I've used both the fuji x-system and Sony A7 system a fair bit (I own both) and I have no idea why anyone would pay for an X-T2 when an A7ii is the same price. Sure the equivalent FE mount lenses in most cases cost more than the Fuji lenses, but they're full-frame lenses, and the A7 is clearly superior. The X-T2 in some areas has technical advantages over the A7 (physical dials for everything is nice), but that's hardly a trade off for what A7 offers - once you go full-frame, you never go back. I also found the x-trans and it's demosaicing (at least in lightroom) produced some minor artifacts around edges when pixel peeping; this also rendered it's effects when doing magnify MF assist. Don't get me wrong, I very much enjoy the Fuji X system (or I would have gotten rid of my X gear when I got my A7), but I question Fuji's logic in pricing it so near the superior Sony full-frame mirrorless gear.
@chosen_none8 жыл бұрын
Few of those are objectively better on fuji X than sony FE. Cost is about the only one (as noted in my original post), but as I said, the premium to step up to full frame is only 20-30% more over the fuji's, and the benefits of full frame are thoroughly worth it. Full frame lenses typically are bigger than APS-C as they have to cover a larger image area, but I have FE lenses that are smaller than my X lenses and vise versa. As for IQ, the Fuji's are nice for sure, but some of the Sony Zeiss lenses have been the highest resolving lenses tested by DxO Mark. I will give it to Fuji for the perceived build quality of they're lenses. They feel fantastic, but Sony has equally amazing feeling lenses. As far as sensor IQ goes, Sony takes it's hands down, and that's just the base A7. I applaud Fuji for giving it a go with X-trans, but Bayer ordering wins out. The full-frame sensor captures more light and performs notably better in low-light. The A7r blows away fuji in terms of resolution, and the A7s is on an whole other level of dynamic range and low-light performance.
@chosen_none8 жыл бұрын
The FE lens landscape was kind of bare when the system was new, but the same was true of Fuji X (I got each one about 6mo after the systems debuted). Sony/Zeiss have released quite a few lenses, and there's more third-party players getting into FE as the system has been booming. Full-Frame dSLRs are huge in comparison to the A7 (even APS-C dSLR are more sizable), I don't miss that either. Some of the glass is still pretty big - the premium G series f/2.8 zooms and the very fast lenses, but similar is true of Fuji.
@whoisdv8 жыл бұрын
As a guy who switched from a a6000 to a X-T1, I am happy I didnt go for the A7 (Which i could've got but i couldnt say no to a 480€ refurb X-T1) because all it has more than the a6000 is some more buttons and a bigger body with a bigger sensor. Yes you can get more depth of field but Sony FE glass is also fkn expensive. The cheapest lens you can get is 400€ (The 28mm F2) By sheer numbers, the A7 tops it all, but I like the colors on my current Fuji a lot more than on my a6000 so I spend less time in post because straight out of the camera the pictures look really good. With the a6000 I had to tinker with the White balance everytime i had to edit it in post. Also, it has better low-light capability than my a6000 and maybe a bit worse than the Full Frame A7. Video is way worse tho but i hardly film anything so that doesnt really matter to me anymore.

I don't get why some cameras do artificial performance limitations until you add a battery grip. For example, nikon has done it in the past with their D700 even though the battery grip had nothing that assisted with processing speed to handle a higher frame rate. It was simply an artificial limit to make people dump extra money into the camera.
@Razor20488 жыл бұрын
It doesn't seem like a current issue, especially considering that for lighting equipment which can make use of certain DSLR batteries, they often drain the batteries far more quickly. Those batteries can effectively deliver a short circuit current well in excess of 200 amps, it is why some companies that make portable lighting equipment, will re-purpose the batteries of popular cameras. It allows people to make use of batteries they may already have, and are readily available, and they can deliver a very high amperage.
@alanschamber8 жыл бұрын
voltage.
@Razor20488 жыл бұрын
In looking up the ones for the D700, it seems that 8FPS mode gets enabled even if the batteries in the grip are dead, or if you use the tray which allows you to use AA batteries. Overall, it is literally just a software limitation to make sure you spend extra money. Going from 5FPS to 8FPS does not require much more power. It has been like that for many cameras, and it is purely a money grab. As long as the batteries are initialized at 11 volts or higher, thus a dead battery showing a high enough voltage due to ionic resistance, can get it to kick in, since they don't want it unexpectedly killing the performance. On some of their cameras, there were even modes which would use the higher shutter speed where you could continuously use them to fill the raw buffer (e.g., the D300), without the battery grip.
@ColtonDuckering8 жыл бұрын
The reason in the Xt2 is heat. Sensors and batteries create a lot of heat while recording. Being able to move the power draw out of the body of the camera helps a lot. Sony didn't put these limitations in and now people are having overheating problems.

