Ok the being bailed out….I’m a single mom of a 17 year old. I don’t care what time it is or how far away she is if she calls me I’m going to her immediately. If I had a partner that refused to go with me they are GONE!

As a 19 year old.. I can’t imagine calling my parent to get me out of jail (can’t imagine doing something to deserve that in the first place) and then being upset when she doesn’t show up exactly when I want her to. I live alone in a different state so it’s not like she’d be able to in the first place, but just coming and getting me at all is more than enough. Of course you should be able to drink at 18, but you should also be able to afford the price of living, and that doesn’t make stealing any less illegal.

I was 19 and got arrested for evading border patrol. My parents rushed to the jail to bail me out and it took awhile. I learned my lesson for sure. The Dad was an a-hole. The daughter would have had enough time to sober and learn her lesson due to the 4 hour drive and the length of time to take care of the paperwork to bail her out.

I am the youngest of nine kids. Growing up our parents always told us that if we got arrested to not call them. We never had to. Just because they wouldn't run to jail to pick us up doesn't mean that they loved us any less. We all knew my dad would show up to talk to the deputies until they'd let us go on our own recognizance. He wouldn't be there to get us out early.

The story about not getting help from being in jail, almost the same thing happened to me when I was 22 (27now) and the first person I called was my dad and he didn’t help, told me I needed to “learn a lesson” I haven’t talked to him since

My brother had a dry wedding to but my mom & stepdad still snuck in alcohol & were doing shots under the table while laughing like teenagers. They asked me, my husband, other brother & has wife if we wanted any. We looked at each other Mordred. I felt like I was always more of adult than my mother but I felt so more than ever. I told her that it was wrong for them to do that. That should have respected my brother's wish on his wedding day. They just acted like it was no big deal.

I'm so happy that you mentioned that it should have been good enough reason for the husband to immediately drive to bail out 19 year old daughter based on being a good spouse alone. THAT action would have spoke volumes to the wife to feel bonded and supported by husband. I would be interested to know how the wife will react when any future issues came up ...will she feel alone and try to solve the problem herself :(

Along with the sharing beds thing I always gave my friends the option to sleep on the floor in a sleeping bag or in the bed with me because I now how I felt about sharing beds/physical touch in general. I was constantly forced to give hugs to people I didn’t want to as a child and my family (mom and step dad/siblings) loved to give “ credit cards “ ( finger tip swipe up The butt crack ) or like random pats on the head, just physical affection in general but none of them respected me enough to stop when I asked them to do so.

I am saying this with love just so you know, most autistic people prefer to be called just that (autistic people/autistic person) instead of person WITH autism ❤ its kinda similar to how we don't need to say a person with seeing loss instead of a blind person, person with no ability to walk instead of a paralyzed person, or a person with white skin instead of a white person.
@tieragibbs3045

Or another good way to understand is that we say gay person/ trans person instead of like person with homosexuality- it isn't a bad thing, just part of a person

You're blowing my mind!!! Last year I was taught the exact opposite, so I've been making the mental note to say "someone WITH autism". I was told they wanted to be known as a person who happens to have a disorder. NOW I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS RIGHT! I'M LITERALLY TRYING MY HARDEST RIGHT NOW
@tieragibbs3045
@tieragibbs3045 Жыл бұрын
@@RachelsPodcasts it can be really hard because there are a small handful of people who do prefer that person first language since the Healthcare field pushes it really hard onto parents, so many parents will use that wording.. And typically its parents and doctors that tend to get heard the most, even when majority of the actual community is trying to say otherwise ❤ its totally not your fault!! As an autistic person myself it didn't even click for me until I was able to look at other examples in our language to see why its okay (and actually better). It's just another small part of the push toward autism acceptance vs awareness 🙂

The wife is NTA for make sure here kid is safe. The husband is totally in the wrong in this situation. I remember when my oldest brother was in college he called my mom and was crying because something happened in his major and he needs to be picked up and my parents jumped in the car right away because he needs their help and he was crying and when he saw my parents and me and picked him up so he can go back to his dorm he calmed down a little. That's a good parent should do just be there for their kid when they need help

I agree with the internet on the driving and kid getting in trouble. Not everyone drinks, I never did. I choose to stay straight edge. Saying something is popular making it an excuse to underage drink and get away with breaking the law is not okay. Getting more sleep instead of driving on few hours of sleep and risking getting in a wreck at 3am is also a good point. Less than 1 day in jail isn't going to kill the 19 year old who broke the law and was being a bad kid. Learned a lesson. Just sounds like a spoiled brat and a mom that does anything for her. Also an astigmatism every single human has, its just a varying degree. She wanted to leave that second to drive 4 hours in the middle of the night on few hours of sleep, she could've done it herself.

I hate to disagree, but on the 19 year old in jail. the dad (or was it step dad) is not the asshole. She's an adult, if she killed someone she'd be prosecuted as an adult. Parents coddle their kids and kids never face any responsibility for their actions. Perhaps a night in jail will make her think twice about getting so drunk that she doesn't know where she lives. I drive Uber around college campuses and the way these college students (in particular the sorority girls) go out with the intentions of getting black out drunk (the conversations in the car I over hear) which they then use the next weekend to explain why they slept with Mr X at the Frat house (instead of just owning their actions of being a horny teen) amaze me. The dad has very valid point. She's in a lockup at the police station. She's not in a prison cell with murderers.. She's safe. She may not feel safe, but that's on her actions and actions have consequences.

For the 19 year old getting arrested, for me it would depend on the situation and reason for the arrest for me to rush or not rush to bail out my child. It all depends, no matter the age of my child. For me at least. Depending on the arrest reason, I’m all for the “scared straight and not rushing”.

The daughter can’t just get out of jail when they get there. She has to have a bond first which would happen in the morning. I would let her sit there for little bit as she is 19 and underage drinking. There are consequences for our actions. But I’m not saying I would drive at 3am to try to get my kid out of jail

You don’t know all the facts about his sleeping situation he might take stuff to help him sleep and can’t drive well on them, as a mom to a daughter I would possibly tell her to sit and wait till the morning it’s far away you have a little brother that’s sleeping if there where closer it would have been yours different for sure but 4 hours is a lot to drive at 3 am

From having family working at the prison, at the jail, and for the county in general.... NOT A EFFING CHANCE WOULD I LEAVE MY DAUGHTER IN THERE!!!!! HECK TO THE NO!!!! i get it if this was a recurring thing..... my cousin had issues as a teen/adult and after the 3rd time with a run in with the law my aunt and uncle didn't bail him out. He had to stay in jail over the weekend until he saw a judge. They still showed him love and support but also showed him where his life would be heading if he kept up that kind of behavior. It worked. He got cleaned up and started seeing a therapist (which he refused to do for years despite my familys best efforts) and yeahh..... It is good to have boundaries and to teach your children about consequences but no! That man is absolutely the A-HOLE!! 100% He would bail out his son in a millisecond no matter what he had done! If i was the mom i would have took my husbands credit card, called a cab, and left the meter running as i bailed my child out!
