Nice watch mate, one of my favourite tracks. Story with the auto on the stump is along the lines of, 80 series cooked it going up that last hill, left the car in there and come back to do a manual conversion at the bottom of that hill a couple days later and it snowed so they did it all in the snow. Used a sled to get the manual box and tools down from the top. 🤣🤣

Very cool that would have been an experience changing gearbox on the track in the snow

I think those with the rear lockers only should invest in a very inexpensive autolocker for the front. They are simple and cheap, especially if you have a Patrol.

@@AlloffroadAu It would have made the GU look a hell of a lot less ugly on that trail too :) I bet he was filthy when he found a simple blown fuse stopped his rear from getting power, haha.
@AlloffroadAu
@AlloffroadAu Жыл бұрын
he sure was and the way the e-locker default wiring is it shows it as working with the light on even if no power is at the locker. Mind you still need to find out why fuse is blown as really it should not.

I'm not too versed in late model GU's (they factory e locker?) but the standard rear LSD are so good in patrols idk why anyone would bother swapping in an elocker. We done this track opposite in June (2017??) took us 2 days we camped on the ridge/saddle was one of the most bitterly cold, windy and snowy nights I've ever had in high country. 2 discos and a GQ had to winch most of the rutted hill as we diffed out no lockers and a 300tdi disco one of the best tracks I've ever done. Pity i have a y62 now don't think I'll do it again in that .
@AlloffroadAu
@AlloffroadAu Жыл бұрын
That would have been an adventure. Yea LSD's are not bad but do wear out so rather replace with a locker as long as its not an e-locker

"You Victorians never want to air down." That's a bit of a rash generalisation.😁 I always air down. The last section of the Mt. Sunday track illustrated perfectly why at a minimum you should air down and why F & R lockers make driving obstacles so much easier and put far less strain on your driveline. I'm actually surprised the Patrol wagon didn't do any driveline damage. The cost of the damage repair to the other Landcruiser and the Patrol wagon would almost be about the same as the cost of at least one locker for each vehicle. Looking forward to Butcher Country. One of my favourite parts of the VHC. Some bloody steep and rough tracks in that area. Not for the faint hearted or inexperienced 4 wheel driver.
@AlloffroadAu
@AlloffroadAu Жыл бұрын
lol 😁, yep 100% agree without a front and rear locker (but centre diff) it's 2 wheel driving, not 4wd. So unless you have an LSD or traction control it's not a 4wd. Yep thought the same the damage would have been equal to at least one locker. In all fairness, everyone aired down just some did air down a little more. The patrol Harrop e-locker besides showing the engagement light, was also not working, so really only 2wd.

Good shot at 19:55, shows the steepness better. That's a high country smile, enjoying the climbs. Hard to capture the difficulty of high country tracks on film for people who haven't been. Loving the video but it's also giving me PTSD 😂 you had it easy 😂 alot tougher on foot after 6 days in, heavy pack, feet torn up with blisters, already 25+km in for the day, hot hot weather and ran out of water. Brutal. Finally found some on middle Ridge road at 10pm. If you haven't already you should drive N15 track and champion spur track from the black River to where it meets back up with the AAWT

@@AlloffroadAu yeh tough going. Actually lost the track walking up from low saddle as it was totally overgrown, thankfully after some bush bashing found the helipad and track. It's beautiful country up there, even though lower elevation compared to elsewhere it's southerly location means it's got some stunning sub alpine flora

Beautiful mountains. Trail looks a lot like what we have here in the Appalachian mountains in the US east coast. I’ve had a number of discussions with some guys from down under re the new Grenadier and its shortcomings and what will need to be modded for a lot of the uses in the US, and they never seem to get why, which I understand if most of the trails a person is running are sandy desert tracks. But I think if more of em did the Victorian High Country they’d understand. I watched your vids on the Grenadier as well and you had basically the same thoughts, and now I know why. Lol. This is my regular kind of offroading in my daily driver and is why I’m in a Gladiator. People can say what they want about Jeeps but this is what they’re built for. My Gladiator on 35s, with an Alucab and RTT and about 85% packed to go 100% of the time is a great daily, but when it gets to dirt and rocks just crawls along like a tank. And so far 47K miles in and no issues, knock on wood. Great vid and looks like you had an awesome time- love it! 🤙
@AlloffroadAu
@AlloffroadAu Жыл бұрын
yep 100% Grenadier will be ok for Desert driving (besides the very limited fuel range for our Deserts longest drive before refuelling is 1200km on the Canning and that is only 1/2 way in with not always fuel available.)
@dadventuretv2538
@dadventuretv2538 Жыл бұрын
@@AlloffroadAu LOL. yeah there are gonna be a LOT of fuel cans strapped on that baby!! I so hope Ineos makes some tweaks to it for the US market, I am really afraid that it’s gonna struggle for sales here. When the competition allows you to get a lifted rig with 35s from the dealer that has a removable roof and doors, and is likely to be cheaper, I think the Grenadier is gonna be a tough sell. I’d like to see them succeed here bc I don’t want another time like we had when we couldn’t get the Defender for 2 decades. Or worse yet they can’t sell enough vehs to make a viable company and fold after a few years. I guess we’ll see. Anyway, great vid. Didn’t realize it was the third in a series until the end. Gonna go back and watch the others. Cheers.
@AlloffroadAu
@AlloffroadAu Жыл бұрын
yep again 100% agree with you. You guy's have Ford Bronco, Raptor, Jeep etc. stock on 35" and way cheaper so Grenadier would be a hard sell, however, you will always have some fanboys just not sure it's a big enough market for them to keep going.

@Dave Dave lol, you caught me! For years now, I set up elaborate operations in which we screw with Harrop Eaton e-lockers so they don't work as they should and film them. Because I didn't know anyone but Stephen and had no idea what lockers they had, it was extra difficult on this trip. And all that because Harrop didn't provide me with free e-lockers. But wait, my first and only Harrop Eaton E-lockers I actually received at Media Pricing, the same as the TJM locker, but don't get the truth in the way of a good story :-). I wouldn't use the current Harrop e-locker even if you gave me it free and paid me on top.
