I love container gardening as I'm a senior alone that has balance issues & muscle loss from Spinal Stenosis so I can't do digging or tilling so I had bought a bunch of thinner plastic mop buckets that were cheap from my Dollar Store & easy to make drainage holes on the bottom. They have strong metal handles so that's easier for me to move them around for Sun or shade or out of a downpour rain or hail & can put screen over them to keep pesky squirrels out as their very destructive. In winter I can throw everything in my garage

I think, I saw what was eating your carrot tops. It wasn't a grub! Glad to see you are getting to the basics for your garden. Simple things like raspberries, I find are finicky on growth based on elevation. Look forward to see your harvest this fall!

New subscriber here. Thank you for sharing the beauty that is Alaska with us.! I'm northern Wisconsin with the same frost dates as you, and also have raised beds, although not the huge amount of rain that you received. I've got to make mini plastic hoop houses over some crops in the beds to get a harvest. Weather patterns have gone a little crazy these last few years....

Hi Alone, Have you considered preserving some of your garden by fermenting them? While I'm not a huge leafy greens eater I do grow some Swiss chard, Malabar spinach, arugula, and kale in rail pots on my front porch (easy access) instead of the larger back garden. Just a thought... Happy gardening!

I grow Zinnia and Nasturtiums every year, they are some of my favorite flowers. I sprung for some zinnia and dahlia seeds from Floret Flower Farms this year. She cross breeds new varieties and i keep hearing how beautiful they are on some of the other KZbin channels I watch so I bought some seeds to give them a try. Floret Farms has a KZbin channel if you're interested in checking it out to see what Im talking about. I plan to save all of the seeds I get this summer. I could mail you some for next year, if you like them. About the fish fertilizer, when I had a fish tank, I would always save the dirty water to add to my flowers. They loved it! You should think about getting a little fish tank and one or two fish! 😂😊 Thanks for the video! 😊

I live in south east Michigan on the Detroit River.. zucchini grows great around here except for in my yard.. lol I’m blaming it on the cedar tree near my garden area… needles make the soil too acidic… The cedar will be coming down this summer.. it’s getting old and is planted on the corner of the house.. the needles are also destroying the roof shingles… good luck with your garden!❤

Gardening in Alaska fascinates me! I watch several Alaska channels that garden, have high tunnels, and can and store food. LOTS of work, but so awesome! We just moved and I'm setting p a new garden that will be 4 times larger than my past gardens. I have started seeds this week, and already have little green sprouts :) SO exciting!!!!! Love this time of year. Wishing you a very happy growing season..

There are folks that use their old urine. If you pee in a bucket and let it sit for a week, the nitrogen does glorious things to the soil.

I would be interested in watching you do your recipe for Kohlerabi. That vegee is rarely ever been mentioned or seen in recipes or cookbooks so a Video of that would be phenomenal especially because sooo many people have not even been familiar with that word or what it is or what it even looks like and what the heck to do with them or how to make/prepare them & what they go good with. I've never even seen a KZbin video about anyone dehydrating or freezing or canning them. You could probably title the video something catchy that people would click on from curiosity. Like..."The Available Unoticed Mystery Vegetable ". " Why"???? People would wanna know or try guessing they know & vegetarians definitely would wanna know & other KZbin Creators would then give them the idea of doing videos about them & recipes using them. A video like that could very well go viral. People wanna know. Hurry so that nobody steals this idea. I would love you to go super viral & make lotsa $$$$ for all your future projects & your soooo good at explaining things to everyone!

Great talk . I have Ron and Johanna's book on how to survive off grid ( Yukon) , just haven't read it yet. Moving soon (May/June) to build in UP Michigan , surrounded by cedars , so, yeah, oh the acid. . There is a computer program now that's like the tech version of Farmer's Almanac. Planting schedules, PH , water, zones . Pest protocols, It's all there . Interesting. Can't conjure the name at the moment, though. I just won a BRUTAL mice war, don't get me started on what that invader was. I suggest trail cams. As If you don't already have like, uh, five already. Maybe Ermines do eat veggies? I do a lot of dehydration . You don't need a fancy machine, just hang it. I'm cutting back a lot on tomatoes, potatoes, (nightshades! ) and red peppers because new med studies say they trash your gut biome , hence inflammation pain, brain fog, etc. Problem is I was raised in NY on Italian food. Yeah we'll have Bigfoot too, as well as wolves and wolverines, No peace in the barnyard... Do folks do ok with 'shrooms up there? Totally my new thing.
