Allen, boilers are what element of the fire triangle please?

i have a cannon gasmizer circa 1970 which continues to throw out loads of heat from the glowing 3 ceramic radiants... but, the middle radiant hardly golws at all...seems such a pity!

Regarding the damaged boiler you inherited, I totally agree. I find it always best to supply all of the gear as I prefer the buck to stop with myself and there is never any hard feeling should something be missing or damaged, and the customer doesn’t have to pay for lost time etc.

A typical example of why fires can be an absolute nightmare. Always issues. I wouldn’t service one unless they had a set of MIs at hand.

I do not get asked to do many of these now. Thanks.

Hi Allen. I've just moved in to a end house that has no chimney but it has a gas fire installed on the gable end ,the exhaust just goes through the wall out the other side . Is there a special name for these fires as I'm trying to find a replacement. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
@anonanon58504 жыл бұрын
You're an old retired couple, conscientious enough to get your gas fire serviced every year. Your regular plumber retires so you get hold of a new one. He comes and tells you your gas fire - 20 years old and passed safety checks every year - is now condemned. Unfortunately most people would just ring around to find someone willing to pass it as OK.
@anonanon58504 жыл бұрын
@they're taking the peace You can kind of understand though. If you trust a tradesman for a long time then get a new one who basically refutes everything your old one says then you may think the new one is trying to rip you off. If you don't know better, or get second/third opinions, it may well seem that way when in fact the old plumber was just passing something unsafe. Glad I'm not a tradesman. The ratio of getting business vs doing things properly alarms me.

Looks like an old Ideal flue. Was thinking Worcester Mk1 CDI at first.

I think its an ideal
@Clicksystems4 жыл бұрын
I’ve seen some right dodgy installs by gas safe registered plumbers. Was their own home and the flue where they was too lazy to cut it down, was sticking out past the wall about 12” and the rubber collar was missing from the outside, not sealed either so it was all loose.

can a carbon monoxide detector detect a faulty boiler with a dodgy burner seal?
@recklessJet4 жыл бұрын
No because your boiler case is sealed and carbon monoxide is escaping from heat exchanger burner seal and re used as air to burn. As you can see the gas flue analyser probe is right at the corner of the seal to detect it. BTW Worcester boilers normally have this burner seal problem, its like a weak point from manufacturers 🤷🏽♂️

my sister's fireplace doesn't have a fire in it, instead, there's just a large sheet of wood covering up the hole (and my parent's fireplace is bricked up as far as i know)

@@KZbinHero666 i dont see/do alot of gas fires but no way a open pot with no terminal guard can be right
@YoutubeHero6664 жыл бұрын
@@MyMonkey1973 Check your books or buy the viper books. It's absolutely fine mate you can always recommend a gas terminal guard for the chimney pot. Helps stop birds etc but it's not a requirement at all.

With regard to gas fire flues,In my experience some almost blocked chimneys whether it be a bird nest ,soot and debre WILL pass a smoke test. But fail a spillage test which must be carried out .Had a fire once into a metal box with a 4"" metal flue. This fire had been in for years ,luckily not used very often .Smoke test great,did not want to know about the spillage test .So by this time fire too hot to remove so arranged to go back next day , Cause was a tin of wood filler in the bend of the flue , must have been there since the installation many years previously, The moral of the story is never ignore a failed spillage test no matter how good the smoke goes up the chimney .On a different point I could never understand why the relief opening was situated right at the bottom ,first fall of soot blocks it .
@kevind71504 жыл бұрын
The air relief hole, is at the bottom, To aid the flue pull on that specific type of Gas Fire. It is higher up on fires fitted with Oxy-pilots. Probably one of the reasons why those types, are now obsolete.
@johnboy12324 жыл бұрын
@@kevind7150 Hi Kevin my observation over 40 years in the industry thankfully now finished was that the first fall of debris blocked the hole anyway . So making it useless a lot of the time .

O maybe there is another reason? More money? You get extra 10% from sale boiler. Customer can obtain this same boiler for example £1000 but you selling for £1100. Thats my opinion.
