The whole of Dhaka isn’t like this, you are in one of the poorest places. You could go to Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara to see the developed places where people drive Rolls Royce’s. Also there’s absolutely 0 chances for your food or drinks to get spiked here, you misunderstood him. Also the chances of you getting scammed here is very slim, people don’t do that here unlike lndia. also it’s relatively safe, unless you go to places where you are not suppose to be out maybe do out at 3am and get unlucky. People will approach you all the time and ask you where you are from, all out of being intrigued, hospitable and friendly, nothing to be scared. Also avoid giving the people money who asks you for it. Also 90% folks here won’t over charge you, except the CNG guy perhaps. Also avoid drinking liquid unless it’s from a proper restaurant, and when I say proper, you’ll understand once you enter those establishments. If you want to see another side of Bangladesh, you may want to visit (Cox’s Bazar-Longest beach in the world?, (Sylhet-Lush tea gardens), (Sundarban-Largest mangrove forest in the world and home of Rock Bengal Tiger), (Saint Martin-Maldives like beach), (Bandarban-Mountain in the clouds), (Chittagong-Works largest ship breaking yard)

Dhaka metro is huge city 🌃 consist of 2167 sq km, ur in jus a tiny fraction of it in old Dhaka which is only 1% of the total area. There’s many many beautiful rich neighbourhoods in this metro city, u might think it’s in foreign country because it’s soo different than the area ur in with much less crowds & much more modern & well-maintained, for example : Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara, Bashundhara, cantonment, Dohs, nirjhor, nikhunja, Rupayan City, Jolshiri,Purbachal New Town, Dia bari & few other areas are in the list of nicest neighbourhoods in the capital city. Virtually all westerners apart from very few ventures in old Dhaka & it’s adjacent crowded areas but skip rest beach of the city. Anyway real Bangladesh 🇧🇩 lies beyond Dhaka ❤

The beetle leaf and nut is called PAAN (not repeated twice), the flat oily round bread is called a Paratha and should be available in Indian/Bangladeshi restaurants in Oz. The fruit you did not like is a variety of PLUM and some are really sweet while others are insipid. The fruit you thought were bananas are actually PLANTAINS which are used for cooking. The correct word for the people of Bangladesh is BANGLADESHIS (Pronounced - Bangla-desh-ees) It will get unbearably hot soon but at the moment it is still winter. Enjoy your stay in Bangladesh.
