I somewhat agree although don't forget they are probably locals and have most probably stood and heard a good few times when she first started busking there. Also, most people are commuting back and forth with work and whatever else they need to do, I'm sure most, if they had a few minutes would stand and listen:)

Their version (the OG) was a good song in general but most covers have easily beat it. The original was too fast and needed it to be less rock-y.

I remember this being released as a teenager of the north east of England. Liverpool had the Beatles we had the Animals. Absolutely insane that I find this superb rendition almost 60 years later. Fabulous and brings back so many memories of those exciting times. Credit to Tony Begg who commented earlier and was fortunate to witness a live performance at Redcar Jazz Club. I wish I'd been there.

The song has been around for generations and the Animals were a copy of the earlier Lonnie Donegan issue. What has always been a curiosity is that it appears to be the story of a woman that has never been recorded as such by a woman. I could not fault Allie's performance beyond saying that I would have liked her to reclaim the song and sung it as a woman entrapped, by circumstances, in the House of the Rising Sun.

Lmao, this really is a great one to watch the crowds reactions. I’m usually entranced when Allie sings, but the whole crowd looks legit hypnotized or drugged or something and there’s a number of comical double takes and people stopping in their tracks. Wonderful as ever Allie!!

The house of Raising Sun is a traditional American folk blue song from the Appalachia. The song was made famous by the Animals originally called Rising Sun Blues Allie soulful voice brings out the depth of this song.

With respect, no one knows the origin of this song, but it most likely did not originate in Appalachia. Long before the Animals created a rock song by recording it in 6/8 rhythm, the song was first recorded in 3/4 time by several early 20th-century artists, most notably Hudie (Leadbelly) Ledbetter. Music historian Alan Lomax suggests that the basic lyrics were first created in New Orleans, probably before the Civil War and spread from there. He discovered the song in 1937 in Middlesborough, KY, sung for him by the young daughter of a coal miner. The roots of the song, not the lyrics, but the style and concept are somewhat related to earlier English & Celtic folk ballads brought to this country by earlier immigrants.

I have been to the real House of the Rising Sun in New Orleans, The Villa Conventa hotel, I have stayed there many times and it's definitely haunted. During and after Hurricane Katrina I had to patrol that area while I was a Louisiana State Special Officer. The French Quarter is quite freaky without no power.

It's not their song though. This song was written decades before they covered it, and recorded by artists such as Leadbelly and Woody Guthrie back in the 40s. It's origins go back to sometime around the 1920s.
