Bauble is definitely a problem in this deck, but I'm surprised I don't see more people talking about planar nexus. It makes it really easy to get to four mana on turn two, and provides the colored mana the deck needs to beat null rod. Without planar nexus this deck would slow down a lot, and would be far less resilient to hate pieces.

I agree that nexus totally makes the mana base stronger, but I don’t think the problem is nexus. It’s pretty easy to go ancient tomb into grim monolith, key, untap monolith, play the one ring on turn one. I think the one ring is the real problem in this deck.

I feel like turn 2 void mirror on the draw is too slow. So I think it would only work in decks with consistent two mana on turn 1. Edit: or other interaction to stop the potential 4 mana play on turn two on the play from this deck. Edit 2: This deck can even achieve 4 mana on turn one, in which case void mirror is way too slow. Also void mirror only counters a spell if no colored mana was spent to cast it, not if it’s colorless. So they can spend a colored mana from a lotus petal or mox opal or filter it through Nexus for 1 more mana and be fine.

@@cloaking111 yeah, but there are just better answers than void mirror, like null rod. Plus, 4 mana on turn 2 on the play is not a good draw for this deck, it is very normal. So you do need to accelerate the two mana answer on the draw or have additional interaction. Edit: plus void mirror does nothing against what is already in play. And, if you care about stopping zeros, vexing bauble already does that.

Vexing Bauble reminds me of Mental Misstep. Vexing Bauble being a way for non blue decks to protect themselves not realizing combo can use it it too, closely mirrors the idea of Mental Misstep famously being sold as a counter for non blue decks. I thought this deck was nutty when one ring first came out and it was one of my favorite decks to play. This version with fleshraker k command and much better mana makes that version look like a pile of crap. Even if you ban bauble this list can just go back to defense grid and be about the same. Yes or Thalia in force of Will decks to bypass bauble. The fastest decks like ooos and necro do not play bauble. Reanimator is slower than it used to be, even this deck is slower than it used to be. It is more consistent though. People playing this deck at eternal weekend made a good meta call

I mean. Okay, I want to hear some arguments and honest to god replies. I am a legacy player, although not as good as Brian, of course. The archetypes I play the most are: Lands, painter, saga storm, and adjacent decks. I cannot play island ponder decks because I forget how I stack the deck, I am an ADHDer and cannot play that sort of cantrips as I forget. My argument here is: The deck list I see in front of me is made stupid by inclusion of cards meant for commander. The one ring Urza’s workshop The other land that enables tron.. And the new eldrazi As far as I can tell (and maybe I cannot tell) The epic storm, and other decks that have adopted bauble, do have a certain degree of fail rate, and that is why they don’t normally perform consistently for 10-12 rounds. And if I remember correctly, there was a blue shell deck that had bauble and was not very much performing consistently although it had a potential for explosive wins. So, given that this EW was about beating frog before a potential ban, aren’t we (not me, I don’t even play mtgo, or compete consistently) witnessing a gut reaction to a card that yes, it’s very good. But also had been used to oppose a deck that feels unbeatable? Or another question can be: Do you honestly and intellectually believe that IF frog is banned, we will not see an organic decrease in decks that use baubles? Yes, there will be the eldrazi player, and the other decks. But overall, large pools of people tend to self regulate, don’t you think? This is also why people independently decide to play less of a card that dominate the discourse if they feel the discourse is toxic. I know I only play in small legacy events and so on and my experience is not statistically significant. But as social scientists I am intrigued to know whether this exhaustion is due to the frustration about frog or other things, which then is expressed in a big middle finger to blue decks by the use of bauble. I am looking forward to read some good pointers. Please keep it respectful, we all love amazing Bosh ❤
