Allen & Heath's entry level analog mixing consoles, the ZED series are well-built, good-sounding and excellent value for money. Available in frame sizes and feature sets to suit any application, I have recommended them to many a satisfied customer. In this series of videos we take a look at the ZED60-14FX, a 14-channel, 60mm fader mixer with USB audio connectivity.

This is the most comprehensive explanation of this brilliant board. It is by far the best filmed and professionally produced video I have ever seen on KZbin - and that includes many corporate videos! Don't bother with the videos that explain how to unpack a cardboard box - this is the one to watch!

Thank you my good man. Your video's have helped me understand mixers a whole lot better, thanks to the time you take to delve into the subject at hand.. namely the Yamaha MG124C.. with the one-knob compression feature and how to understand what it's doing and how it's impacting what you're listening to.. So looking forward to putting it into practice. Stay blessed man. Peace n love.

1 second ago GREAT little mixer with just one snag - the channel aux (monitor send) output stays on when you mute the channel. I had to open up the mixer and move a few wires around on the channel PCB's to mute the aux out when the channel mute buttons are pressed. I probably voided the warranty when i did this. USB recording out works GREAT, though there are a lot of USB mixers out there these days.

@GLBProductions
@GLBProductions 6 жыл бұрын
Smaller churches are often served perfectly well by an analog mixer - they are much easier to train people on (especially those who are visual learners) and those who learn on analog can easily switch to digital later on. Those who learn on digital often have difficulty visualising signal flow and hence need help when switching to analog.

Hi love your videos, I hope you can advise, I have the Allen and heath Zed12fx and also I have my backing tracks on a ipad gen 9, at the moment my connecting is trs 3.5mm from ipad to 2 TS jack plugs, My question is can I use 3.5mm to Single XLR to desk and will it give much better sound on on backing tracks, and also free up a channel, Im looking to get best sound from my ipad, I even plugged my 2 TS into a stereo channel and I felt I was not greeting louder volume, thanks for your time Bruno
@GLBProductions
@GLBProductions Жыл бұрын
Hi there Martin! No please do NOT use a 3.5mm to XLR male adapter - you will lose information when you hard-wire the two stereo channels together like that. If you want to save a channel then use a signal combiner such as a stereo to mono DI box - there are several of those available on the market such as the Radial ProAV1 or Whirlwind PCDI.

Woe! This was great!!! But where's part two? Really would like an explanation on the existing routing possibilities - have a Zed10fx and was curious on how to feed the mixer with external effects (instead of the ones built into the mixer). Needless to say, the manual leaves much to be desired. On the other hand, your explanation was crystal clear!

Hi! As mentioned in another video of yours, thank you so much for the quality and detail. How would you compare this with the Yamaha MG10XUF and the Mackie ProFX10V3? Those other two have compresor and the mackie has insert per channel. Regards!
@GLBProductions
@GLBProductions 3 жыл бұрын
These are all in the same class of mixer, but they differ in detail, as you have noted. Look very carefully at the features offered by each manufacturer and decide which one suits your needs best. If possible try and examine the mixer physically in person to see which one you prefer. One significant disadvantage of the A&H is that it has no 1/4" main outputs, only XLR - this can be a significant problem for some users!

Weird that when you pan the vocal hard left and right, I can still hear a low muffle on each side that should be 100% out. Did you add a post recording reverb or something similar?
@GLBProductions
@GLBProductions 6 жыл бұрын
You shouldn't be hearing that - on the file that I uploaded when the signal is panned to the left the right side is totally silent and vice versa. Sometimes these things are artefacts caused by KZbin processing or computer soundcards.

I'm buying a mixer in a few months and I have been looking at the Zed-10FX, which is quite similar to what you are explaining. I've been also looking at a Soundcraft Signature 10. Do you know how the 2 compare in build quality?
@GLBProductions
@GLBProductions 6 жыл бұрын
That's a good question - soundcraft build quality has always been good and in my experience their analog mixers last a very long time even when used hard. However the signature series is relatively new (introduced in 2015) so long term reliability is yet to be determined. I would say that you would need to look at price, feature set and very importantly service and support in your area before making a decision.
@jeromemckenna7102
@jeromemckenna7102 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. You've given me a lot of useful information. The prices for both the Zed-10FX and the Signature 10 are similar and their features are similar enough for my purpose. Your information on the difference in construction between the Allen and Heath and the Yamaha MG series is what has pushed me in that direction. I am replacing an old Yamaha unit (the Em1400 a powered mixer), so Yamaha was the place I started.

Thanks for watching Robert! This mixer has L&R main mix inserts which allow outboard processors to be applied to the entire mix. However this is not possible on the individual channels as there are no channel insert points.

Hi. I have just bought a Boss VE 1 vocal effects pedal, was hoping you could tell me the best way of connecting it to the A&H Zed 60 10FX, and what leads I will need. I've tried going into the pedal with my mic, and into mic channel 1 on the mixer, but not sure if it's ideal to be doing it that way. I bought the pedal because I couldn't really find the kind of effect I needed from the mixer effects. I'm just looking for a nice ballad setting, for old 50s and 60s type songs. Thanks in advance, Love your channel.
@GLBProductions

Hi Pete this pedal appears to be designed to have the microphone connected directly to it, and then have the output of the pedal connected to the mixer, so I would set it up that way.

