I really appreciate that you're now including DC output ripple in these reviews; I know it's extra work to capture, but I think it gives good insight to the amount of effort the designers went into the device's quality and high ripple can absolutely cause hard to diagnose problems depending on the downstream device.

I love that you did a video on these! I travel alot and love the Sankton 65w as my travel adapter. I wish it was more efficient, but I'm not paying the bill at airpots, shops and hotels. I also travel with an Anker 543 65W slim charger with 4 ports. 2 Laptops fully charged plus I can juice up my phone, mouse, keyboard, toothbrush...whatever. I wonder if I'm hurting my devices? I bought the Satechi for home use because of your videos and want the efficiency.

I don't think you are causing any harm to the devices themselves. But yeah, it does seem true that in general the slim adapters sacrifice a bit of performance for thinness.

@@AllThingsOnePlace I don't think you fully grasp how necessary these adapters are. All my laptop accessories are nice and thin and fit in my laptop sleeve. The exception is the power supply. Most people buying these are using them as travel adapters, not something that fits behind a desk (although honestly who cares if they're a little warm so long they don't catch fire). I really don't understand this striving for poverty meme. 300mw isn't the end of the world. A clean power supply that is slim and lightweight is all that travelers give a damn about.

Just wanted to leave my thanks for stellar content. You got me hooked on USB PD tech and I've picked up several of your recommendations. Stellar content all around - keep up the great work! I would love to see a video on "best power banks / adapters for projects", focusing on only ones which can function as a UPS and/or don't interrupt other devices when renegotiating. Sometimes that functionality alone would make or break me buying a product. I'm probably demonstrating my ignorance, but I wonder if there may be a market for some kind of supercap-based "renegotiation fixer" product you could throw inline for devices that are sensitive to it.

Yeah, I have a prototype of that, it isn't very good but technically does work. I have some video of it in action but it isn't posted anywhere. To make it cheap makes it terrible, to make it functional is expensive and time consuming. I have a whole video on UPS functionality planned. They make specific devices for that. I have a bunch of them.

I know, when I got into this I was very turned off by the price to watt ratio of the adapter. I wonder if it is cheaper now. I'd also worry about general compatibility at this point. It'll make it eventually, maybe I can find a used one.

I use the baseus but got it on sale. I got it for the form factor and it suits my use case as I use when I travel or go to a coffee shop. If it wasn't on sale I would've passed on it and bought a better performing anker adapter

The slim adapter I use is the Realme 50W Mini SuperDart Charger. Edit: I remember where I found this one. MKBHD mentions this adapter in his Everyday Tech for 2022 video.

I'm with you. I don't quite see the appeal of these. My one thought for a use case would be maybe for use with an outlet blocked by a piece of furniture, such as behind a nightstand or a couch or something, where having an adapter which lays flat against the wall and the ports point down may be an advantage.

I don’t see myself buying a skinny adapter that has only NEMA prongs. An adapter for travel but not international travel seems pretty niche to me. I think I’d rather travel with a C7 input and the right mains cables.

One thing that's missed is these almost all certainly kick down power during load. I have the Trebleet and it will swing down to 45W after about 10 minutes at high load. That said, I'm fine with that... it's less than 3 ounces and the form factor is everything as a digital nomad. It slips into a slim pocket on my MBP's sleeve and cuts at least 2-3 ounces over more conventional 65w gan chargers. It can easily fit it in areas with little extra space (ie. behind a couch). As the cord points up/down it tends to work better in areas like cafes.

hmm i have a aolion 65w flat one that i like but usually carry around my voltme 65w usb-c one since its so small. the reason i like the 65w Aolion one is because its flat front face lends itself well to taking aluminum or copper foil tape and creating a sort of improvised external heatsink/rf shield on the outside of it by folding the tape back on itself about 20 times on the front face with about 50-70mm of length. kinda janky but i think it will make it last a lot longer since i charge my laptop with it.

I think you have to factor in that they are travel adapters, so efficiency is lower on the list of priorities. I opted for the Baseus.

