I saw The Allman Brothers Band, Led Zeppelin, Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, and Sly and the Family Stone in concert in the late 1960s. Still one of the greatest concerts of my life

Incredible performance. And Warren at 8:23, Holy Rollers, Batman! And 8:35, a little Jimi nod. So nice.

This brings me to tears!!!!Greg Allman was magical. So much passion, soul and at times such pain and suffer are felt but this a song that is filled with such joy, happiness, love, and creativity. Warren is gifted in a way that makes me just 😁😊😁😊😁

these days I kind of think of the Allmans like I do the Count Bassie (sp?) orchestra. the line up may change from time to time. But you always have that feel and flavor

+John Wojszko Don't worry, I did for you, John. From 89-2000 didn't miss a year of at least one show. Some years, multiple shows. Some years, multiple shows in different countries. Some years, one show.I still, and always will, follow the fragments of this great institution. Why? Life saving, gut wrenching, HONEST, emotion, that speaks how I feel. Peace First saw Gregg in 86

As Derek starts wafting and waving to 'another drummer' from somewhere off 'in the East' as energy is sent to the hot lead that follows like ashes come out of a . . .

Takes me back a long, long time. Saw them (the original version) do this in a smoky, hot American University gym in 1971.

I was POWERFULLY reminded that prior to this, Warren had spent a great deal of time being Dead. The early part of his solo is SO-OO Jerry-ish - quite a brilliant idea, to avoid being toO Duane-y, If YKWIM.

Hey thanks once again, your videos are absolutely fantastic. I was curious as to why Derek is so much lower in all these mixes though..I would imagine it'd have to be the recording and not what the actual volume was on stage that night

No Betts No Revival. This sounds like a Cover band. Otel is great but not as good as Woody! Not feeling it in this configuration.
@mattgibbons44969 жыл бұрын
Does anyone feel the guitar into is "less powerful" than it was when it was Dickey and Warren? Don't get me wrong, I love Derek, but the intro to the song just felt a bit weak, like something was missing.
@tomc72418 жыл бұрын
I can't stomach Warren....not old enough ....never will be.....mixed chops....I was raised on Duane!!!
@Intensity2548 жыл бұрын
+Tom C Agreed Duane is a better guitarist, but Warren is one hell of a guitarist himself. I love his work with Gov't Mule and I really enjoyed when he toured with The Dead.
@danielcooper49338 жыл бұрын
Matt4542 funny you mention that Dead stuff. We saw them when they doubled wirh them. ( callef em Phil Lesh n friends ) . They were taking turns opening. Friendd openrd when we saw them and Warren was with the Dead. All thru the show I'm thinkin whos gonna play opposite Derek. Then when i see warren again . . Govt Mule indeed!!!!#

Dickie did better at slide soon after Duane died, when he had to. I saw the Hollywood Bowl ABB concert Aug. '72 (the one with the Johnny Winter Encore) and their In-Concert TV Set and Dickie was already surprisingly good. I'm glad I got to see Berry live as he died that Oct. You could find bootleg vinyl a while back of the whole ABB and Johnny Winter Concert and I got one. It's called Hollywood Bowl '72 The Allman Brothers Band - with Johnny Winter. It's not that bad for a bootleg and I love hearing them play in the old days.

I never understood why they needed a 3rd percussionist. Jaimoe and Butch could have held it down....

Individual qualities aside, the song was not intended for this messy approach.

Still pretty cool, but not quite the same energy (or personnel, of course) as when I saw them play it at American U back in 1970.

Three drummers..ok..too much. The dead made it work with two..but three...
@TheStompboxer6 жыл бұрын
Don S. You must not have followed them for the last quarter century of their career. There were reasons Quiñones (a percussionist, not a “drummer” in the traditional sense, usually) was there, and he’s great.
