Honestly a much better contest than the Crusaders match. Good pitch conditions led to an entertaining game all around. It's great to see the Lions running with ball more often and letting their back line attack with ball in hand. Unfortunate loss for the Lions but it was still a great performance from them. Highlanders what a great comeback, was an incredible match to watch. I can't wait for the All black series to come!

Awesome highlanders, Difference between the crusaders and highlanders/blues game is innovation. High risk high reward rugby. Crusaders are the lions of NZ rugby will try and starve teams of the ball and happy to collect three points. C'mon the Maori/chiefs/ canes before the all blacks take their turn.

Also the conditions of the pitch made a huge difference, Crusaders match had so many errors due to the conditions of the pitch (very wet and slippery). And its good to see the Lions run with the ball and attack more instead of just kicking it alot. Much more entertaing match than the Crusaders match.

gregje11 It shouldn't matter if it was the Lions test side or not. It was still a team full of Northern Hemipshere test players vs a club team missing 8 of their normal players and their coach in a totally different country.

timbojoneso blues game was pretty wet, not mocking the crusaders they play good structured rugby but that only plays into the hands of the Lions. For the ABs to win there will be some luck and magic involved.

It's funny how by watching the Lions play in the past 4 matches, that they've been excellent in one and average in the next. Really can't tell how the series is gonna go. Their set-pieces are excellent.

Finn Russell for one, followed by anybody who can get round the field without a zimmer frame. The problem with picking your old mates is that 1) they're old and 2) they're mates and don't feel they have to try too hard (check out Stuart Barnes/Times on lack of commitment). Having said that, and in case you might think I'm being ageist, Laidlaw is past 30 and would have slotted that penalty. But then. he's a Jock and so not an old mate.

Great game - but at 1:05. Thats an obstruction. And if its not, change the rule because its not in the spirit. And 1:55 as well. If the defender is impeded, its a sheperd.

At 1:05 the player was already there, so it made little difference whether he stood left or not since Naholo was heading right, the defender wasn't going to get him (which is why after looking at it closely they decided it wasn't obstruction). You'd have to be off your rocker to believe 1:55 was remotely obstruction. The Lion just ran straight into him for no reason. Basically you're demanding the Highlanders players vanish into thin air.

Wow 9 front line players ,the highlanders coach Tony Brown missing from this game. Ben smith, Aaron Smith and 7 forwards on NZ Maori duties, a bit of a concern for the lions. I can see a repeat out come for the rest of there tour unfortunately, a shame! I was hoping they would at least push the all blacks a bit. But so far I haven't seen anything that will change this. You really need to put this into perspective. If the all blacks went to the uk on a 10 Match tour and lost 2 games to a super rugby equivalent over there ( just wouldn't happen) what makes this even worse is this is a team of 4 nations, worrying times for the lions. Hopping from a rugby mad fan (all blacks fan) the lions can at least compete in the tests.

I get your point but not always the case, the problem for the lions is how to harness 4 countries that are rivals into one cohesive team. Good teams always beat a group of individuals. Great result for the highlanders though, not trying to take that away from them

Kicking from the Lions was dreadful. It bemuses me as to why the Lions kick to the Super Rugby side's fullbacks and wingers. They're already paying for it with losses but it will cost them a test series against the All Blacks. On the plus side, Murray is the best nine in the world, Farrell normally isn't that bad (this is essentially a prep-match for the All Blacks) and the forwards are largely excellent ball carriers. Midfield passing, indiscipline and poor decision making are the worst things about the team
