Allegheny 100 Mile Challenge - North Country Trail

100 miles in 50 hours on the North Country Trail through the Allegheny National Forest in Pennsylvania. The A-100 is an annual event in Northwestern Pennsylvania that challenges the body and the mind. Keep an eye out for Bigfoot!

Nice attempt! I was fortunate enough to finish the 100 this year (44 hours). I probably passed you while you were sleeping near root run. You guys went out quick! I was probably right behind you in the beginning and when I started sweating a lot I just stopped and asked myself what the hell I was doing. It wasn't part of my plan to move that fast so I slowed down. I know you said you had blisters so for what its worth I wore thin Injinji Toe Socks and the Altra Olympus 4s. I was blister free for the entire event. Foot pain was unreal though - I don't think there is any way to prepare to be on your feet for that length of time. After a while I just stopped taking breaks because there was no point- it wouldn't stop the foot pain. That was also brutal that you guys didn't stay together. That last 22 miles I would've died to have someone to talk to and keep an eye on me as my sleep deprived ass hallucinated my way to the finish line. Hope you both try again and get it next year!

Congratulations on finishing! Thanks for the tips. I walked through a couple of creeks early. I should have changed socks right away... I think a slower pace with less planned sleep is the way to go. We will be trying again next year.

These videos are an immense help to A-100 participants! I was lucky enough to complete it last year (2021)…the hallucinating is crazy for the last 25 miles…for what it’s worth, I didn’t stop for sleep the entire hike…congrats on your mileage! You definitely have a great attitude for it!

Just curious, are you hiking in wet shoes with wet feet with all those creek crossings?

Feet got wet, but we stopped to change socks every couple of hours. I will change socks earlier when wet and bring a third pair of socks next time. Thanks for watching!

They have 4 different challenges. 25, 50, 75 and 100 milers. Typically 150+ participate. Maybe 30 in the 100 with half finishing. The volunteers are amazing. It is quite challenging... I hope to make it to 100 miles in 2023
