We have been using the SQ7 in our church for a few years now. With this series we are still learning new possibilities. Every time a little improvement. Thank you very much for this! Ontmoetingskerk Vathorst Amersfoort Holland

Any pointers on vocal compression for speech? Commenting for the algorithm.
@chrischoemortgageАй бұрын
I second this. Our pastor has a wide dynamic range so even with compression we have to ride the fader down when he gets energetic. Vice versa for our other pastor who's very quiet at times and have to ride the fader up. Wondering if we're missing any techniques or this is our normal. Thank you!

For grabbing jumpy single syllables, go for RMS mode at about 6ms (adjust to taste, as always), and a faster release, like 50 ms. If you're trying to get wide dynamic range adjustments, go the opposite direction, with a low ratio of 2:1 or 2.5:1, and a slow attack time like 50ms and a really slow release time like 800-1500ms. That'll make it act more like a slow fader movement when there's the LOUD sections and then the preacher brings it back down

The parallel compression on Vocals can also be awesome to make them feel closer

The vocal sounds FANTASTIC AT 14ms or 16ms didn’t see exactly what it was
@mitas3484Ай бұрын
I usually end up with 10-20 ms, 200-250ms release, 3:1 attack, threshold can vary but usually 6-10 db during peaks and 6db gain.

You're welcome! I'll definitely add the Avantis to the list!

Been messing around with compression more in our church. Do you usually just do vocal compression? Or do usually add compression on all instruments (keys, EG, drums, bass)? Why would you do it and why not? Thank you for sharing all your tips and tricks! I love all this and how you explain it so simple!
@AttawayAudioАй бұрын
I only NEED compression on vocals, and I almost-need compression on bass. Everything else can be left uncompressed, but compression on other instruments can shape tone and help keep things in-your-face if that's the sound you want. Check out my series on mixing different instruments for my go-to settings. Or check out the Live Mixing Field Guide for a couple starting places on different compression settings for each instrument.

Awesome video! Is this an original song that you’ve been using for the series?

Yes it's by Joshua Fernandez and Lauren Alexandria, among many others. It's unpublished, so that's why I can use it without getting copyright dings :)

It's called "We Lift Your Name Up" by a bunch of people, including Joshua Fernandez and Lauren Alexandria, but it's unpublished... which is how I can get permission to use it in my videos without copyright infringements :)
