All The Stations

All The Stations

7 жыл бұрын

Ok, DO NOT SEND US ANYTHING YET! We'll release a template in a couple of weeks time for you to download. When we do, the two things are:
1. If you live outside of the UK and English is not your first language, we want you to hold up the sign that says 'All The Stations' in your language (and tell us which language that is!) and take a photo of yourself and send it into us.
2. If you're in the UK - Buy an advance ticket NOW for the August 12th/13th weekend. Take our template with you (again, released in a couple of weeks time), print it out, take it with you and get a photo of yourself at the destination that you go to and send it into us...
We'll then make video montages of all the photos that get sent in and publish them here at the end of our trip as a celebration and 'thanks' to you all for watching and getting involved.
Thanks!
Geoff & Vicki

Zach Fisher Here in Phoenix, we still have the station (Now owned by Sprint), but there's no damn trains! Despite Arizona hosting 2 of Amtrak's 4 east-west mainlines, we have no service in the Capitol city. The nearest station is 40 miles south in Maricopa, with service 3 days a week in each direction (Try-weakly). A one-station hop can take you 2 days to get back.

I've been to most of the stations around me in northern California, but I haven't been to San Luis Obispo yet going towards LA, so I'll see if I can do that and visit some friends down there. Love this series and even though I almost never comment on KZbin, I knew I had to for this one. Trains are very important which is why I'm about to graduate in civil engineering with a focus in transportation. I love Britain too, went there a couple years ago and loved it and am hoping to go back soon. August 12 is my birthday too so it'll be a double celebration for me! :)

I'll be honest, American rail roads suck. And finding someplace I haven't been leaves China, Japan,Russia and Australia. I'm eager to go to the latter, and not really interested in the previous three. Thus, I ask you to forgive me if I don't step up to the challenge. Interestingly, if you look at a map of Texas, you'll note a town roughly every 20 miles. They were watering stations for early steam locomotives. To my dismay, I've probably been through all of them, at highway speed, glancing at the fuel gauge and wondering if I can make the next town before I need petrol.

I live in Stretford and until last weekend had never been to Urmston station (went to Aigburth in Liverpool to watch Cricket), one of the stations along the way was Urmston (which is just down the road from Stretford and I have been there many times, just not on the train before then). Incidentally I've already booked a train journey on the 12th August though I have been there before (going to London for a few days and coming Home on the 12th) managed to get one of those Virgin trains £11 tickets both ways (it cost me £12.60 to get to Aigburth return but only £11 to go to London one-way). I was in Spain (near Malaga) in May and made use of their local rail service - light-years ahead of the UK's pacer trains and much cheaper too!

The UK network has not changed a lot in recent years, there has rather been new lines opening (to Tweedbank in Scotland). However, that is not the case in Continental Europe; I know there has been closures of passenger lines since 2010 in Portugal, France, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, Croatia, Sweden, Finland, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Switzerland, Germany and probably Spain too.. (Yes, I mentioned them all..) Europe needs you to do all the stations on an Interrail ticket :D I believe it is nearly 30 000 stations with passenger services, you can do it!

However, a week later on 21st we'll be in Tennessee (where I've never been) viewing the total solar eclipse. I do realise that this is bending the rules possibly beyond breaking point but a photo with the sign and the eclipse and a "rail road station" has to be worth pushing the envelope.
