Ever wanted to make cold process milk soap but not sure how? In this video, I use almond milk instead of water in the soap recipe, but you can use this technique for any kind of milk soap. This soap is scented with French lavender and petitgrain essential oils (details below). It's so fresh and vibrant! Perfect for that bright, summer feeling in any season.
This was actually meant to be an Almond Milk Valentine's Day Hearts Soap! But alas, my hearts are more like sacred Bodhi tree leaves... I feel like it was meant to be 🥰🌳

Total oils 290g

Coconut oil 58g - 20%
Macadamia nut oil 29g - 10%
Castor oil 14.5g - 5%

Hi Elly. Thank you for all your soap recipes! I’ve made several soaps already, and they’ve all turned out beautifully! I would love to try this one, but I have a question: when you take this soap out of the freezer, do you wrap it in towels ( as you’d do with other soaps), or do you just leave it at the room temperature uncovered? Thanks in advance. Greeting from Denmark, Bojana

Hi Elly, I made this on Saturday and put it in the deep freeze for a few hours. When I took it out of the deep freeze I took the soap out of the mold and left it on the counter. The next day it was a soggy blob 😂 I didnt use macadamia oil. I used Ansa Smit- Saponify substitution for olive oil, that is half canola and half palm. Ansa, like me, lives in South Africa and she showed how to substitute two oils in place of olive due to the very high cost of olive oil here. I added on the amount needed to replace the macadamia to half in canola and half into palm I love watching you and Ansa. xx

What’s the reason for putting the mould straight into the freezer? Did the keep warm part not required? Did you keep them in the freezer for a day before unmould? I recently did a batch with very similar recipe n came across soap being too soft to unmould problem. After 2 days I put them in fridge for an hr before I unmould. It was mostly hard but the edges still lost its details due to it being soft. Hope to get some answer to that. Thanks.

I tried to make the beginner’s lavender soap according to your 2 year old video, and as soon as I added lavender essential oil(15ml), it just seized! Hi, thanks Jyoti, it sounds like it was your lavender oil! Are you sure it was pure essential oil? Pure lavender oil won't do that to your soap. If it was a synthetic fragrance oil that was probably the culprit.

Hi Ella, would a gel food colouring work with this recipe instead of mica?
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking 3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure how well that would go, generally food colourings are not recommended for soap. It may not survive the saponification, and could go brown!

That's a good idea! Yes, sodium lactate could be good but I don't use it in my soaps these days. I like to keep the ingredients pretty simple! This bar will firm up beautifully on curing :)

Hello Elly it’s Debbie here, do you weigh the milk before freezing it? I watch others who just add the coconut milk;, and it looks so creamy without being frozen?
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking 3 жыл бұрын
There are other methods, but if you are doing a full water replacement you need to freeze the milk to use it for the lye solution. I weigh it straight into my ice cube trays so I have just the right amount.

Elly, thankyou for the recipe. What temperature are your oils in this milk soap. The lye/milk was in the low 20 C. Have made this soap a couple of times with different brands of almond milk and homemade almond milk, I want the end result to be a white soap.

Thank you for a great video. I plan to try this. Does the almond milk impart any scent (I'm guessing it doesn't)? Also, which of your videos (if any) has an explanation of gel phase? I'd like to understand better what it is and learn how I can avoid the big round mark in my soaps that appear as they dry. Thanks again.
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Arlo, I've got a great description of gel phase on my website that I'm launching on the weekend! ellyseveryday.com That will definitely answer your question. And no, the almond milk doesn't impart any scent in my experience.

Elly thank you so much for giving us your time and your creativity. I have a question. What’s the normal time you leave your soap after it’s done before you can use it or gift it. I want to make some for Valentines, so should I make it now so it’s ready for Valentines?

Elly thank you so much for your videos. Could you do one specifically for soaping temperature. I'm finding different results from the same ingredients AND method of gelling afterwards and I think the issue is soaping temperature. I've noticed you don't seem to place much importance in it and eyeball things. Are there different temps for different ingredients besides milk soaps?
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking
@EllysEverydaySoapMaking 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Joey, yes, I am planning a video on this very subject soon! It's a great one to learn about, because whether or not temperature matters really does depend on the recipe :)

Hi Elly, what a gorgeous result, and I'm so happy to see your first milk soap video! The mica decoration is just enough. Like you, I'm not really into the fancy decorating with pigments etc. I just worry that it may not be healthy to put all of that colourant on your skin. I love the simplicity of a more natural looking soap with a touch of elegance and you did that here. :)
