Historically, ninja used tanegashima muskets and explosives. One of these gunslinging shinobi was Sugitani Zenjubo of the Koga clan, perched up in a tree with his tanegashima primed and ready to kill the Dairokuten Maou (Demon Lord of the Six Heaven) himself, Daimyo Oda Nobunaga. Had his aim been true that day, he wouldve pulled it off but muskets practically have no rifling, meaning that the shot hit Oda in the cuirass. Zenjubo went into hiding in the Amida-ji Temple, in the Omi province, but was eventually captured and brought to Oda by the Omi province's daimyo, Isono Kazumasa, in an attempt to curry favour with Nobunaga. Zenjoubo was summarily executed by being buried alive up to his neck in sand and having his neck impaled by blunt bamboo stakes enough times to uncleanly behead him. Rule of thumb, if a ninja's name is known to history, that means that at some point they were caught. The ninja of the feudal age would've killed to have automatic firearms in their arsenal.

My roommate’s face lit up when Snake Eyes first appeared onscreen, and it didn’t take me long to figure out why. He’s a beast, and that’s putting it mildly
