I would be willing to try everything except the oil. I find that applying oils to my scalp adds to the problem since it partly comes from a build up of sebum. Hydration, avoiding sugar, and scalp scrubs have really helped.

A lot of people I know have started to suffer from this condition, you are right it could be the food. We have hard water where I live in the U.K, which is a contributing factor to this scalp condition. I shaved my hair and used bottled water, which improved the itchiness straight away. I can now treat it and watch it re-grow. I was wearing wigs a lot and it could be the conditions in which the wigs are made/prepared in, add our head sweat to that. So ladies think of wigs and start wearing our natural hair. Be proud of it before it's gone!

@ninacardoza20055 жыл бұрын
I got diagnosed with it last year. I was severely itching like nonstop all day so 1day I said screw this&went to a dermatologist. She told me to stop using coconut oil and tea tree oil bc it's making it worse and still to this day I've stopped and it hasn't cured it(its not curable) but it's gotten so much better..I had to start by washing 3times a week with this steroid shampoo but my insurance stop paying for it so I had to buy different shampoos like head&shoulders (didnt work) then this blue bottle nizoral I think it's called. I thought(&still think lol) I had dry scalp/hair so growing up and adult hood I would oil my scalp with coconut oil. But research shows that it's not dry our scalps are over producing oils and fungus so oils are making it worse. Only weird thing is now I'm shampooing 1x a week and if I go over and scratch my scalp then go to scratch my skin, I break out in hives and cant stop scratching that area until I take a shower or scrub with alcohol 😫😔
@adriennebonner12064 жыл бұрын
Nina Cardoza I went to pharmacy school in 2004 and remember my teacher told me I have SD. I remember a pharmacist prescribing the Fluocinolone acetonide shampoo and that I had to wash my hair everyday! I was like there is no way I could do that! I still don't understand how I could have SD when I also have eczema and a couple of years ago my dermatologist told that SD and eczema are like cousins. I have basically come to the conclusion that blk ppl hair/scalp want two different things. Our hair may be dry due to the curls and coils but our scalps are over producing oils. Which is why all oils seem to irritate it more. (And I've tried everything from vitamin E to olive oil and coconut oil). I have figured out a way to maintain my eczema. My SD however, is seasonal, meaning, I have breakouts when the seasons change. And when that happens, I do have to wash my hair more. I try to do once a week. It's a lot of work because I have long, thick, dense, low porosity, and probably 4b/4c type hair.

@@adriennebonner1206 I think my shampoo was clobetasol something like that. It was sooooo drying! It's a little better now tho. I can go 1 week sometimes 2 when in the beginning I couldnt go 3days without looking like I have lice
@adriennebonner12064 жыл бұрын
Nina Cardoza I may have misspoke about the Fluocinolone Acetonide is a topical solution that has a medicine dropper application. That's what I use now. It says to apply twice a day as needed and when I have my seasonal breakouts or flare ups it seems to work. It's almost like alcohol but not as wet. It is wet enough to kink up the roots upon application. The clobetasol sounds familiar too. I may have been given that and Ketoconazole, which is the same thing as Nizoral over the counter shampoo. Yes, I agree those shampoos are extremely drying. After watching this video, I watched another video and someone commented on SD. She said the overproduction of oil dries up as flakes, which has an appearance of dry skin like other skin issues (i.e. eczema). Her comment helped me to understand SD more. So basically your scalp doesn’t know how to properly regulate the oil production, it’s either too dry or too oily. And as you know, many things can trigger SD (diet, water intake, seasons, humidity, heredity, stress, etc). I wish you the best of blessings on your healthy skin/scalp journey!
@ninacardoza20054 жыл бұрын

I have SD as well. I'm 46, and I had this as a baby (cradle cap). The only thing that works for me is medicated shampoo if I have a bout of it (Nizoral 2%). You need to visit the dermatologist for that, and I would recommend this on top of everything else. Natural products *never* worked for me. If you have this, I recommend going to a doctor asap. Don't keep struggling with this, because it can cause you to lose more hair!!! Having SD means you don't have dry scalp, it means you have oily scalp with fungal overgrowth, any extra oil you add will feed the fungus and will make it worse! If you are talking about SD, that means you need to have had a doctor check it and you have an official diagnosis. Didn't they give you a medicated shampoo, then? :)
