I love Emma Stone, but casting her as an Asian/Hawaiian was flabbergasting to me (personally, I would've casted Olivia Munn.) I agree that they totally wasted Bill Murray in this movie. It was a huge stretch where Bradley Cooper had to meet up with the "chief" of the Hawaiian Nation to get the okay on the project he was working for, instead of talking to the Governor of the STATE. I'm a born and bred Hawaiian -- there is no official Nation of Hawaii. I was confused with where Cameron Crowe was going with this. It seemed like he was skating a line between a realistic story and a sort of mythical-fantasy story.

***** that is completly different then this. ITs not like in this new fantasitc four movie they have Michael B Jordan come out and they say "Oh he's a white guy" In this Emma stone is playing a character they are saying is asian when she clearly isn't. So you can't compare those 2 things in this instant.
@FlyingFocs

***** that can at least be explained by adoption, and/or applies to a character not defined by a certain race. This is a character with the last name My, and stated to be at least part Asian, by an actress who couldn't pass for an Asian in Opposite World

***** White actors play real characters who were minorities all the time. In fact, minorities only made up about 13 percent of movie casts last year still. But when a black man plays a fictional character you complain? Stop trolling...

I just wanted to thank you for being here. My wife the love of my life passed away in Dec. I have been so alone and depressed but watching your reviews have helped me through the healing process and I went to my first movie in almost 2 years. I saw Furious 7 and loved it. It felt weird going to a movie alone but at least I got out of the house. Baby steps I guess. Thanks again Chris. I subscribed and I am a huge fan. My name is Steve, my wife's name was Mary Lee. I can't thank you enough. God bless you! Your friend, Steve.

I went into this movie with such low expectations but I found myself actually enjoying the movie. It has many problems but it has some moments in it that are really worth checking out. The last scene of the movie was one of the best scenes i've ever seen in cinema. Not a word spoken and yet so powerful.

Thanks for reviewing, always a joy to watch! 😊 A personal note, if you don't mind: Basically I had the same thoughts. The film has a promising concept along with fine actors and a heavenly scenery, but the team didn't manage putting that package into practice. And yep, most importantly, Stone and Cooper do not match! It happens! 🤷🏻‍♀️ Sometimes actors do a pretty nice job, but not together. I first had a feeling I just shouldn't have watched *Silver Linings* right before... because who can compete with dream-team Cooper-Lawrence?! 😁 Now, the two leads tried their best here to create the Arrwww-moments we expect from a rom-com titled 'Aloha'. However, young Danielle and Bradley's finale, that sublime wordless father daughter scene, was truly emotional and way more in depth than the 100 film minutes before. Plus, the much more authentic actress in terms of love interest was Rachel McAdams, who after all managed to breath some life into her role. Cooper and her work great as always, so do her and Krasinski. Meanwhiles, Emma Stone looks just pleased playing herself with a cap on! Besides the lacking chemistry issue, I had much higher hopes concerning the writing... So foreseeable!!! 🙈🙈🙈🙈 ... And so kludgy at the same time! 😟 Some good old Hawaiian spirit, a few more or less legal space programs, a sarcastic yet dutiful veteran, a struggling army- marriage, a cheeky, gung-ho girl! All interesting ideas, but they don't interact. In a nutshell, what we have here is an A-list stars feel good movie with not nearly enough originality too even come close to its actors' talent. Such a waste of top-class material, too bad! ☹

I just saw it, and I was like "Man, there are some great scenes, great acting, humor etc...so why didn't I love it?" And it's exactly like Chris said: Coherence. Things were just thrown onto the screen which made it incredibly difficult to not only follow what was going on but also what was the purpose of the scenes and even the characters. Maybe some people will be able to follow it better and enjoy it more; my best friend who came with me certainly did. I feel like some people will love this movie, but some will leave the theater completely confused.

I'm not trying to say for him to be mean. Hey Chris, thanks for the review. You should address a few of your recent videos having commentators commenting on the discrepancies in your grading system and rotten tomatoes' fresh or not system. You could go on a rant stating that these grades are arbitrary and that the thing that actually matters in a review is the actual content of the review and the relations between the speaker's bias and its audience's. But, the very least, you should just tell them what many other commentators told them which is rotten tomatoes has only two ratings while your ratings has room for great, good, mediocre, awful and etc. I think they need to hear it from you, as apparently, they follow your every word. But passive-aggressiveness aside, I like your work.

Haven't seen Aloha, but by description, it remind me of his earlier Elizabethtown. In that one, the lead is a wunderkind whose project who went downhill and brought him with it, but was appreciated long after the initial release. I think he thought the movie would follow the same arc, and it just hasn't. Every trailer I've seen shows me Elizabethtown in Hawaii, and I don't want to see that.

I kinda liked Aloha, I guess i've only seen it the 1 time I saw it in the cinema but I went in thinking this apparently is a bad movie but it's Cameron Crowe and I liked Elizabethtown which is also meant to be a bad movie so it should be at least okay. I'm not entirely sure it's as in cohesive as you say it is, the Hawaiian culture may seem like it's tacked on at face value but it seemed to me that it paralleled a lot of the plot of the movie, it's a film that's basically about integrity and the whole Hawaiian culture is used throughout the movie to beat Bradley Coopers character over the head with it, at first it's something that he has very little respect for and doesn't take it at all seriously, he just thinks they want Cellphone service or can be bought off but they have integrity like Emma Stones character and when he learns that the satellite being launched into space has weapons on it he's conflicted... I guess.

The satellite scene was ridiculous but the build up romance between Emma and Bradley was really great. I forgot I was watching a movie. In my opinion, better than Bogart and McCall in Key Largo. Hey, I really liked this movie!!! Yes, it has some disjointed stories going on, but to me this made the show. Our modern lives can be really disjointed... Cooper and Stone were two people at dead ends in their lives who needed each other. Maybe they'll work out, maybe not, but they were good for each other at that point in time.... well I could justify why I liked it, but bottom line is that it was a good show. Not a epic show, but I think a lot better than how you rated it.

Chris, I dont know what movie you saw, but I thought it was a great movie for it being a recent box office flop. Emma Stone best work to date(havent seen Birdman). I agree with the Bill Murray comment thou, he should of have had better and more frequent scenes. Crowe's movies are different, this is no exception, but still loved it just the same. This would be my second favorite movie from him, with Jerry Maguire being #1.

It's very weird for me to be right about a movie but from just reading the synopsis from Wikipedia I could tell this was not going to be very good. But when u saw the trailer a part of me really wanted to like this movie. Maybe for Emma stone most likely for Emma stone but it just couldn't reach the bar and expectations I put forth.

I must agree with you man. I expected so much for this movie. And I expected something they didn't bring on the movie.

A movie named "Aloha" that had undertones of tradition/rituals regarding Hawaii sprinkled in felt out of place?
