Great tutorial! I really liked the way you broke it down, giving the student a chance to be successful at each part before putting it all together. Thanks!
@ThomMillsDrums2 жыл бұрын
Yeah that’s it, if you break it down into manageable chunks it’s easier to digest

I really appreciate your video lessons it helps to learn a song in segments then play along in addition to your explanations playing a fill slow and then up to speed. Thanks!

Thanks a lot for this Video! I struggled a lot trying to figure out what happens on the drums by listening to it. But while playing along it ends in a desaster without a clear plan... So i decided to play it much more simlyfied, so my band was able to play it. But that never satisfyied me though they said it was ok. Fun comes along with confidence 🙂.

Don’t worry too much about the detail, try and and just get the main groove feel down and the details can be filled in later. Keep it up and keep working it’s a tough song and will come in time!

Nice breakdown. I find it easier to do that triplet fill leading with my left hand.

Very nice lesson. Much much better than all the others on the web. Well done. All I needed was the sticking on the fill and you nailed it. Thanks.

My approach is im covering the song not duplicating it. I dont feel i have to play the fills exactly like Travis does. Do your own thing. If it sounds good it works.
@ThomMillsDrums Жыл бұрын
For sure my man, you don’t have to replicate all the parts. I’d say making sure kick patterns are correct makes a massive difference and makes it groove and feel good, slots in with the other instruments and also just knowing the structure helps massively. Not sure if this one does but I usually include the song chart (structure) in the description so check that out!

I definitely agree that when playing a song, it's perfectly fine to do your own thing, that's really great to develop creativity and your own style. I will say however, it can be useful to learn some songs exactly the way they were written, it allows you to possibly learn how and why certain drummers do the things they do, and helps discover new things. So essentially I think there's value in both.

you hit a tom during your performance instead of the hi-hat, during the first fill but the timing was still perfect ;) Great Video though brother your a excellent drummer and teacher.
@ThomMillsDrums Жыл бұрын
Oh whoops, well yeh that fill is mostly timing but great spot!
@jgreen20153 жыл бұрын
For the awesome fill midway through verse one i used to do what you do - keep right hand doing 8th notes on hats and snare and add the inbetween 16th notes on snare with my left. I actually find it easier to do the 8th note snare after the second hihat hit (Pss dakadaka pss KA) with my left and break the constant 8th notes of the right. Just gives that micro second extra breathing space at full tempo and ensures i get a good snare hit on the beat Try it. That final hat to snare move can be rushed and ill-defined
@ThomMillsDrums3 жыл бұрын
Nice one, it’s all about getting that sticking right and making it feel good at the same time!
@jgreen20153 жыл бұрын
@@ThomMillsDrums its a really easy habit to fall into "Oh look..every 8th note is hit so ill just keep my right playing constantly" I realised to break that rule on "one good reason". The final fill in the "breakdown" goes 1 e & a 2 e & a 3 e & a 4 e & a S t f k S -S t f k S - S t f f R L R R -R L R R - RLRL F. F Is easier at first but ultimately less fluid to play than R L R L -R L R L - RLRL F. F

@@ThomMillsDrums literally just uploaded cover of one good reason. At the the 2min30 mark is the fill i mean - watch how the left hand comes down on the snare after the kick. Had just started up again after 10 years if not drumming because of lockdown and it just happened by accident. Ps listen on headphones or tv as toms dont come through on phone
