My garden did okay this year but not as well as last year and the year previous. I'm trying to figure that out but that's part of the fun and unpredictable side of why we do this every year I guess.

Very true about each year being different. I had a problem with Nematodes this year. It's been years since that happened. There's always next year :)

Jim, I always enjoy seeing your garden updates. By the way, weeds or not, it still looks good. Yesterday, I spent most of the afternoon outside, picking yellow bush beans, and tomatoes, and pulling weeds. When I picked the beans, I also pulled the bean plants out. I'm starting the fall cleanup a bit earlier than usual. Last week the roofing company showed up to replace my house and garage roofs, (hail damage from a year ago) shingles, tarpaper, etc. While pulling weeds, I was also looking for (and finding) nails and roof junk here and there around my house and garage. I know what you mean about losing momentum when the heat and humidity are unbearable, my 'get up and go' runs away. I hope you and Mrs. Midwest Gardener have a great Labor Day weekend! ~Margie🤗

Glad you enjoy them, Margie. I've been doing a little cleanup here and there every week. I pulled some tomato plants a couple of days ago, and I see some more plants that probably need to go. Lol, sometimes when my get up and go runs away, I'm not sure if it's coming back :) Have a great weekend!

Those crickets in the background were so relaxing. What a pleasant evening. The heat has been unbearable here too, but we've finally broken back into the 90s. Hope your autumn gets some hurry under it.

Thanks! I agree...the sounds of crickets outside is relaxing. The sound of one inside is very annoying though :) Autumn will be here before we know it.

Your garden is still looking rather fruitful. It's good to know that you have some more goodies coming. I just planted some rattlesnake and black beans yesterday. We usually don't have a frost until December so I think I will have plenty of time to harvest. We've had a lot of rain lately which makes me glad I don't have any tomatoes right now. Take care, be safe in the heat. Have a great weekend.

Thanks Shirley! Yes, you have quite a bit of gardening season left. Hope the fall season does well for you. Have a great weekend!

It seems like no matter what you plant by the storm shelter from year to year, it always does awesome.

Yes, it's been a nice little addition to our gardening space. The Bermuda grass has tried to take over this year.

Good Afternoon Jim - Thanks for the garden update and looks like you still have lots to harvest and preserve. I know what you mean about the heat and not wanting to endure it as it's been crazy hot this year. I've been winding down my small garden with just a few fall crops and starting to organize indoors for starting seeds next year. Hope you have a wonderful weekend and things get cooler soon..

Good afternoon Sue. Thanks! Yes, it's that time of year when the garden is winding down. I always start hearing crickets outside when the summer is about over. They are telling me that fall will be here soon. Hope your fall crops do well for you! Have a great weekend!

Great update. Rolling into September strong. Thanks for the share!

Thanks! The garden is getting smaller every week. About half the tomato plants have been pulled already.

Always nice to see your garden. It’s amazing how much your garden produces. I’m just ready for fall and hoping for a better gardening year next year. I fell a couple weeks ago and hurt my knee so not much is getting done around here. Hope you are having a great weekend.

Thanks Linda! I'm really sorry to hear about your fall. I hope you get well soon. I know how frustrating it can be when you can't do the things that you are used to. I find myself always hoping for a better gardening year next year too. Hope you have a great weekend!

Thanks! It's doing pretty well for the amount of heat that we had this summer.

G’day, mate. Still a lot to be harvested. How’s the weather lately? Do you say it’s the mid-season, late-mid, or (almost) end of he season? Have a good one. Cheers!
@MidwestGardener4 ай бұрын
G'day! The weather had been very hot...upper 30s C. upper 90s. We are going to be a little below normal for about the next 10 days or so. We were so ready for that. We usually have our first frost in October....usually towards the end of the month, but it can be closer to the beginning of the month. We've been doing a little cleanup work already, instead of waiting until the end of the season. Have a great weekend!

Thanks! It’s quite hot here this week as well hovering around 30. 5-10 degree Celsius more than the usual. We still have a bit of winter left. Enjoy the weekend.

Sounds like you have some fairly mild winters. I wish we had one of those once in a while.

Rosella purple is the 4th & last Dwarf Tomato Project variety I'll be growing in my Zone 6A Michigan garden. The plants started off well, but got sickly early on compared to other varieties. Despite being put in the "prime real estate" of my garden where indeterminate varieties (Amana Orange, Ananas Noire) & determinate varieties (San Marzano) have been thriving this season. I took care not to crowd the plants. The Rosella purple fruit was almost always small, very irregularly shaped & at least as crack prone as Cherokee Purple. The couple of well formed decent sized fruit that I did manage to harvest did not live up to the hype at all. Overall this has been another amazing tomato & pepper season, so I can't complain, but I really thought Rosella purple would shine this year, & all it did was whimper & fizzle out LOL. I wish I could blame it on crazy weather, but our weather has been nice all season, & the garden overall has been very productive. I am glad I had the chance to try it, regardless.

Thanks for sharing how Rosella Purple did. Sure sorry it didn't' work out well for you. Sounds like the rest of them made up for it. Glad to hear that you have been having a great tomato and pepper season!

Thank you for sharing updates on your amazing garden. Always love to see how it's going. Wishing you a wonderful weekend. I am out to work in my garden but the temperature is high so not hanging out for too long.

You're welcome! Thanks for watching! I just got in from doing some work in the garden. We are about 10 degrees cooler than we have been, so that was nice. Don't work too hard.

Yours looks great! Mine is doing horribly! A two week trip leaving it unattended in 100 F temperatures has fried it. Something has been enjoying the large tomatoes and the leaves off the pepper and squash plants. I’ve got naked winter and summer squash fruit just laying there sunburned. Will have to plan my trips better next year! Will see what I can salvage this weekend.

Thanks! I sure hate to hear about the garden suffering while you were gone. That is one bad thing about being a gardener....it's make traveling a lot trickier. Really hot weather can be so hard on an unattended garden. I hope you can salvage some of it.

Oops... you are missing the "b" in September.

Thank you very much for letting me know that! I really do appreciate it! I just fixed it. I know others had to have noticed. I guess it's kind of not telling people that they have food on the face or teeth :)
