Just to clarify, Drusilla was almost killed by a mob in Prague, right before they came to Sunnydale (Spike mentioned it in "School Hard") and she's been weakened every since. That's why they came to Sunnydale, because they expect the Hellmouth to help her heal. She's not going to be cured of being insane, it's a part of who she is.

The ice skating rink scene was because Sarah Michelle Geller is an accomplished ice skater. The scene didn't really show it, though. I think it was because it would have slowed the story, which was slow enough as it is. Fun fact: Bianca Lawson, who played Kendra, has played a teenager in at least 3 different decades.

While season 1 was mostly monster of the week episodes with just a few ‘plot driven’ episodes, this season is all about the plot, expanding the universe, and especially characters development. It’s where Buffy transformed from an excellent series into a masterpiece

Drusilla was caught in a fire in Prague, and it's a physical thing, not a crazy thing. The crazy thing is 100% on Angel. It's a throw away line when she's first introduced, but that's what they're trying to cure her from.

I know two other people have mentioned it as well, but Sarah Michelle Gellar was a professional ice dancer, when she was a teenager. She wanted to do the ice skating scene because due to her contract, they rarely let her perform any stunts, due to safety concerns (they do let her do some later in the series, to some extent). Still, you didn’t get to see her do anything too spectacular... I’m fairly sure she could technically do jumps, flips, and whatnot. Because she’s the lead actress, they still didn’t want her to do something where she could accidentally hurt herself. But at least it was actually her ice skating.

Sunnydale isn't the only place with vampires/demons/etc, but the hellmouth draws them there so it has a high concentration. Buffy wasn't originally from Sunnydale but (presumably) the Watchers' Council arranged for her to get a school place there after she was expelled from her previous school.

The most helpful thing I've seen in Buffyverse theorization is the recommendation to think of Xander as having two sides - the character the writers intended to write, and the stuff that crept in there unconsciously, without the writers' explicit intention. Every character has some parts that get mixed in unconsciously by the writers, but Xander happens to have an unusual amount of weirdness/grossness/problematic behaviors that are not acknowledged by the text and are clearly not intended to come off the way they now come off. These can made it really hard to like him, especially in the early seasons. Basically, it helps me to notice which of Xander's character flaws are acknowledged by the text, and which the writers seem to be entirely unaware of. Makes it easier to appreciate the character they meant to write more. Maybe that's just me, idk.

Mid season finales weren't a thing in the 90s. They only started splitting seasons in the last 10 years or so after the writer's strike slowed down show productions one time. They soon realised splitting seasons built up show hype so kept it.

What's going on? It's not that there are no more weaker or just MotW episodes, but we're now past the point where Buffy generally improves after S1/early S2 (starting S2E06 in my book).

Yeah Spike's thing is to kill Slayers, think about it this way, Vampires are on top of the food chain, they kill humans and feed of them, so What's the thing vampires are afraid of? What's stronger than them? The Slayer is, which means to kill a Slayer is just about the biggest accomplishment a Vampire can aspire to, and Spike has killed two already and made a name for himself that way, because Slayers are really hard for a Vampire to kill, you have to be very strong to win a fitgh against one, let alone two. Spike wants to kill Buffy because she is the current Slayer, it's like an extrme sport for him but he is also in Sunnydale because he believes the proximity to a hellmouth can help Drusilla feel better while he looks for a cure for her, notice how Giles believed she had been killed by a mob in Prague some years ago and then later Spike mentioned she almost died there, so a mob got her somehow in Prague and now she is weaker to the point of needing him to take care of her and Spike is trying to find some way to make her strong again, it won't cure her crazy, she's been crazy for longer than she's been a vampire, Angel mentioned in Halloween that he drove her crazy before he turned her, back when he didn't had a soul. Hope that clarifies things ☺️
