Keep in mind, they were not aware Mystique was interfering until Logan picked up her scent at the very end, and they only failed to recruit Rogue because of Mystique implanting mistrust of them into her.

So a little context: Raven (Mystique) and Irene are married and have been together for years. Rogue is their sort of adopted daughter. 2000s cartoons didn't allow for an explicitly lesbian relationship in a show like this for, obvious reasons, but for all intents and purposes it's still written that way.
