I was fortunate enough to see DJ Cheese at Rock City in Nottingham UK in 1986. He had just come to the UK to enter the DMC WMC. It was a Saturday afternoon. I had no idea who he was but he did this exact routine and blew everyone’s minds at the time. By today’s standards it seems pretty tame but back then it was like witchcraft. When he finished the routine we literally rushed the stage and mobbed him! It was crazy. He signed my ticket with a gold marker pen.

There’s no one from the 1987 DMC that even comes close to this, I’d argue that it wasn’t even topped until Cash Money in 1988.

An interesting but overlooked fact is that Cheese and Jazzy Jeff both won their World titles in 1986 (Jazzy was the World Supremacy Champ in '86). They were both ahead of their time and I would have loved to see them head to head back then.

I remember this..I taped the top four mixes of that year off the radio chad Jackson,,Hanson,,Orlando vorn and this DJ Cheese..that old TDK tape was my holy grail for years as in the early to mid 80’s it was hard to get stuff like this
