Greenlawn Cemetery Portsmouth, Ohio. Other than Roy Rogers' grandparents buried there, "Alonzo Sly", I do know a tragedy in my family in 1943 that happened in Portsmouth. My Aunt was burned in a house fire at 4 years old. While her father was asleep, she was trapped in the bathroom after setting fire to the gas heater. " Lillian Pauline Savage" 1938-1943.

I work on ancient cemeteries in New England. These little family plots are full of mysteries, sad stories and tragedies of all kinds. Of 115 plots only two headstones reveal how the person died. One (an 11-year-old girl) was "Burnt to Death," and another, an 18-year-old male, was "Shot to Death." Well worth visiting these sites. If nothing else they prove we don't have a monopoly on misery.

Another interesting monument is a granite boulder engraved with the names of the Hamilton family (including Experience Walker). In the early 1700s they were ambushed, killed and scalped by Indians in nearby Alfred while on their way to their land-grant claim.

Thank you for coming to our city to tell about these young teens deaths. A lot of my family is buried in this cemetery, so I grew up on this story. And Ellis actually turned himself in. And there was actually a shootout with the other Ellis and Craft. People gathered by the banks of the river and when the boat came by, and started basically a shootout to kill the other prisoners who were convicted by public opinion of the crime. Our city has tried to replace the older graves. They've replace the graves to our cities founding fathers, and to some murder victims, like these 3.

Ephesians 5:16 tell us " Take every opportunity for doing good, for the days are wicked." Evil deeds have been with us since we were kicked out of Eden, they took a man that had only done good deeds, and was guiltless, and nailed him to a stake. Jesus was his name.

Don't go ghost hunting there. Dad and I brought something home! When you first walk in, it's rumored that the girl with the huge tombstone, lost her head in a car crash. We got the bright idea to take a cassette recorder and clean cassette tape, place it in the graveyard where no can find it, and come back an hour later. We turned it off in the first five minutes. You could hear voices, men talking, horses, and a woman screaming looking for her head. Never been ghost hunting since!

I think our justice system is way too lenient in today's time for crimes such as murder. The justice system accepts a guilty plea for murder and sentences 25 years to life in prison for murder. I think anyone that takes the life of a child or an elderly person, should be sentenced to the death penalty. The option of a plea bargain by our justice system for a crime such as murder to someone that can at no way protect themselves should be sentenced to the death penalty
