Words that hurts the heart right where you live man. Precise lyrics is what separates the talented & gifted troubadours which there are many, from the Dylans, and the Lennons who are on a higher plain. John soulfully sings, "they hate you if you're clever and they despise a fool". Followed by, "till you're so fucking crazy you can't follow their rules". PERFECT! And the melody again PERFECT! Who could know that a song you loved like you did so many others almost a half century ago would become one of the top 3 songs fucking defining your life. Meaning that "If you work hard, keep your nose clean, and excel to become the best that it wasn't true that you would be rewarded with happiness in your work". Big lie.

Cindy Lauper's cover rocks. This version is much closer to the original....in feel and tempo. I'm not saying one is better than the other. In my opinion, both versions are very good.