The X-T2 is not a DSLR. It is a mirrorless camera. You keep referring to the X-T2 as a DSLR in the video. 0:23, 1:48 for example. If I went and bought this after watching this video and later found out it wasn't a DSLR, I would be a little upset. You talk about how this camera is so much smaller than "other" DSLR's. That is because a DSLR body has to also house a mirror that directs the light from the lens up to the viewfinder (hence the "Single Lens Reflex"). Since this is a mirrorless camera that does not house a mirror, yes, it will be smaller.

Fuji camera's are best with vintage glass tbh. Their lens range is lacking, especially if you don't have a huge budget (but I guess that keeps their line premium and high quality). I run a Fuji XE-1 with Canon FD lenses. I just got an RJ speedbooster in the mail today and WOW does it make a difference. We know it makes the image a stop brighter and no longer crops it, but I was amazed by the sharpness it added. Speedboosters are def a must and are totally worth it (at least the ebay ones, metabones is really up there). Only complaint with my $73 speedbooster is the locking ring for FD lenses is rather loose, so I'm gonna get a piece of tape to hold it in place if I'm just running one lens for the shoot

looking to either go with the upcoming Sony A7iii (to be released soon probably)/ A7ii or to just but the Fuji XT-2. Will be using the camera for both stills and video production. Any comments or recommendations will strongly help! Thanks everyone! Please no fanboy company loyalty arguments though.
@ghosface3538 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure A7iii will be better at video, specially the way Sony has handled 4k with A7RII and A6300/6500. I use an A7ii, I like it, but most doesn't like it for video. I don't really shoot video. I think if you choose an A7ii over the XT-2 it should be for one reason only: full frame. If you want the full frame-look, and also you want to adapt either canon lenses, or old legacy lenses. Sony lenses has become really expensive. As someone that lives in Europe lenses cost 20-30% more than they did 2 years ago. Probably the same with Fuji, but couldn't be sure. If you want to shoot APC, like all the dials that Fuji has, and also need a dual cardslots, then Fuji is for you. They have a lot of great APC lenses. If I wanted to shoot APC I will choose them over Nikon and Canon is most of their best lenses are made for full frame. Unfortunatly none of the mirrorless cameras has great third party lens support. All the cheaper Tamron and Sigma lenses are mostly for DLSR (there are a few APC lense, but most good ones are not available). I got an A7ii and A6000. I have the Sony Zeiss 55mm f/1.8, the Sony FE 28mm f/2, the Zeiss Batis 85mm f/1.8 and the Sony FE 70-200mm f/4 G lens. All really good lenses, but very expensive if I didn't bought them used or on sale. Also there are no cheap and good zoom lenses, only really expensive premimum lenses. The Sony FE 70-200mm f/4 is probably the only good one that cost $1500 or less.

The title screen challenge about counting the boats was BS (entirely too many sailboat masts), but it definitely kept me paying more attention to how sharp the images were in a way that I don't usually pay as close of attention to.

Good video, though you should be careful in the future to not imply that this is a DSLR (1:50: "unlike any other DSLR I've ever used").

I was at my local camera store, and I found out that most DSLR don't do long videos because if they did, they would no longer be considered a still camera. This would force them to be categorized as "video cameras", changing the way that they are taxed(?). Does that sound at all correct, or am I just thinking of some odd dream that I had and giving it the credence reserved for reality?

Love it when we get Brandon or Edzel or Taran or Luke or basically anyone but Linus or Dennis videos :)

I have the X-T2 and it has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. Sure it's a bit expensive, but so is most cameras with this quality and performance, but it's the way the camera works and how I'm emotionally connected to the X-T2.

Stellar review. This camera keeps on getting better and better the more eye use it. Fotomix Fringer now makes a pretty good electronic adapter. Its $300 plus and I find that it works much better with Canon glass than Sigma. It's really brought some new life into some of my L lenses. What a combo!

Question: I'm considering 50-140mm lens. How "noisy" is this lens when in use? I'm hearing "Fuji Guys" tell me it's silent enough for simple video AF recordings where you don't want lens noise picked up by your mics. But I'm also hearing it's "noisy" and might be heard in a 'Live' video recording. I know all about the features, quality & Photo capabilities. I also need it to shot Ski photos and unlike the Sony A6500 & lens I know this camera and this lens is WR approved down to 14F degrees. So that got me interest in this lens. But I also need a quality mid-range telephoto like this one to record simple high quality 'Live' singer/band music at night with stage lighting. I'm not worried about it's low light abilities but I'm worried about any noise coming from a lens in AF mode since I record with a quality external stereo mic on the hot-shoe. Based upon your usage do you feel this lens in simple point & shoot AF video record mode could be used in 'Live' recordings with an external on camera stereo mic without continuous lens noise being picked up by the mic? Thanks for your thoughts on this question.

I really wanted the X-T2 and everything is great about it but ending up going for a A6500 as I found it a better "video" camera and the X-T2 better at photos which they do best.

Those film emulations are so nice. It is unfortunate that you can't get a flat-ish profile, but I'm honestly attracted to that camera because of those film profiles.

Has techquickie done a video on what all of the camera vocabulary is and what it means? If they haven't they really should!