Im not very good at all these technical issues but I got a problem. In my church I need to work with that mixer. The church is huge so the echos are a problem. What should I do to minimalize the echo effects on this mixer?
@GLBProductions
@GLBProductions 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Damian - if the echoes are caused by the physical size of your church there is nothing you can do about that on the mixer 😉 Highly reverberant spaces like that need to be addressed by a combination of good system design, speaker choice and placement as well as managing people's expectations.

Hi, thank you for the video. I have a zed 10. I have look everywhere but can‘t understand the recording out RCA. I figured out how to send my analog signal into my daw, routing thru the mains and the fx and aux out. This is not the clean sognal For the clean signal I can do it thru the inserts, first stage of the plug. Is this rca copy of the mains or I can use it as an extra „aux out?“ For example channel 1 and 2 thru the mains, hard pan left and right... for the channel 3 and 4, I‘d use the fx out and the aux out, with the faders out. 3, I‘d use fx out with closed aux and faders, for the 4, I‘d use aux out with the faders and fx closed. This way I can rout 4 channels at once into my audio interface. I was wondering if I can rout the stereo channels thru the rca output without having an interference from the mains One last question is you use this „y“ cables. U also mentioned doing this and address it to a di box or splitter. Could you please clarify what and how I can use it? Thank you so much for the video! Much much appreciated
@GLBProductions
@GLBProductions 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ed, the record out is a separate post-fader bus that is fed by the same switches that control the USB out. So it is affected by both fader and pan control positions. It is not a copy of the main mix unless the selector switches are set to 'main mix' ie both switches OUT. If you need more detail than this I strongly suggest that you write directly to A&H and describe your specific set up and what you are trying to achieve. I don't understand your question about Y-cables - could you please be more specific.

Hi Bruno! I'm from Argentina and your videos are awesome, really clear so I would like to ask you to explain how the dbx driverack pa2 works. I'm starting in the business and I'll buy 2 mains R112, 2 subs R118, 2 amplifiers and a mixer mg166c, all yamaha. I read about dbx pa2 and it has really good critics so I'll buy it for crossover, eq, anti feedback. The thing is I don't know how to use it in a proper way. The driverack has a speaker list where you can select your speakers and your amplifiers to save time in the configuration, if my speakers don't show I'll have to select 'not listed' and the dbx would take a 'default setup' or something like that. In summary, a good tutorial about this driverack would be really really helpful in order to configure perfectly the PA. Dbx pa2 has lots of features and there is no video in KZbin that is worth it.
@GLBProductions
@GLBProductions 6 жыл бұрын
Hello Sil nice to hear from you. May I suggest that before you buy the driverack PA2, you ask the store you are intending to buy from if they can provide training for the product? If you are getting into this professionally you need face to face training on the processor from somebody who can answer questions and help you set it up for your specific system. Even if the store cannot provide training, they should be able to make arrangements with your country distributor for it to be conducted.

A graphic EQ is a big tone control device, used to adjust the sound of your PA system. An active crossover is a dividing network used to split the fullrange signal coming from your mixer into different bands (low, mid, high) to be send to different types of speakers. They have two different functions, and you often use them at the same time.

Using the insert cable that I show in the video, connect the output of the insert point (tip) to the input of the first pedal and the return of the insert point (ring) to the output of the last pedal. Note that this will only affect one side of the stereo signal (left or right, depending on which insert point you use).

I asked Allen and Heath support about the pre-mute aux out and they came back quickly saying that there is a jumper mod that a service centre can perform to make the aux post-mute aux. It's shown on the schematic in the manual. If it weren't for that, this would be a great mixer. Meanwhile I have to work with what I have... mics will all need mutes and gooseneck mics can't be on foldbacks I guess... wait til the 1 year warranty runs out and bust it open!
@GLBProductions

Interesting information! Pre- and post-mute aux sends have different uses: pre-mute is the standard for recording, where the artists need to be able to hear themselves even if what they are playing is not being sent to the recorder. It's also the standard for in-ear-monitors. All the best with your setup!

So, at the 9:00 minute mark, you talk about the 100Hz HPF but using your voice as an example probably didn't do it justice. What I have found is that it removes the rumble from an exhale very nicely since that portion of sound is down in the double-digit Hz range. After watching your video to understand my ZEDi 10fx, I tried a few different scenarios and said breath rumble, fluorescent hum, a dryer, all were impacted by the switch. You just have to be conscious of what you could remove, especially in a studio.

@@GLBProductions Thank you because you mentioned a that. If i understood as well, all XLR cables will be unbalanced connected with 3.5mm or RCA... Cold and ground wire of the XLR connector is used as one wire to the 3.5mm connector... Same happens with www.amazon.com/TISINO-Female-Stereo-Connection-Interconnect/dp/B07C7V8PT6 So, no separated cold wire and ground. In this cases a cold wire(which uses to improve quality of signal) is not used at proper a way. @GLBProductions
@GLBProductions 4 жыл бұрын
Good questions. The XLR to single 1/8" TRS cable is not the same as the 2xXLR to 1/8" TRS - one is intended to go from balanced stereo to unbalanced stereo, the other one is trying to go from balanced mono to unbalanced dual mono, which may cause problems. This is why I am very suspicious of any hardwired adapter that tries to connect 1/8" to XLR - there are so many ways to get the connection wrong. The adapter may work in some cases but not in others. Much better to use a proper balanced to unbalanced converter such as the Radial Pro Iso: www.radialeng.com/product/pro-iso More information on how all these connectors should be wired: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5-4Y2qEaKifqdk More information on balanced vs. unbalanced connections: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aISleIZ6gMx-ftE
