I’m so glad you love your cover stitch machine. I do have to hand stitch in all my tails still. Sometimes I have trouble getting mine to release my stitches. But I do love it. As someone in the US, I do not DBP because it is too warm!! I’m old enough that I have temperature control issues and I just find I overheat in it. So my 22 year old daughter has inherited the leggings and swing dress I made a while back. She love it.

Beautiful work Amelia! I’m in the US and have used DBP because it’s so easy to get. A few dress patterns I’ve used and like are McCalls 8064, Butterick 6621 (I have pictures on my Instagram page, if you’re interested 😊) and I want to try New Look 6650 next. As for Indy patterns, I have made the Galena dress from Styla Patterns (a free pattern) and loved it. I also think a Keilo wrap dress or the Estelle by SOI would work well with DBP. I think with DBP you need a pattern that has the tiniest bit of positive ease if you’re not looking for body-con type of a look. 💖
@jankerslake581311 ай бұрын
I can highly recommend New Look 6650 - it’s not too clingy and because of the built in wrap tie is very flattering. I’ve made it several times.

Thank you so much for these recommendations, I will definitely look into them - I have the Galena Dress pattern so I might have a look at that one first. Thank you!

Hello Amelia. I love all of your makes, and your little boy who made the pyjamas for his big brother for Christmas is just adorable. In regards to DBP, Lush Fabrics who are situated in Perth stock a lot of the DBP and other knitted fabrics, you can see what is new in stock by subscribing to their KZbin channel. I am in the process of making a dress from DBP, from a pattern from Pattern Emporium called 'Dream On Tiered Dress', Pattern Emporium have a lot of patterns that can be made with DBP (and Pattern Emporium is Australian). You asked for a recommended knit dress pattern and I can highly recommend the 'Asta' dress by Wardrobe By Me. It is great to see you back on KZbin as you are so inspiring!

Happy new year Amelia🎉 about the jersey dress, what I do when I want to use a clingy fabric is to add a lining, it may be of the same fabric or a similar one or even if the design aloud it, I use compresion fabric, as it was an integrated control garment, that really makes me feel more confident in those really clingy, very thin jerseys, hope it helps 😉 btw the dress its lovely on you but I get it, I had many makes I didn’t use because they made me feel not quite confident, thanks for sharing your makes with us! ❤
@sewamelia11 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for the suggestion! I think it might have felt better with a lining but I also think it might be the wrong length. I might have a think about it, but I also think I might end up repurposing the fabric and making something for my children!

Beautiful garments Amelia - so polished and beautifully finished. New Look 6650 is a great pattern for stretch jersey fabric. I’ve made it numerous times. It’s not such a smart dress as the green Christmas one you made - which looks lovely on you, btw. The NL pattern has a built in waist tie which covers my tummy and is very forgiving at hiding it! I’ve never used double brushed poly (can’t get it in the UK) but from what I’ve seen of it, it should work with this pattern.

Wow! You have been busy! Great makes! To be honest, I try not to buy anything with polyester content. Unfortunately, polyester takes 100 years to decompose, so it is a horrible landfill issue. I just can't do it. Having sewed with DBP in years gone by, it certainly easy to sew up. Love your Portmanteau Shacket. I recently purchased the pattern. Great idea to use quilted fabric. Beautiful print. ❤

I do not like double brushed poly. Same reasons as you. I made my grandson pj’s out of some nice quality DBP and he absolutely loves them. There is a difference in quality amongst DBP, but even so it is not for me. Love the Shackleton on you the fit is great. It looks very stylish.

My favourite knit dress pattern is the Pattern Emporium Wanderlust dress. I have made it in various jersey knits, including double brushed Polly and absolutely love it. I have never made any jersey dress in a solid though, always a print. I find all solid jerseys show your lumps, bumps, and undergarments, however, prints don't. And I have lots of lumps and bumps that could show. 😂

Great makes - as always! I’m not in love with your Christmas dress only because I’m weird and can’t stand “cut outs”. You know “cold shoulders, key-holes etc” nothing to do with your dress or your sewing just a personal foible and too many years, way back when, with the nuns.🤪 The jacket is wonderful. I think I would like to see you wearing it over a black body and pants. Happy sewing and wearing.🦘🇦🇺
@sewamelia11 ай бұрын
I totally agree about the cut out - I wish I had sewn the version with no cut out as I think might have liked it more. It was good to give it a try, as I have seen cut outs everywhere this autumn/winter, but I think this dress has confirmed that they are not for me! I will definitely pair the jacket with black jeans and my Elysian bodysuit - that will look really nice I think. Thanks for watching!

As usual, all your makes are beautifully done. I have 2 jersey dresses that I love. One is the Georgie dress by Sew Over It. You can make it in Ponte and viscose jersey. I love my Ponte one but I also made a viscose jersey but don’t like it as the fabric really drags the dress down. Last year I made one in cotton jersey and I love it too. 😊 My other dress is the Sew Over It Edie top with the Georgie gathered skirt but you can just make any jersey top with a gathered skirt. I wear them both lots
@sewamelia11 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for those suggestions. I have the Georgie Dress pattern, so I will look at that one, although it may be better not in a DBP if the viscose jersey was a little heavy for it.
@mnoeliarc11 ай бұрын
I just find viscose jersey not that suitable for dresses. I find a thin cotton jersey tends to perform better. 😊

Happy new year Amelia, I love all your recent makes and I love the double brushed poly cotton fabrics , have you thought of using the fabric from your green dress to make your daughter a dress and using the fabric that you are going to use to make your daughter a dress for you, I think plain fabrics tend to be unforgiving whereas patterned fabrics hide all underwear lines. It’s just a suggestion but it might make better use of the green dress fabric especially if you feel uncomfortable in it . Xx
@sewamelia11 ай бұрын
Thank you so much Anne, I really like that suggestion as it would make good use of the plain green fabric! I might turn that into a dress for my daughter, or a t-shirt for my son. The floral fabric feels a little heavier weight too, so might look better than the plain green.

Amelia, your quilted jacket came out lovely! I do use DBP on a regular basis (which I buy at Joann’s). It is perfect as a Freya cowl neck top. I made a cream version and wear it all the time.
