HOW EXCITING!!! And eek you’ve got to keep me updated on your journey 😍 I would say these are my main things to focus on, but if you want anything else message me on Instagram I can send you a voice note being more elaborate 🤪 1. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself, it can get so so overwhelming and you may feel a bit of self doubt but just remind yourself you’re not alone and IT IS a lot. Be patient because it will come with time. 2. You don’t need to be the perfect student. Now this doesn’t mean not to do all of the work, but it’s more on the side of don’t pressurise yourself to get the highest grades - I know I put so much pressure on myself in first year and in second and third year I looked back thinking “I wish I took more time to live live in the first year” because it gets more time-consuming especially when placements come round. 3. In my opinion one of the best things you can do is find your outlet whether that be creative, athletic, social - it’s using first year to find a balance because you don’t want your life to be consumed with physio to where you start hating it. Hence why for me I started doing KZbin but was also super into my KZbin and found a good group of friends. 4. On that point don’t put pressure on staying in the same friend group - you can start off the year with one group and feel yourself start to gravitate to other people. I call that ‘natural vibe gravitation’ haha! And it totally happened to me! You want to find that supportive bunch 🥰 There’s so many but hopefully that’s a good start! Let me know if you want work specific ones ☺️

Honestly when you’re just coming into physio I’d say focus more on your anatomy/physiology textbooks - for those it might be best to check out what your library has as they’re usually more expensive as they’re huge textbooks. But if you can afford it ones like www.amazon.co.uk/Anatomy-Human-Movement-Physiotherapy-Essentials/dp/0702072265/ref=asc_df_0702072265_nodl/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=310970710731&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=1330828806449389207&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006912&hvtargid=pla-558729633082&psc=1&th=1&psc=1 OR books like fundamentals of anatomy and physiology :) There are many out there! And then all your teachmeanatomy, 3D anatomy, physiopedia is a good place to build your foundation!

Have you thought about doing a uni degree? Or is the apprenticeship whats most ideal?

Thank you so much for this I’m more sure I want to study physiotherapy and although I’m not that sporty anymore I hope I can still fit into it. There isn’t much in physiotherapy students online and about the U.K. course so thank u for this. Do you do placements each year? Can you do more videos about the different wards or like how placements is for you?
@andiecann6114 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the comment Malia! I love hearing people's stories and I must say not everyone who does physio does sports. In fact, the main thing connecting us all is our caring and motivated attitude to helping people, and our interest in the physiological aspect of things. So you will definitely fit in! It's an incredibly fulfilling course :) And of course I can do some videos about placements! The placement schedule split differs from university to university, but for us it's 1 observational placement at the end of first year, 3 in second year and 3 in final year (the last one being an elective placement!) Let me know how everything goes!
@maliamalis63894 жыл бұрын
MMU seems so organised the study packs sounds really good. How much chemistry content is in the topic and besides placenta do u just get thought like anatomy biomechanics etc or is there a module on how to interact with clients/patients. What happens when u miss a placements it sounds like an actual job? sorry for so many questions
@andiecann6114 жыл бұрын
Don't worry for the questions - I'll definitely do a video more focused on placements but just to answer this now - when on placement it is like a job! So you do have sick days and they totally understand but (for us) it's only five weeks and you have to meet certain hours so you can only miss so much. From the get-go we are taught the way to explain things to a patient using 'layman' terms - for ex. "squeeze your tummy" instead of "contract your abdominal muscles" As for chemistry content, honestly, there is barely any. It is so focused on anatomy, physiology, clinical presentation (so you're objective and subjective assessments) and pathology, and treatment to put it simply.

I think usually they ask for a science however this differs, you can usually find it on their university website under entry requirements or something similar. I suppose everyone is different! You definitely need to spend a decent amount of time studying but if you organise your time well then it shouldn’t feel as much. How long does it take to move up the bands in physio and once graduated in the Uk can one work in Europe or in Canada?
@andiecann6113 жыл бұрын
Yeah you can totally work abroad but you’d have to research regulations of how to switch your uk degree to their physio politics 😁 So to go to Canada you have to take this super long and formal exam 😇
@andiecann6113 жыл бұрын
Oh and you can move up the bands as quick or as slow as you like. You graduate a band 5 and you get the experience however you need to have certain training in order to go for Band 6 etc. You can even find sometimes a band 6 may apply for a band 5 just to be in a certain area. It’s confusing and I don’t completely agree with the banding system but that’s usually how it works!

@andiecann6112 жыл бұрын
Hi! I've just seen my comment wasn't added! But I think it's a bit difficult to kind of specifically indicate what. Within the uni degree it's great in building a foundation of knowledge and building/transitioning to being hands on and finding the way in which to communicate. Now in saying that you do find you learn most when you're actually on placement because you full on experience true cases and put all that knowledge into place. Some trusts may use some protocols and outcome measures which you talk about in uni, but some don't and sue their own, some don't use them at all (either out of choice, time pressures, or just isn't relevant to the area). But all on in the degree with require some 'check box' concepts which are compulsory to include in the degree but may not be relevant clinically, if that makes sense? But yes I can definitely look more into creating it a series or something! Or at least a sit down video! But doing a physio degree would definitely be a good idea especially if you want to branch out further than being a massage therapist and exploring other areas outside MSK settings. If that triggers any thoughts or questions then definitely feel free to shoot me a message on instagram and just comment any other questions :) x
