Fabulous month for you. The denim dress is incredible! If you haven't tried this, sometimes hammering thick layers of denim flattens them for buttonholes. I hammer onto the bottom of a cast iron skillet, and it makes a big difference. Worth a try!

I love your denim dress hack Amelia, it looks great. Could you use similar poppers to those on your Pogonip to fasten the cuffs on the dress instead of buttons? Your pogonip looks great too. Love the fabric choice and high neck. It looks super cosy ❤

Beautiful makes, Amelia! Have you considered sewing the buttonholes in each layer of the cuff before it's constructed, or even cut out, as a work around? It would be a little challenging to do, but might do the trick. Basting the pieces before they're sewn might help, too.

Wow, love your makes. I really like the fact you take time over making your garments and enjoy the process. I want to make staple pieces too that I can call on and not just churn things out in a day and not finish hems etc. this is fine if that’s what you want but not for me. I love machine embroidery so spending time on my machine is a pleasurable experience. I have four interchangeable pieces I am making, first the Heather dress which is kind to me as it gives more ease. Then a hathor waistcoat, onyx pants and jarrah sweatshirt. All in fabrics that go well together. Once I’ve made these I’ll work on my next stapes. Thanks for sharing ❤

Uhhhh......I will send my measurements and take 1 of each of those please!❤😅😂 That is just to let you know that I loved ALL of them. Absolute perfection.😊 I just finished up a Liesel&Co classic button front shirt in a dark blue chambray fabric. I took my time as well, and loved the outcome. I started it in the fall and worked on it here and there. I was making my granddaughter some things and a pair of pjs for her brother. That is why the long delay in getting it finished. Also took my time, but obviously I didn't need that long.😅 I have a shirt dress for myself and a couple spring dresses cut out for my granddaughter. I also have a couple baby quilts I need to get made. Could be a busy late winter, early spring. Thank you for your inspiring videoes!🤗

Love the makes this month Amelia. It's been really hot here in Western Australia. I'm talking 45 degrees hot! So it's been too hot for humans. Despite that though, this week I have been working on making swimwear for myself. I've almost finished two sets. School went back this week also so it has been a little busy getting back into the swing of things. Once the swimwear is complete, I'll need to make a long sleeved white shirt and linen pants (before Thursday) so that I have something worth wearing to the school swimming carnival. The bathers will be required as I'm a water starter for the children who find swimming a bit of a challenge. It also means I can go to water aerobics and the hydrotherapy pool to exercise before my hip surgery in March - it will help the muscles to be stronger to aid recovery. I also need to find time to make headbands, my red bra (it's a kit for the Black Beauty bra and I've been wanting to make it for over a year now) and some sleepwear, probably nighties as they will fill three categories of a sewing challenge I'm doing this year. All this might not happen in the space of a week but I'll give it a good hard crack nevertheless. Looking forward to seeing what you use your Shaukat purchase with.

Aw Amelia these winter makes are stunning , I tend to start my winter makes in October / November which means by January/ February I’m ready to start on my spring/ summer makes. We tend to holiday quite early and we are planning a four week tour of Italy ( in our motorhome) starting mid May so I’m already planning my holiday makes. Luckily I purchased a few summer fabrics late last summer which give me a head start. Xx

I live in the southern U.S. and we really only get about 6 weeks of winter so I'm already focused on my spring sewing. I love your dresses and often times wish I wore dresses more often. I am planning on making a few and forcing myself to give it a go. I'm not originally from the south and it can get quite hot here and dresses are much more comfortable.

I ❤ your pogonip! I am so glad I watched this before sewing up mine later today. I think I will adapt mine as well including lengthening the sleeve and widening the bands. I purchased a pre-quilted fabric from Blackbird fabrics that is hot pink on one side and black on the other. I also have a cream Sherpa that I have from Discovery Fabrics that I was going to make a Patagonia dupe with but it may end up a Pogonip after seeing yours. For your denim dress (which looks amazing) I would have done snaps instead of buttons, even though they cause me great anxiety 😂. Thank you so much for sharing your makes in detail, it really helps! Happy weekend from Vancouver Island 🇨🇦 😊

Fabulous makes Amelia. Love your denim dress, its a really 70's style and very smart but casual lol if that makes sense. I'm on the fence with the pogonip because of the elasticated waist and cropped style. I think what you have done with yours has given me pause for thought about it, because I'm with you on the length. Yours is stunning and very trendy. No more winter makes for me, I'm onto spring and summer sewing already.

Amazing makes Amelia, denim dress is my favourite, absolutely love it! I’m realising I have a soft spot for 70s stuff 😉 No tried and tested ideas for the buttonholes I’m afraid. Only thing I thought of was doing 2 separate button holes on each side of the fabric before you make the cuff so you’re just working on a single layer but then I guess you’d have to sew round it afterwards to stop the 2 layers from separating??!! Might not hold up well if you’re undoing the buttons a lot but if they’re less functional then it might work. I’m not very experienced though so just likes trying to think of a solution, might not be at all practical! Congrats on all your lovely makes for January xx

beautiful quality makes, all lovely, particularly like the pogonip and the denim dress, dreamy. Same here with Friday pattern Co, always need 2 to 3 inches more on sleeve length. I do have longer arms but usually add 1 inch on other patterns, Friday pattern Co seem to come up particularly short. Still only want to make cosy comfies, not wanting to make spring makes yet

Got stuck myself on thick sweatshirting trying to make buttonholes, machine was giving me fits. (Really heavyweight material, 2 layers) oddly enough, it was recommended to me to use a tear away interfacing, that it wasn’t the motor of the machine that couldn’t get through the fabric, and I had the right needle, but the feed dogs were confused. By adding the temp interfacing (I used tear away and rinse away) on the bottom, it gave the feed dogs something besides the heavy fabric to grab into, and got those buttonholes in. That said, snaps are a useful option when buttonholes are harder than they should be. Hope that’s helpful.
