We are in our late 60s, good medical facilities is essential. As we got lots if free time, we love travelling and our preference is easy access to airport. The final decision is Penang mainland.

As I get older, I am valuing peace and quiet more. Ipho is an attractive retirement location as it does not have as big a population of KL or Penang. Appreciate the vlog. Will you two be visiting east peninsula? Terrangeanu?

Hey john and Fran. Love your content. Been thinking about retiring in Malaysia. We have lived in Singapore for 12 years and have been living in Australia for the past 9 years. We are in our mid to late 30s. However we do wanna know whether Ipoh is a good place to retire if we have 2 small kids. Cuz international schools and the cost of living are both peiorities. What are your thoughts on Kuantan, Ipoh, Penang, Malacca, JB and KL with that in mind? We have a family budget of MYR 18K per month but wanna live comfortably. So we are trying to figure out which place offers the best value for miney without compromising on kids' education. May I also suggest that you make some videos about international schools in the different cities? That would be immensely uswful for families such as ours. Thank you!
@corporatebreakoutcouple
@corporatebreakoutcouple 4 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for watching our videos! You can definitely consider KL and Penang to send the kids to international schools. Top notch education and facilities. Ipoh may be a bit dull for the kids (it's more of a retirement place). Since you both are in your mid to late 30s, you'd find KL or Penang more suitable to your palate.

Ipoh? I love Malaysia. I've been there many times from San Francisco. But Ipoh doesn't have enough air conditioning.😂 My wife likes Ipoh because she is from HK and everyone in Ipoh speaks Cantonese. But she wants more A/C. Also, you need a car to get around outside the town center. I like Penang, and she likes KL. Mainly because we can get around the city with minimal exposure to the outside heat.

Fran is from Penang, so of course, we will always select Penang for ourselves. Ipoh for us is great for a short getaway trip. However that being said, there are many Singaporeans retiring early there as they enjoy the slower pace of life. Malaysia overall is a country where one needs a vehicle to go places. Public transportation is not the best, especially in rural areas or small towns

We aren't sure of the answer and our guess is that different people will give you different answers. It also depends on which immigration you will be coming in. JB via land, airports via air or train.

@corporatebreakoutcouple 9 ай бұрын
Taiping is lovely little town indeed. However we find Taiping too small and less equipped than Ipoh. We personally feel that Taiping is great for day trips or even a couple days stay. At the end of the day, it all boils down to personal choices & what one looks for during their retirement years, early or otherwise.

Then Ipoh isn't for you. Perhaps you'd find KL or Penang more suited to your lifestyle.
@jjsamuelgunn1136
@jjsamuelgunn1136 9 ай бұрын
yes, i agree. i've been there many times. it's not suited for young 'retirees' who still crave the big city life like shopping, cafes, restaurants, pubs, theatres etc. then again if you want to patronize those places you also have to factor their cost into your retirement budget, won't you. there are some decent nature spots around ipoh though if you are into that sort of stuff. but it's great as a retirement place for old folks. slow pace of life. not many high rises. much much less traffic compared to KL or Penang. that's the whole character isn't it. there is little traffic in ipoh because there isn't that many places to go to/visit. even so i still think ipoh has too many cafes for it's size. the population size can't support the business.
@corporatebreakoutcouple
@corporatebreakoutcouple 9 ай бұрын
@@jjsamuelgunn1136 from what we understand from the locals, most of these cafes are owned by the younger generation, whose parents own large businesses or come from old money. They are not worried about sustainability because rental costs are lower in Ipoh than KL, Penang or Johor. Some of the cafes are also unique, which does draw in the locals and tourists.

@@corporatebreakoutcouple i have to agree with you there. there are many of those tucked away here and there with their own little characteristics. quite a number of them are .. let's just say not very crowded. if they can sustain it with their parents money then by all means go ahead.
