Im about to do 2 different retaining walls one 27' long by 8' and second 10' high, saw your video and i have to say great job on it , it gives me confidence that i can do it as well with the help of engineering drawings. My question is , about the vertical 2x4's that are embedded into the footing, is that ok to leave them in the concrete to rot and eventually be a whole there?

@Oshinut28

Actually i just saw part where the wall is poured after the footing, so im guessing by the time you were done pouring footing you cane back and poured the wall so by that time concrete did firmed up a bit.

@@AllAccessConstruction Thanks for the reply, but I can't see a "tee" footing here. There is some un-structural spill out of concrete at the slope side. I guess you don't get the freeze/thaw we experience. It must be incredible sandy soil, lucky. Would like to see a follow-up in a couple of years, sincerely; I'm not saying that to be a d&%$, just curious. Stay safe.

Always find it very interesting to see how things are built in other places, building codes, etc... - Very nice work, particularly on the footing cages. For a job like this, we would normally compact sub-base and pour the footer first (with a keyway and rebar sticking up to go into second pour) and normally require deadmans every X feet of length (depending on height and soil reports). Always a dead man or back set anchor to stop the wall from breaking and flopping over in the event of frost heaves, landslide, or other seismic considerations. I can see the base soil is clay, and I'm assuming the frost heaves are not an issue in your area. Very cool content !!!! Nice work.

Wouldn’t the foundation foot have been better on the back side of the wall? In that way the weight of the backfilled soil would push down on it counteracting or at least minimising the lateral pressure on the wall outward? With hydraulic pressure and soil movement it seems that wall could still tip ? is it engineered (with plans )or just built with knowledge.?I’m not questioning the workmanship , just curious about the engineering aspect 🙂

Why is the footer on the downhill side? Isn't the pressure of the earth supposed to hold it down? Or was that not really an issue for this, or maybe it is just the weight of the wall itself and the footing makes a fulcrum point farther out that is difficult to push against? Any idea what the engineer was thinking?

160’ is long for a monolithic pour. Consider an expansion joint every 40’ or so. Thermal expansion and contraction will actually show this wall moving on the ends, although this may be acceptable for a landscape wall such as this.

Great job... use of wood planks instead of plywood for forms really adds a lot of character. Seeing knots and wood grain patterns helps keep massive wall more human scale. Concrete retaining walls need to last for ever. Cutting corners is never wise.

@talalzahid84
@talalzahid84 2 жыл бұрын
@@bernardrobinson837 one can make the footing on the top in the air as well. But the point here is to build optimum strength. Max strength can be achieved by making the footing towards the higher ground. because weight of the soil on the footing won't let the wall fall. It would be better if one makes counterfort retaining wall.
