It was around $3k for school at C1 in 2013. I went from a janitor: home studio owner to a divorced driver that year. Left my mega carrier to a refer carrier. Million mile driver. Looking to leave in the next year.

Personally, I look at mega carriers like the military. If you don’t have any money, if you don’t have the connections or experience to get in this game or get ahead in life a mega carrier is the place to be point-blank. Once you get your experience and you put some time in the game and become a expert driver, then you could do whatever the hell you want or best suits your goals and lifestyle.

Some school have sponsorship programs with certain companies where you applied to the company and get your cdl through them . Just have to work said company for a year . Either way you paying got your cdl

Here in California, most cities have Federal funding called the WIOA program that will pay for you to obtain a class A CDL, Twic Card and Hazmat background assesment. That program paid 7k for me to obtain all of the above.

Tell him to go to the local workforce center and register. Once registered he is eligible for that program and if they have the funds available they will allow him to find a Trucking school that will work with that program.

I finally start school April 29th to get my class A. I paid for school out of my own pocket (I was lucky enough to be in the position for private school) so I’m looking at my options after school. And I’m still looking at mega carriers. I think all options should be on the table personally.

Otr trucking is trash. I got laid off from my job as a dock worker taking home $700 a week. Swift paying me the same thing with way more responsibility. No weekends, not home daily. Always in preplanning mode. That traveling stuff is way overrated. Cooking in truck sucks. More chance of dying on the road. Buncha farm land and a few mountains. Who cares. And all cities are the same. I’m going local at my 6 month mark. Thanks for the job but I’d rather be home daily with type of that pay. If you don’t have a passion for otr trucking , you’re gonna hate it. Again “traveling”. Who gives af

@@malcolmmccrory2200I take any load, must be slow but still the otr lifestyle sucks. Pre-planning when I’ll eat, shower, do laundry. Most the time grocery stores are too far away to order anything. My 24 hour fitness membership is pointless without a gym near by. It’s a manager type of stress, which is the reason I never went the management route at my old job. Just wanna do my 8-10 hours a day and forget about it til I clock in again.
