Hi Allen just wanted to say i've been watching your videos recently and have been really enjoying them! I'm not a boiler/heating engineer, just an average person, but your videos are fantastic and have definitely given me a greater appreciation for the work you engineers do! It's also incredibly useful for us non engineers to see what we should be looking for and expecting from a good install. Im often overwhelmed when it comes to having work done that involves hiring tradesman. There are lots of different opinions, things to consider and many things I don't even know that I don't know. Its nice to have your to-the-point, honest advice on best practice. I for one have learned a lot from your videos! Keep up the great work!

Great video Alan but the big issue is getting the customer to understand the benefit of getting the boiler installed correctly and to the manufacturers installation instructions. It always comes down to price and some incompetent dick head will undercut the true cost of doing it correctly 😡 I always say I will not get into a race to the bottom. @@AllenHart999 Isn't writing a quote a part being in business and the customer who worked for their money -having a right and respect from a business owner to let potential customer know what they will be paying for? It's a part of you doing business and you wanting people to spend their money with you. I don't get this idea that you don't think people have a right to know exactly what they are paying for - if they contract with someone to do work for them.

Good guide for the less experienced guys. One thing you missed on your fictitious quote on the Idea was the mini exp-vessel on the mains, its in the manual and I hear Ideal won't entertain warrantee claims without one. Vailiant is my go to Combi or Ideal if the job is price sensitive........

Hi Allen just wondering if there were limitations to where a boiler can be installed? We have a small loft but would like to pop the boiler up there as it takes up a lot of room in the kitchen and one of the guy we spoke with to get a quote mentioned that the boiler won't fit in the loft as it needs a 600mm clearance underneath it? I cant seem to find any supporting information to this effect? But then I'm not a professional and and wondered if you could advise? Thank you
@AllenHart9993 жыл бұрын
You would need to check the installation instructions for the boiler you require but i am not aware of any boiler that needs 600mm clearance underneath, Normally 100mm or so. Although personally i try to avoid installing boilers in lofts. Thanks.

Whats your opinion on increasing the pipe size at the end and not the start, i.e 22mm off the metre and the last few metres in 28mm?

That's a great question. It would depend on the situation and if it has any tees, I have updated the pipework near the boiler on systems with no tees and it has worked perfectly well. Thanks.

Let's not beat around the bush here. I want a new boiler installed & I'm being quoted around £3,000 for a Worcester Bosch 35K. I'm a hands on kind of guy so I plan to do all the heavy lifting by draining the system, removing the header and expansion tanks and installing the vertical flue and doing the brickwork. I've bought everything needed for the job down to ever valve and elbow. The job itself is very easy clean work. I don't require a powerflush as I'm using a MagnaCleanse and doing the cleanse myself. Despite everything can I get a plumber on a day rate? Can I fook! It's because a plumber can earn stupid money on a supplied install! What's considered a reasonable hourly rate for the South West? Installing a boiler isn't rocket science. A lot of plumbers just tend to take the p*ss by preying on people's ignorance and scaremongering about the dangers of gas. I've repaired my boiler and central heating system three times over the years. This nonsense of charging the earth for an honest day's work needs to stop.
@AllenHart9994 жыл бұрын
Ian Holl My price is not just for a days wage, The days wage is included but I also have running costs and my business needs to make a profit after all my outgoings. If I do not make a profit my business will close down. Customers have lots of choices these days and it’s a very competitive market, lots of the good companies will struggle to stay in business. Thanks for the feedback
@ianholl29954 жыл бұрын
@@AllenHart999 This isn't a personal attack on you Allen it's the trade in general. I cannot get a gas ticketed plumber on a day rate for a supplied install. What does that tell you? Hard times are coming for a lot of people in this country so for any plumber to prey on the vulnerable so they can have heat & hot water will be abhorrent. It will drive people to use cowboys who aren't gas ticketed to save money which won't be a good thing. Doing the math the quotes I've been getting it seems plumbers want to earn £500-£750 a day. If that's not taking the p*ss I don't know what is. I run a business so I'm aware of what overheads & what tax incentives there are.
@AllenHart9994 жыл бұрын
@@ianholl2995 Hi Ian. I wouldn’t work on a day rate either. I have a business to run. £500-£700 a day isn’t a wage, You may run a business but not a gas one, Just remember we can go sub to Boxt or other boiler companies for £400 per day. Again this isn’t a wage either and we do not work or charge for every day. Thanks.
@ianholl29954 жыл бұрын
@James Yes, replacing a PCB board, cleaning out the heat exchanger or replacing the extractor fan is going to make the house exploid. Honestly, you plumbers believe that having a 'gas safe' ticket is a licence to print money! Replacing a boiler is child's play and how plumber charge extortionate amounts to do it is criminal. .

Another Great video Allen, relly important to design/spec / install and commission the boiler and system to make sure it works and is condensing as much as possible ( getting that return temp down when it reaches the boiler,) One area that gets left is the TRV, and they could be going on 20 years old, lots of options now to help regulate the temp in each room and advise options to satisfy customer, Regarding the condensate, BS6798 (2014 ) have stated that class o is not suitable unless protected for UV however there has not been any products that help cover all the regulation/help install to fit in all weather and look quality and why we worked for three years on a total solution with Condensate pro I hope you don't mind me adding a link to a video on bs6798 and MIs to help simplify kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmnKpJSpmct4nNU
