This wasn't my favourite of their creations but, I think the whole thing is symbolic of fame and power. Most die trying to reach it, and those that do get to it end up dying anyway. It lures you in with its light, and once you're in it's grasp you see the true horrors behind it.

In my opinion, this is just a display of natural selection. The males (smaller creature) are lured in to the female's (bigger creature) light. This was evolved to attract a mate, where the female attracts the male. For the males to get to the female, they need to cross the road, which is a test of intelligence and agility. The first male wasn't intelligent at all, so he got hit by a car. The second male was more intelligent, however stopping instead of going under the car (like the third male) means less distance covered in a set time. Because it takes more time to cross the road, there's a higher chance of a car coming. Finally, the third male went under the car, which means he traveled a longer distance in a shorter time. He gets to the female, they mate, higher chance of the agility and intelligence genetics being passed on. Over time, this will tend to be how the species is, agile and intelligent. At the end, when the female ate the male, this could be seen as cannibalism. However, it could also be seen as the female getting nutrients for her coming pregnancy; instead of her going out to hunt some food, she eats the male and gets the nutrients the male gives. All in all, my opinion is that it's just a display of natural selection. Others may think it's something else, yet I just wanted to add my two cents. Wait, I'm on KZbin. Umm... Moar tits pl0x. The placement of the female (bear/angler) near the road ensures that only the best suitor male (furbee/dog) is allowed to mate and carry on the genes. Then, like the black widow, the female devours the male. It's interesting to see several species characteristics put together like this.

Xander Hytch But male anglers track females by scent, the lure is just used for food. And they don't eat the males; the male just bites the female's skin until his circulatory system fuses with the female's. He doesn't die, just kinda becomes a reproduction enabling parasite. A female actually eating her mate is more common in insects; mantids, spiders, and such.

The story became a little bit predictable quite early on, but the animation and especially the model design were amazing - this is why I subbed to you guys, because it's not often you see really great stop-motion animation on youtube - also I loved the blink in the credits :D.

Ugh you guys don't get it, that's why you don't rate it as high. This piece is a beautiful in itself you just don't realize it, it's complex. They do it in this manner to get you to find an underlining theme and I'll even say that they do it in this dark matter to show show the sad truth. I love their videos because their simplicity causes controversy. It's forcing you to look at situations in a different light or in a way that forces you to face the truth. I believe that they're saying that everything that glitters is not gold. I believe they're trying to show us that throughout our lifetime we waste time chasing false hopes, or prizes that actually have no worth. Don't blindly follow into the unknown. Another reason I find it beautiful is because it does it in such a short amount of time with such a simple storyline, it didn't have to have complicated animations or a breathtaking script,it just showed you how things are and to me that's beautiful.

I think I see where the artist was going with this. It's almost like imagining what it would be like if mammals courted like insects do. Kind of garry larson-ish to me. I like it. For those who missed it, the smaller pink dog things were the males of the given species, the big thing with the glowing bulb was the female. Basically, many males get killed during the mating season, one get in to have his way, donates his genetic code, and is promptly eaten. Some creatures repeat the process so that competitive breeding can breed better offspring. It's not really seen in mammals, which is why I equate it to a Garry Larson. It's imagining one creatures behavior transferred in to another creature, creating something almost alien. It even leads me to believe that it may be representing what angler fish do, but with mammals and on land. Accept that a male angler fish latches on to the much larger female, then gets absorbed until he's reduced to a pair of gonads. I think it's a brilliant concept, because it does create something almost alien, especially with the whole Jim Henson thing going on. Either way, it's actually kind of a humorous way of looking at nature, pondering "what if mammals did that kind of shit?"

I think a really good ending would have been to have the little furry creatures go and fight and barely make it to the other side, and it turns out to be the headlights from other cars and in the distance another light shines out and they begin towards it. Kinda symbolizing the never ending circle of life ya know?

Okay, so this is what happened: This species of creature is trying to cross the road to a light, which it thinks is a mate. Most of them get killed on the way over, and only the fittest survive to get to mate. So, after the fittest one makes it over, the thing it thinks it's going to mate with is actually not a mate, and eats it. (the light on it's head is resembling a species of fish that live in the darkness of the ocean, very far down. The fish attracts fish who are interested by the light, and come to check it out. then it gets eaten. However, this fish is smaller than your hand.)

This is the Styx river and a death embrace. They say, in the last moment, you see something so beautiful that no one can stand and soul gives up a body.
