Not the entire country. The entire world. Recently I got to know that US vias is also 10$ increased. Simply the answer is inflation. The supply chain problem and the result is inflation. But however the SL economic model is very simple and easy to solve, but politicians crappy never have the brains to solve it. if you find their profile many don't have a simple MBA, such people are handling economy. However, the world's inflation is a big problem. Need the genius to find solutions to it, let the experts do their job, but that's not what happening in SL.The plan to fight inflation in SL is " we don't have a plan".

Must admit I did wonder about the wisdom of spending so much money on a wall when you don't even have a functioning bathroom or kitchen in the house. Personally I would have left the wall until later and got the house fully functioning first, but that's just me. I've seen in the comments a few people offering to help out. Am assuming they are fairly local. Just focus on doing what you can for now. Clear and cultivate the gardens, plant produce to eat and sell, finish painting in the house and things that don't cost much. Enjoy working with the dogs and going to the beach and things that you enjoy. Worst case scenario. Lucie could go back to the UK for a few months to work to get some money together to complete some of the works. Let's hope it doesn't come to that, but remember Rome wasn't built in a day and you have the rest of your lives to complete the house/wall/gardens. Just prioritise what's most important first.

in the UK too many builders have had to stop work because cost of cement and steel have doubled part way through contracts. I have spoken to a few who say they are going to quote only for labour for all new contracts. That way the customer can source the cheapest materials or the most economical or the most expensive. Lusy lots of sri lankan students learn english from non native english speaks and also most of student need help in english subject.Specially university student are straggling with english.(Lot's of my friends are straggling to speak english) .You are a native english speaker ,so you can start teaching english . Being a native speaker doesn’t mean you can automatically be a good English teacher. It is a specialty and takes a lot of training to understand each student’s individual needs, and qualifications to gain an understanding of how to teach grammar properly. Lucy would have to qualify first just like everyone else who becomes an English teacher.

Your ability to stay positive against adversity is very inspiring. I wish I was financially stable to help you with whatever I could manage. Construction can be a challenge when a foreigner is involved Lucie, because most SriLankan construction companies and contractors are pathetically corrupt, they would try to fleece you out of your funds. I wonder if that’s what happened for all your funds to be over? Anyway, walls absorb much time, energy and money. Like someone’s said here, it’s worth focusing on the house, and it’s smooth functioning for now, and keep the wall for later. Saying that, your desire to protect your privacy is also understandable. Clearing some of your land, and using it for organic produce might keep your spirits up. I’m so sorry that your work had to stop indefinitely. Like you say, let these challenges be minor road blocks that will make you stronger and keep you closer to each other.

My question to you, does it have to be a cement based brick wall? is that a requirement? If it's not. I suggest looking into alternative ways to protect your home boundary. Here in the U.S. folks have fences, it is cost-affective, wood based ones are obviously eco-friendly. So how about a fence? A gated fence to protect & distinguish the boundary of your home from the road. 👍✅✌🏼🌸🐎❄️ Here are some alternatives to cement walls/ A list of Fencing Materials I found : - Wood - Metal -different types include : Aluminum, Wrought Iron & Chain Link Fencing - Composite - PVC - Vinyl - Masonry Style - Privacy Fence - Lattice Fence - There are tons more - according to your region - research different fence styles in Asia/ South-East Asia/ According to Your Region Here in the Midwest houses/ fences are built mostly with Wood & simple materials, safe, durable as long as you keep them maintained. We barely use cement & so it is certainly do-able. It'll save you both money & also keep your property in eco-friendly style! If folks are gonna raise prices to obnoxious levels over there due to supply chain issues. That simply means, it's time to re-evaluate your plan for the house, I think it's do-able if you are open to alternatives rather than cement. You both deserve a beautiful & protected home in Mother Lanka. Sure, things are a little rough right now but use your energy to create a better Sri Lanka, now is the right time.💯 ⬆️🌟Check your local resource materials, come up with a plan for an alternative wall. Our world is full of ideas, you just have to look around & speak to the right people who are open minded & are willing to help you both figure out what is best for your situation. Lucie and lahiru Every body habe financial issues in srilanka.so start to grow cinnamon anf coconut in the garden. Now a days 01kg cinnamon is 2900rs or more than that. If you fully grow cinnamon and fetlized the garden you can cut nearly 100 kg nearly for a 6to 8 month And also you can start english tution In thr village students.snd also you can grow pepper in the garden .what more.

I don't know if this is a stupid idea,but I really feel that u guys can earn a lot if u utilise the resources already available in ur Garden which is really huge.. for example,I saw there are several coconut trees,so u can harvest the coconuts and sell them to a buyer who offers a good price cuz now in colombo ,a coconut costs nearly 150/=. U can also sell the cinnamon. In addition,lahiru can look into doing more cultivation and produce organic fruits and vegetables which can be sold at a good price. I'm sorry if I sound stupid,but if I were there,I would use every bit of the land to earn while conserving the beautiful environment there.

This is the plan for the future, but instead of selling produce, we would only grow to eat it ourselves. However, at the moment, we don't have time to do that with our current jobs

Agree 100%. Lucy & Lahiru have to love trees and plants that produce fruits and edible greens as much ad they live animals. I was heart broken when they cut the jackfruit and the mango tree. They can now grow a cash crop like Moringa that needs no care and also buy from others snd package & sell dried leaves as tea on line.

you have a big garden. cultivate some banana, prepare, papaya in between cinnamon trees. easily in 3,5 month you could pick fruit with less effort
