Just a word on the FODMAP diet - it is not meant to be a permanent diet where you cut out all of those foods forever. It’s an elimination and reintroduction diet. As in you cut everything on the list out and then gradually reintroduce “higher” FODMAP foods to see which trigger your symptoms. Please don’t deprive yourself forevermore!

I’m sooo happy that someone is finally talking about this. I started having stomach pains, indigestion, bloating, diarrhea etc. and I had to cut a lot of food and supplements out of my diet. I’ve learned that protein powder is not only harsh on your stomach but bad for your kidneys 😮 I loved seeing how you changed your diet and just the reality to these kind of health situations.

Just an fyi shallots are definitely high fodmap as it has fructans. They say you can have the green parts of spring onions (green onions/scallions), chives, or the green leaves of leeks on low fodmap.❤ As a few other mentioned whey protein powder has dairy in it as whey is obtained from milk so it’s probably not great for lactose intolerance. 😅 Figuring out gut issues is such a journey. I still struggle sigh. 😢 wish you lots of success in resetting your tummy! ❤

Allana, I hate to break it to you but you're not doing the low FODMAP diet. 1) absolutely no garlic powder or onions (even pickled and no shallots), 2) you need to eat strict low FODMAP (no "treats") for 2-6 weeks or until your symptoms subside, then 3) you do a reintroduction phase with each food you've eliminated (for 3 days per food at increasing concentration, and have to wait until symptoms subside again to do the next reintroduction), and finally 4) you should be doing this under the guidance of a GI doctor. Unfortunately, you can't figure out what the issue is in just a week. I had to do months of the diet and reintroduction, and it was very hard, especially as a vegetarian.

Just cook the quinoa separately, cook the rest on a pan and finally mix it all together. It is so tasty, yet it gives you that great healthy feeling, plus it is not expensive! 👌🏻

As a nutritionist I’m so happy to see your focus on gut health! Ignoring can definitely lead to larger imbalances down the road. Just a note - you may want to get tested for SIBO. As with dairy for some people, sugar alcohols such as erythritol, xylitol and the other “ols” cause many people digestive distress and cause microflora imbalance. Pesticides can also contribute to microflora imbalance so taking steps there wherever possible can be helpful (and support the environment!). It’s possible that when you start effectively digesting legumes such as lentils again with proper preparation (soaking and pressure cooking helps here) you’ll know things are back on track gut-wise.

You can add the pesto/chimichurri in mayos, cottage cheese, lactose free sour cream to create a flavor bomb to add to a dish! It’s a great meal prep to add into the routine. I’m currently doing the AIP diet which is the TRUEST of gut resets. I’m doing it to figure out which food makes my endometriosis flare but it would equally work for someone trying to figure out what makes their IBS flare. I’ve tried the low FODMAP diet but still had a relatively unpredictable stomach afterwards. But the AIP diet is different because you fully strip your diet to the bare minimum for a month and slowly reintroduce “irritant” foods every 3 days after that first elimination month. That way you’ll KNOW which food it is that’s hurting your tummy. Definitely worth trying that!

I did the low FODMAP/SIBO diet for years and it didn’t help me. It can definitely help symptoms, but it’s not a long term solution and it doesn’t address the underlying cause. Digestive issues can be caused by stress whether you’re conscious of it or not. When your nervous system is dysregulated, your body puts digestion at a low priority. Doing nervous system work is something you may want to consider. Regardless of your gut, it’s good for your overall health! Once you improve your digestion, you can incorporate probiotic foods as a regular part of your diet.

One suggestion (which you probably already know): if you’re trying to figure out if a certain food or foods are affecting you, when you first remove them, don’t add in any new foods that you don’t normally eat. Adding (or substituting) a food you don’t normally eat could confuse your results. For instance, if you still don’t feel well, it could now be the new food(s) causing problems, meanwhile, removing the problem food may have helped, but now you’ll have no way of knowing that. Feel better! ❤️🙏🏻
