I bought a Calathea White Fusion because of yours, despite my mixed track record with Calatheas and their reputation for being high maintenance. The grower had a few small ones for $5, so I figured it was worth the risk!

Loved your upsizing/revamp video! I’m eager to follow your journey with anthuriums in LECA. I’m going to give LECA a try the next time I buy one as tree fern soil/soil is NOT working for me. If LECA doesn’t work, then I’m done with anthuriums….

Not sure what your experience with Anthuriums in LECA is, but I got my first Anthurium from the Ecuagenera pop-up at NHG back in June. After letting it acclimate for a month, I transitioned it from moss to LECA. Even though I was careful with root cleaning and nutrients, it started to decline with yellowing leaves. After a month of this, I switched it to a chunky pon mix - best decision ever! The roots are thriving, and I finally got my first new leaf (besides the one that was hardening when I bought it). I’ve since moved my two PlantCon Anthuriums to the same mix, and they’re doing great with no stress or root issues.

If you take care of them right, they can get pretty massive. They are rhizome based plants after all so they like to spread.

The problem with a pole that has nothing in it is you can’t do a chop and extend, with moss or some other medium there is an entire root structure inside the pole so when you chop the top pole it’s already fully rooted, technically you don’t need a pot. I know you dont like moss poles but you’ve never said why. There isn’t any other way to get a plant to full maturity without it, just a support won’t get it there. We disagree on poles but I love your content. ❤
@AlohaPlantLife
@AlohaPlantLife 3 ай бұрын
We don’t disagree. Everything you said is correct, but my goal isn’t to grow them to maturity as fast as possible so I’m fine with doing the longer process of air layering in order to chop in extend.💚

Drea, remember my weird growing leggy black velvet Alocasia ? Maaaaaan its down to 3 leaves 😢 Do you sell black velvet? And don't Alocasias do bad in the winter months?🤔 (Or so I've heard)
@aingealtara1479
@aingealtara1479 3 ай бұрын
.. My Alocasia used to drop most every leaf down to only having two left.. Then two years ago I got so frustrated that I removed all the soil and gave him a pot with nothing but Leca, a bucket as a cover pot and a lot of water and then I left him alone.. After that, no more leaf dropping but growing like nothing else.. He was potted up last year, again, and still in the same bucket for cover.. I give him a lot of water (about 1 liter), keeping him moist and leave him alone.. I only keep the leaves clean from dust just about once a month.. He's happy and thrives, and I'm still wondering what it was all about..
@Kelly_Silverman
@Kelly_Silverman 3 ай бұрын
@@aingealtara1479 Thank you for your response! When you say a bucket as a cover pot, what exactly do you mean by that? Like covering the plant with the bucket to increase humidity? Or do you mean that you put lecca in a bucket and potted him that way?
@aingealtara1479
@aingealtara1479 3 ай бұрын
@@Kelly_Silverman.. I gave him a bigger pot, and since I don't have a cover pot I simply used an empty bucket that I had from worm casting.. The pot fitted perfectly in there.. The pot itself has drainage as other ordinary pots, otherwise I would have water all over the floor.. My Alocasia is living in my household with ordinary humility high, low or somewhere in between depending on the weather.. If summer is good and not storming, I leave him outside in the shade from my butterfly bush from May until last day in October.. Just before the first frost.. Only water he gets is the rain.. And he loves it..
