I actually experienced culture shock for the first time when I had to tip on the first day of my vacation in the states. In my country tipping isn’t common at all so when we had to tip $30 (which can buy 5 meals where I’m from not even kidding) we were like NANIII???!! after a few days I understood why though & tipped regularly

OMG this is so relatable i keep getting annoyed when applying for internships as an international student and end up meeting all of the qualifications except not being a US citizen / lawful permanent resident!!
@calpoly1234564 жыл бұрын
I’m in the tech industry and I can tell you a big % of people working in tech in the US are on visas. FANG(Facebook, Amazon, Netflix, Google) companies are good examples where they help sponsor international students for employment. It’s not just FANG but a lot of the big companies do. Another way is gong through 3rd party recruiting agencies or consulting . Keep trying and applying , I know a friend of mine who was an international student at the time got an offer with NASA. Many of the big US companies do prioritize hiring permanent residents , at the same time they want all-around talent to fill numerous open positions. Good luck !
As an American it really surprised me when you mentioned how you had a glorified view of the US before coming here. A lot of us don't like living in America and would love living somewhere else, so it really is that idea of the grass is always greener on the other side.

I never studied abroad as an undergrad and honestly I wish I did. However, because I was a transfer student I really had to just catch up on courses. That being said, I have been able to travel and see diff countries but i do feel like being able to study abroad will allow you to know a diff country's culture a lot better! Im so so sorry about the sponsor and the internship situation. A lot of my international students had that struggle :(

Omg the power wattage or voltage whatsoever is sooo relatable! I am not an IS, but I have the means of getting good priced items from the US bc taxes, taxes, taxes! It is actually much more cheaper there (provided that u pay a service like USPS, Fedex, etc.) rather buying online or in store. So far, I only have some items n that includes a fast charger which btw have caused a thunder bolt (that’s exaggeration ofc) n almost electrocuted me! It’s obvious points but sometimes u forget it. Anyway, nice video as always! I don’t often go there but I follow you on insta! ^^ Edit: 16:52 is soo cute! I definitely like some aspects of korean culture too, but I don’t go overboard. And lemme tell you - they are indeed expressive! My friend would go from cutesy to instant wrestler voice bc she’s talking in her dialect (from Busan) but reverts back to cuteness when other people approach her. It’s ironic and fun!
@yoola28034 жыл бұрын
Ugh, I hate myself already for giving u a boring paragraph but, that “kaya mo yan” so so cute! You don’t sound fluent, but not pretentious at the same time, I like that. (whispers; I’ve watched ur Tagalog/filipino video. does this make me a fan? 😅🤣) anyyyway, I noticed your favourite word or abbreviation? Idek at this point 🤦♀️ is LOL. It’s iconic! And that makes you a Filipino. Cheers I’ve blabbed too much, my bad. Have a nice night! ^^

I have a question for international students (which I don't know if this is the best place to put it, but well), do you ever mix your native language with the language of the country you are studying in? For example, during note-taking or planning essays, like not being able to express an idea in the foreign language, but being able to do it in your native one ... (I am not an international student, but a lot of the material I refer to at this point of my career is in English and sometimes my brain gets really confused during reading papers in English and trying to take notes. I don't know if doing it in English or Spanish and when I realise, I have a bunch of combined notes in both languages)

Good to know you’re back home safe!🥰 Also, I was wondering whether there is a huge difference in teaching methods/examination methods in US schools (especially in the ivy) compared to Philippine schools? I know that education in the PH is not known to be astoundingly great internationally, so I was curious to see in what areas of teaching is completely new to you as an international student. Love from Cebu, PH❤️
@KatieTracy4 жыл бұрын
hey karyl!! I've definitely heard they're different too. I can't speak 100% on PH schools bc I'm not enrolled (ofc haha) but I hear some differences are: 1) schedule: PH students have longer days, more credits, and are with the same people in "blocks". At my US university it's super flexible and I have different people in every class. 2) education style: my PH friends have told me they have to do a lot of memorization of facts vs. in the US the emphasis is on critical thinking and problem solving (so it's more discussion-heavy). 3) culture, climate etc.: adjusting to the US alone is an exciting adventure! for me I got to experience a new culture, winter seasons, and grow independently by studying abroad on my own. :)
