Someone needs to tell Jaeremy that his rent will go up faster than his wages and in 5 years time he could have been paying 25% less mortgage than rent. If you're in a position to buy you must always grab that chance. Circumstances can change fast and prices can shoot up. Never ever waste your chance.

I honestly think he was better off renting because I feel like being picky wasn't his problem. He didn't really know what he wanted. Even if the second house was in a better location, he would find another reason not to buy it. He just wasn't ready mentally and emotionally.

Agreed with original poster. Jeremy acts like this is his forever home instead of a starter bachelor pad. If this was in 2011ish, when prices were at the end of falling after the worldwide mortgage collapse and housing crisis, he could have owned any property shown and in 5 years doubled (at least) his money. No one can say prices in 2016 weren't higher than 2011. And prices in 2023 are higher still. I'd love to see what those homes are valued at now. For him it's not about finding a family home in the best school zone, but a starter investment. Too late now😂

People have different tolerances for noise. My husband’s family home was next to a power station that hummed very loudly, and they no longer noticed. I used to hear the interstate that is about 5 miles away, but haven’t for years. But a friend moved off the lake because she couldn’t stand the sound of ducks quacking! That house near the train was beautiful.

I've been living in my house for 2 1/2 years and the noisy trains traveling close by my house still bother me--especially at night. When we were looking at the house we were told that only one or two trains went by during a 24 hour period, but it's much more frequently. (The two times we looked at the house no trains went by so we had no idea how noisy they were.) I'll never again buy a home that's close to train tracks, with a sloping yard or near a noisy interstate freeway--three unpleasant problems I have with my current house. (The freeway is over 5 miles away but I can still hear the constant hum of cars on the pavement and air brakes on semitrucks).

You can say one thing for sure for British homes.. they do love their big flower wallpaper. So far, after watching numerous of these programs, pretty much every single home has one or two walls of big flowers. I wonder why. (other than they like them). lol

At 44:45 it shows that the video was filmed June 2011, so 11 years ago probably it was fashionable to have that kind of wall paper. Most of these videos if not all, are old actually.

This must be very old…worrying that $100k is too much lol. I guess those houses must have tripled by now? Or nearly? I made the mistake of not buying a condo 6-7 yrs ago after my divorce and now my chance is gone. The prices doubled since then in my city. I hope he is luckier. The young couple made a good choice and a great deal…best of luck to them.

Yeah, well this was in 2011, so it was a few years after the recession, so people were cautious at the time. Nottingham is still relatively affordable. The prices went up for sure but definitely not triple, lol.

When people say their budget is 205,000£, are they factoring in the stamp tax? Moving costs and so on?

@@keys6 It confuses me because they usually say someone's budget is X hundred thousand pounds, and then they buy a house that has that price. So if someone says "Our budget is 205,000 pounds" it really means they have that *plus* an amount they are not mentioning that will pay moving costs and stamp tax?
@keys6
@keys6 Жыл бұрын
@Figaro Hey! there's two different ways to look at it - some will say a figure that includes the house...the stamp duty.. deposit...solicitors...survey...moving costs etc as a sum of money they will need..plus an emergency fund.. others will separate the two...and describe the budget as the price of the house they can afford with their deposit... a 200k house with a 10%deposit... for example... so they will have a top house budget of 200k... they will have all other costs separate...

It's an age thing. My dad retired and in 1986, gave my brother and I, £5,000 each. I bought a shoe box apartment in the right area, I got the feeling 😂 and my brother, bought a car! On my third house I was mortgage free. And then I got married and the disaster began, but 28 years later and on my own, I'm mortgage free. 💃

The young couple is weird .why are the English so intent on doing stuff themselves , and knocking down walls ,and making everything a project and getting value! That last house was way cheaper and pretty much okay inside with a gorgeous garden. all they had to do was rip up the carpets, change the color of the walls, add their own furniture , and,maybe, knock out a wall or two . it'll be perfect. I just don't get them.

It doesn't matter where you're from. In every country, there are going to be some people who want a fixer upper and some people who want move-in-ready. It's just a personal preference. Me personally, I prefer people who want fixer uppers because I'm just not a big fan of people who want to walk into a house and do absolutely nothing to it. Even if a house is move-in-ready, you still need to maintain and repair it over time. When you move out, it's not going to be in the same condition as it was when you move in.
