What a lovely compilation you've made! I still prefer the original bc I like being transported to the 60s style. Tomorrow is Yesterday, I guess!❤️️

Slightshot around the sun? “We’ve done it before.”

I love this story, but effects wise it never quite rose to the challenge of depicting what was required, so I thought this was a good example of an easy story to improve with all new effects. It does work much better, but it still doesn’t quite manage to visually represent the slingshot effect. Still, it’s probably as good as we’re ever going to get. A good, and fun, romp. Thank you!

The team at CBS did a great job on this one!

I realize it was probably due to budget restrictions, but I was always a bit surprised they did not try to put a more 'modern looking' chronometer on the bridge set of the Enterprise. Maybe something based on Nixie tubes, which did exist at that time. The _Moonbus_ from *2OO1: A SPACE ODYSSEY* add some Nixie tube readouts.

I appreciate the CGI version but the original effects represent the show I first saw and fell in love with.

I've thought for a while that the way the put Christopher and the guard back was sort of Quantum Leap trick.

After all of that, if I was Scotty, I'd suggest stopping off at the nearest starbase for a detailed structural and system inspection.

No, I am certainly NOT doing everything in my powers to avoid speaking about the last episode of Star Trek Discovery :-)

Loved the improvements with the CGI on this episode, made it 100% better, I always hated the original special effects of this particular episode.

The original hand drawn earth was a joke compared to the high def texture mapping in the CGI shots but satellite imaging was barely existent in the 60s so they had no photorealistic source.

These CGI shots are awesome but sometimes I think less would have been better. IE: taking a more minimalist approach and redo the original effects. It just seems weird going from state of the art exterior shots to 1960's interior shots.

The added cgi of the Enterprise traversing the Sun while passing beneath the mass coronal ejection was the highlight of the updated version of this episode. The rest is ok but, just filler IMO.

I confess I have mixed feelings of the new effects. On the one hand, many of the updates and new camera anges were very cool. On the other hand, I *hated* the updated version of the breakaway from the sun. It just didn't _feel_ right for some reason (I suspect it was too fast; _Star Trek_ didn't have a lot of fast ship movement). Also (and I only *just* thought of this), I think having contrails from the Enterprise and F-104 would have been cool. They're both moving rather fast after all (at least by our standards) and Enterprise is NOT the most aerodynamic spaceship that ever flew.

I still can't believe these horrible cheap CGI shots ended up in an official edition of the show. In the best case the replacements were unnecessary, in the worst case they looked like some guy with mediocre Blender skills got bored in his basement.
