Ally McCoist is my favourite match commentator by far. Always so positive about the game and doesn't utter "that was poor" or "he should have done better there" every 30 seconds. He points out the amazing things players do on the football pitch, unlike most commentators who just treat a remarkable bit of skill as a standard 5-yard pass, or blame someone else for not preventing that bit of skill taking place ("he got beat too easily there!" - Gary Neville or Jamie Carragher). I genuinely enjoy watching football when he's on commentary and hope he gets even more exposure. Negative analysis is fine after a game, but during the game, I want to enjoy it in a positive manner, not choosing to believe that these remarkable footballers are all a bunch of Sunday league players, which is what most commentators would have you believe.

Writing as an Englishman and (worse still) a southerner, I keep an eye on Scottish footie from the corner of my eye. I cannot take it hugely seriously either, just as I do not expect others to take the NLD seriously. I despise the history of sectarian bitterness too... I despise it. But it is impossible not to be impressed and somehow.moved by the enormous amount of energy, skill, desire and will that Ally McCoist brought to Rangers. I never saw him play other than on TV.
