Try setting the playback speed lower.

It really is just a regular serge. You stitch the ends of the elastic together to form a loop and then stretch it to fit the waist as you serge the edge. ~K

The Allegro skirt is one of my favorite patterns, and I will be trying the pants next week! A bit concerned about the fit, so I will make a muslin first. Your waistband technique is very interesting.

I just made two allegro shorts. Love them. I, too, folded back the faux fly on the second pair. And it doesn’t have the ties because I accidentally sewed the waistband wrong and my buttonholes ended up inside the waistband. 🤦‍♀️. I was too tired to unpick it all. I lengthened them too. Next time I’ll try your waistband method and the tie trick. Skirts are next!

Is there a way to do this without a serger? I don't have one and doubt I'll ever get one.

Of course! A triple zig zag is a great way to attach elastic. And you can always overcast stitch the edges of your wovens to prevent fraying (or whatever your preferred method for wovens is!) ~J

There are recommended elastic lengths for the different sizes in the pattern. But we also recommend you put the elastic around your waist to find a comfy measurement. Some people like their elastic more snug than others. ~K

Thanks for the feedback! That's an older video and we've learned a lot since then! Hopefully the newer videos have a better balance of sound. If you still want to enjoy the video, you can always listen with volume muted/at zero and turn on subtitles or read along with the transcript. (This is my preferred way to watch most YT videos, personally!) ~J
