I am no builder, cabinet builder, but I did teach myself basic cabinet making to build some built-in furniture for my Tiny Home. In ply. As a 67 year old woman that had a arthritic ankle, it wasn't always easy, but I did it. Big sense of satisfaction. And I love ply, because I love Retro.

I rarely read comments under YT videos, so I did not read any this time as well. As I was watching this episod I said to myself: I really like Ray and I feel bad about this as I really liked Paerau as well and it feels like "cheating on him" (don't get me wrong). So my mind was wondering about the episodes with Paerau and how funny - and hard - it was for me (as non native English speaker) to listen to and understand him. Anyway, my thoughts were around Paerau. Then at the end Scott, you tell us about what happened and about the fundraiser. What a coincidence! After this it was a no brainer to support Paerau, and indirectly you @Scott Brown Carpentry . Get well soon Paerau! Robert (from Hungary)

Scott, moment of hope for Paerau, boy I used to work with fell from 3 stories up and shattered both his heels as well as other injuries, docs didn't know how he would end up. He now has heels of steel and was back working pretty quick and also cycles at a high level. So fingers crossed Paerau takes after this boy and pardon the pun, gets back on feet asap.

Your estimate of Paerau's recovery time sounds about right. A guy I was framing with slipped off a roof and landed upright in his feet and shattered both heels. It was about a full year before he was up and mobile again, but even then he had to be gentle with it for long after.

My dad done his heels back in 1995 and is still doing good now, it taken him 1year out of work (truck driver) to heal properly…. His used to go out on a pushbike as often as he could, roughly 5months after operation, he used the tips of his toes to pedal but this helped as his feet were being used in a rotating motion… after 9months he walked lots and still does.. Other people who had this operation have had their feet/foot fused and struggle to walk, best this he can do is keep his feet rotating or he will regret it years down the line! Hope paerau gets better soon and back to work inside a year.

That is a hard injury to recover from. A guy that worked for my dad had a similar accident but on the job site, he was on top of a ladder at about 2 stories high removing a roof sheet when a possum came out of the hole and charged him, he jumped back and landed on his feet. It was 18 months before he was back at work on light duties and I dare say his injuries are no where near as bad. Sending best wishes and I'll share the page around.

Ahhh, I feel your pain Scott and Paerau as well. When your physical health as a tradie is compromised life gets pretty tough, but hopefully time will heal Paerau. Time however does not heal a perfectionist. Whilst a door stop or broad butt hinges may have been a solution for some, those afflicted with perfectionism can become exhausted buy the burden of not doing something right when you have the chance to. Hats off to you Scott for choosing the right path, and giving a fellow perfectionist chippy comfort that we are not mad! If you haven’t found “ Site Inspections” KZbin channel I can highly recommend his content gives me confidence in applying myself to a perfectionist standard is not delusional.👍

Hope Paerau gets back on his feet and forget the dreadfull moment in his life. Unfortunately I understand very well what means bones injuries in our body, specialy in very relevant parts, like feet, legs and spine, and they do take a long time to recover, just keep him with very high spirits and he'll surely be fine... in a year or two... I took two to fully recover from spine injury.

Pretty sure the mullions were never installed purposefully to take any load under any circumstances, regardless of lintel span, even pre-3604. They're there only to form something for the awning to close against or fixed sash or direct glazing to fix into, or to reduce the size of the individual glazing (because glass span for a given thickness is limited by deflection from wind load). Have you seen packers installed between the head sill and lintel over mullions to transfer load? They'd also have needed to rebate the underside of the sill to be flat below the mullion (because as you've correctly pointed out, the sill is sloped so water didn't easily make its way onto the framing) and I've never seen such a rebate on demolition sills. Otherwise the vertical load from the lintel, through the mullion would have a horizontal component due to the slope (ramp). I don't say this to be a smartrrrs - just I've never seen anything to suggest this is a thing.
@dylanclotworthy7635
@dylanclotworthy7635 Жыл бұрын
I am thinking the same thing. The lintel that is spanning that window would have been engineered to take the load of the roof. I'm confused as to why props are needed because frames go up... Roof goes on windows go in. Windows are not factored into the structural properties of load bearing.. Or am I missing something?
