Before, my skin wasn't smooth and showed dark spots. However now, after applying this littleexetra vitamin C face serum, it all has changed. My skin feels much softer and clearer. Those dark spots have nearly gone. Now my skin looks shiny and radiant, something I really like. The best part? I do not need to apply as much makeup anymore since this serum works so well! It doesn't make me feel sticky, which is fantastic for me. The serum goes into my skin fast and does not leave any leftovers.

The Ordinary vitamin c 30% suspension works on me!! I know it stings because it is too strong, but I followed the brand’s instruction: mix the suspension with a light moisturizer to lessen the strong formula, and for me I use whitening moisturizer which makes the product more effective on my skin. It’s also convenient because i can use it for a long time since i mix it with a moisturizer. Also my skin becomes luminous and brighten, and prevents my pimples from coming back.

I love The Ordinary vitamin C, especially the powder which I mixed with my skin body moisturizer and I totally see a huge difference, skin is firmer and brighter. I don't use it on my face but I use the vitamin c serums and suspension 23% every morning. I have no complaints about The Ordinary, I love all the products but my skin is not delicate, doesn't get irritated easily, so I can imagine it doesn't work for everyone.

For people with sensitive acne prone oily skin, the ordinary's ascorbic acid 8% + alpha arbutin 2% did wonders. Just to be sure that it was only the ascorbic acid I didn't use any other products alongside ascorbic acid just a moisturizer. I've tried a korean vit c serum that had 21% vit c in it and it burned my skin, I've tried other vit c serums but it either caused irritation or burned my skin. This is my personal experience .

This was interesting. For anyone who has sensitive skin and wants brightening and lightening of pigmentation, I have been using the ascorbic acid 8%/arbutin successfully by adding in a drop of the ordinary resveratrol/ferulic acid product. That acts as a preservative. There is no ph, since it is in a solvent, so actually you can apply it on damp skin. My bottle has lasted quite a while and I am getting great results. It doesn't worsen my acne either. My skin experiences no irritation with it unlike other ascorbic acid I have tried. Hope that helps someone
@keanifer
@keanifer 3 жыл бұрын
Whew, there’s a lot of misinformation here. 1. Ok so the resveratrol + ferulic acid serum does not work as a preservative. 2. Both serums are anhydrous and propanediol based. This is why there are no pH values quoted, as for something to have a pH, it needs to be in an aqueous solution. 3. The anhydrous nature of both the ascorbic + alpha arbutin and resveratrol + ferulic acid serums mean that they do not require a preservative. Only formulations that include water as an ingredient or are expected to come into contact with water actually need a preservative system to ward off microbial growth. 4. The ascorbic acid is happily stable in the propanediol based serum and needs nothing added to increase stability / reduce potential of oxidation. 5. Finally, I hope you have not mixed the serums in the bottles as that’s not what they are designed for. Instead just apply a few drops of each to your palm each time to combine before applying to your face etc.
@pajamamama5965
@pajamamama5965 3 жыл бұрын
@@keanifer Thank you for your thoughtful response. I am aware that both products are anhydrous and have no ph, although when it hits damp skin, it combines with the water to form a very low ph, approximately 1.5 to 3. When I used the word preservative, I was referring to the mechanism within the skin which is complex and difficult to describe in layman's terms. Simply put, the ferulic acid increases efficacy of the ascorbic acid in the antioxidant properties for the skin. The ascorbic acid is stable in the propanedial long term, longer than an aqueous solution. I have seen excellent results in my own skin with this combination

@@gk4539 The thing you have to remember with Dr. Dray is she loves products with data from clinical trials. Before I go on, it's one of the reasons why I love watching her. 🙂 I don't always agree though! Skinceuticals is the only vitamin C serum that has the kind of data our good doctor likes, so it's understandable that's the only one she would really promote, especially considering vitamin C has a few parameters for it to actually work. However, I'm more in agreement with other dermatologists in that other vitamin C products also work. Dr. Dray is more of the "show me the data that it actually works" rather than go by personal testimonies.

I always appreciate hearing your take on products and appreciate the level (and quality) of evidence you look for before recommending a product. I was confused by some of you concerns re: the ordinary’s ascorbic acid products, particularly your concern that they don’t list the ph. All their ascorbic acid formulations are waterless. I use the vitaminc c 23% w/ HA spheres, and though it does have a brightening effect - you are right. It's more like a heavy duty moisturizer. I use it at night, beneath my usual moisturizer. And I wake up less dry (I have oily skin). And I admit: it. is. very irritating. Contrary to what one might think, it hurts less when I exfoliate before application, or you can mitigate the burning/stinging sensation by immediately applying moisturizer - but you should haven't to do that with a product that is intended for daily use. So. I'm switching once I finish it :)) Glad I found this video.

