming with mushrooms and wild edibles. I'm always learning about some new food thats growing right under my nose. Hit me up if you'd like to come foraging with us! 🙂