I would buy the one for $6 and call it good. It’s a USB port right? Oh. One thing. You said you don’t understand the point. I do. I travel for work. One of the hotels is light on plugs. So I have to move furniture out of the way to plug in a normal USB port. Huge pain in the ass. A slim one like this would be perfect. That said. I ain’t spending $40 a usb plug to charge my phone overnight! Love your channel.

Good day sir. May i ask which power adapter for macbook pro 16 you would recommend? I want to pick maybe from 120-140 watts , to charge my phone and the laptop simultaneously. Was thinking to pick the ugreen one.... but maybe youll suggest better option? My choice is the 165W Satechi. Safety listed, universal input voltage, replaceable line cord so it can be powered from any socket type. If you want something with earthing though, which you might with a macbook, your options shrink considerably. Basically, desktop adapters with three pin. There's not a lot out there in the sub 200 watt category, I'm actually not coming up with any. At 140W, the UGREEN or any of the clones (Rocoren, etc.) adapters all perform okay.

Hi! im looking for 100w charger for my laptop and smartphone now, and in my country there is some option like Baseus Gan5 100w, Ugreen Nexode 100w, Anker 736 Nano II 100W, and Mcdodo CH 8101 GAN 100w. Do you have any recomendation throung these brands for 100w charger? Thanks!

I haven't tried the Gan5 one yet, the Anker wasn't great, Mcdodo I haven't looked at for 100W, the UGREEN may win just from not having looked at the others, opinion of course. I need to get some of these other chargers in.

They aren't bad. Samsung's 45W charges are quite good, the Google 30W charger is a favorite of mine for lower power charging. The Xiaomi lacks any safety marks but the one I looked at seemed okay performance wise.

Can you test the Nomad 65W Slim Power Adapter? It's very compact and has 2 USB C outputs. There is also a 35W with one port. They look great for travel if they perform decently well

@@AllThingsOnePlace not specifically about slim adapters but, I tried 5, 30W anker nano 7 series adapters and 1, 511 adapter to power a macbook air, and after a while of charging they stop charging and restart again after a second and cause the charge sound to play on the mac. maybe they are overheating after a while and do this as protection. Is this some thing you can test for?

the Bseus GAN5 65W travel charger gets really hot and after about 15 mins lowers the output to 45W on the USBC port. I only have it for travel, but this makes it clearly not usable for anything else!

That is ridiculous with this unit a 65w charger can't even sustain 65w continuously. Garbage. I really like my anker 543 4 port pd/pps 65w total charger, perfect for all my smaller devices, I could even charge my laptop if I needed to with 45w on 1 port, perfect Slim desktop multi device charger. can you test Baseus Charging Station 100W, 7-Port GaN USB C Charger Power Strip Surge Protector 1200J with 5ft Extension Cord? I measured 2w idle power consumption, I can't believe it has .99 power factor 100% load, but 2w idle power draw

Yeah, that's awful. I did look at one Baseus power strip thing, it was okay. Idle was high at 0.4 watts. 2w sounds like an apple cable may still have been plugged in during measurement.

@@lolidasterner414 well if you watched the video then you would've heard him talk about efficiency, ripple and idle power usage too. At the end of the day you shouldn't really get a slim charger, get normal shaped ones, they're better.

Yeah, I also mix up power adapters and power bank constantly when working on those videos. But yeah, essentially they squeeze the adapter into a slim case and lose a bit of performance along the way.

I got the baseus during a sale, so I paid a lot less (~38$). Unfortunately, your review didn't exist at the time! :P Ultimately, I got it because the size/shape allows it to fit inside my tablet case without pressing on the screen. A shame it's such a poor performer.

Yeah, as a once in a while use it's fine, the energy loss won't have much impact, especially if it doesn't sit plugged in doing nothing. It does have a lot of stuff in the box so it looks like they really tried to make a good adapter. It just doesn't quite hit the mark on efficiency. There is certainly opportunity and demand for a good thin adapter.