I am a big fan of Allies of Skin vit c serums. They're not cheap, and I use the 20% in summer and 35% in winter. It was actually my first time using vit c and I saw clear brightening on my face. My face used to be so much darker than my neck, after a bottle, I saw the face brightening up. I wish there were more affordable alternatives, but my understanding is that vit c is difficult to formulate, thus the high cost. I'm really happy with Allies of Skin and will be sticking to it.

The reason why Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2%, Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2% and Vitamin C Suspension 30% in Silicone don't have a pH listed is because they are water-less formulas. You can't test for pH levels in products without water. Regarding the other Vitamin C's, very valid criticisms. Skinceuticals just isn't an option for everyone ❤️👏

Thank you for properly pronouncing ascorbic and letting me know I’ve sounded like a ding bat for 20 years by saying *asorbic* 🤦‍♀️ I worked in the body care and skin care industry for years. I helped people choose products based on their needs. I know enough about the properties of different ingredients to really help someone take great care of themselves but apparently I don’t know how to pronounce ascorbic. No one ever corrected me and I stupidly thought the C was silent 🤦‍♀️ at least I could pronounce jojoba oil. I used to giggle inside when people would pronounce the j’s when saying jojoba. I wonder if anyone ever giggled at me saying ASORBIC 🤦

Uhm but... How can ascorbic acid have a pH if it's dissolved in a non-acqueous solvent, like silicon or squalane? Of course they don't tell you the pH, it doesn't have one! I don't know what happens to it in the skin, if the ascorbic acid changes phase or something, but you can't say the product is bad because they don't mention it's pH if it doesn't have a pH because there's no water in the formula

the minimum purchase for free shipping is £50 and if you spend less than that, its absurdly high at around £25. It doesn't make sense to buy a £10 Serum and then sooo much on shipping, so I'll probably end up spending £50. I'm not really interested in their other products though and I can't buy more than 1 vitamin c in advance or it'll oxidise. I really want to try the c glow but I don't really think it's a cheap option. How have people found a way around this?

The thing with Dr Dray is that... She is a derm, and at the end of the day she feels kinda uncomfortable recommending unstable ingredients in formulas that weren't tested in clinical trials. Many other influencers will tell you they like it, and probably it works for you! Itsnjust that, as a derm, she only trusts proven formulas when it comes to unstable ingredients (hence why she only recommends Skinceuticals for Vitamin C)
@natgl11

I've tried it and loved it! but it does go off very quickly. if you buy it, I recommend also purchasing the small empty bottle that they sell. that way you can keep the regular bottle in the fridge for refilling the smaller one (holds about a week's worth of product), which you can keep in your bathroom or wherever you do your skincare. I've tried a couple of the ordinary's vitamin c products (I only liked the one with alpha arbutin), but I definitely prefer the one from geek and gorgeous. overall the brand is great, I've also tried their super gentle exfoliator (if I remember correctly it's called calm down and has pha) and their hydrating toner and really enjoyed both. I definitely want to try more of their products! edit: I forgot I also tried their jelly cleanser and niacinamide! they were ok products but forgettable haha the cleanser is very gentle, feels a bit like the cerave hydrating one. the niacinamide feels similar to the ordinary's, but it's less drying and doesn't foam up on the skin or pill with other products.

There were two studies in the mid 00's that tested 5% sodium ascorbyl phosphate as a possible acne treatment. The studies were somewhat limited, but it performed better than BP and on par with .2% retinol. I wonder whatever happened since, because I haven't come across any products with SAP marketed towards acne prone skin. Most of the hype is around questionable vitamin C formulations for skin brightening and rejuvenation.

Dr Dray, as a researcher myself, I have to say, that you should take in consideration that Vit C in its deravtive forms have been used and are recommanded a lot to POC patients. In addtion, as you may know, research has never took them into account espacially in the derm sector. So saying there is no research out there (or only in Petri dish) that show their its efficacy, then why not mentionning all the Derm collegues or MD's using derivatives with their patients POC? It would get rid of the invisbility of POC in derm research, and talk about real and acutal patients using Vit C derivatives (and how they appreciate-or not their products). I beleive this would definitely offer a broader spectrum of the knowledge developed and updated data about this particular compound (sorry french is my first langage). Thanks again for the presentation, always super interesting :-)
