In his defense though: didn't yall wanted men to especially show more vulnerability and emotion?... and isn't that exactly what this modern-day Diomedes has done by putting himself and his cake on the line and showing the world how all the responses made him feel?? Or did you just want men to show more vulnerability and emotionality when it serves you? In that case I would argue that you can't have your cake and eat it too... haha! (See what I did there?) And uhm... you especially can't just go ahead and help yourself to _another_ serving of said doubly entendred cake that you ended up not liking anyway when push came to shove. 👀 (Let's not talk about the weird white, hypermasculine, hyperaesthetic, dominant, homoerotic, Nazi chapter in this video though, to which contemporary Diomedes may or may not have a connection (that part was unclear to me) because YIKES!...)

I think his failure also highlights that the new generation not only has zero cooking and baking ability (don't @ me if you are anomaly and proving the rule) but also how so many of them don't understand how much they would need to learn to master even basic kitchen skills. This is why the redpill guys who can't cook are so incredulous as to how many "modern women" can't cook. When I was young, the society was set up to make it easy for us to learn these things. We all took Home Ec, and when I was a child it was the most common major in college for women (yes, you could getyour MRS degree!). Now- do you even know where to go for a cooking class that isn't at Sur la Table catering to rich yuppies? No. Even community colleges have given up on cooking and baking classes recreationally. The only real option for learning these skills from a person is to enroll in culinary school and pay a huge fee or incur debt, and not everyone who wants basic adult skills necessarily wants to work in a restaurant. It's easy to condemn anyone for not having skills when you also don't have them and don't know what it takes to get them. I have been cooking since I was 8 and now at 55 I am still learning.

@@Jeremy-yp8eh in this context I’d disagree, as it involves dishonest about which one he was motivated by. He’s feigning that his motivation was to give her a cake she wanted but whether or not she does or doesn’t like the cake wasn’t something he actually cared about, the end goal for this cake was for him to get to feel a certain way about himself and for her to be the one that allowed him to feel it. How she actually felt was irrelevant, he expected her to ignore her own feelings of disappointment/not feeling valued in order for her to he him feel valued. She’s being asked to appreciate an effort he made for himself, not for her. He set out with a selfish goal in mind but is now trying to get her shamed for being the “selfish” one. He’s being deceptive and manipulative. If this guy had sincerely been trying to do something for her, how she felt would’ve been what defined success or failure, his concern would’ve been with failing to meet her expectations. Trying to feel appreciated should not be something you acquire through disingenuous acts of “selflessness” and then having a tantrum using the premise that your selflessness isn’t being appreciated… when it was NEVER selflessness.
@jeepsa20518 ай бұрын
@@Jeremy-yp8eh It is wrong in this case because THE goal in making that cake was to collect gratitude. It wouldn't have been as much of an issue if he made it with the genuine feeling of wanting to do something for your S/O AND get appreciated on the way. Former situation is for yourself, and yourself *only*, while latter is for your partner and yourself. Huge difference. Wanting appreciation in and of itself, devoid of any context isn't a bad thing. The thing I dislike about the situation is that his gesture was transactional. He was expecting to be praised and touted as this fantastic, thoughtful guy who remembered a dessert she likes. He "baked" the cement cake because he wanted the praise, her enjoyment of the cake was secondary (if it was even a consideration). It reminds me of the dads who get their wife some random bath set or tacky earrings for Mother's Day and then feel butt-hurt when she's not over the moon about a gift that was given as an obligation with no consideration or care.

Honestly, I think he went into this with good intentions . Having this idea in his head of making her happy and seeing her smile. Only for him to fail miserably. Since he's never done this before. Then his embarrassment and shame melted into anger with a dash of misogyny. I think that men get so butt hurt over people not appreciating the gift. Because they are frustrated at not being good at something they've had little to no practice in. Getting a good gift for some one is a tricky thing. That requires attention, intuition, a little practice, and a little luck. The right response is to learn from your failure. Look at what you did wrong. And try to do better in the future. But its so much easier to just become bitter. And say Fuck these Hoes, I'm gonna focus on myself and my career!

I was shocked to see the Think Before You Sleep guy weigh in on this story at 10:18 **against** the boyfriend. He usually leans more pro-guy so this really means the bf was wrong 😅 Cooking may be art, but baking is science . You simply cannot omit ingredients or get creative. I have had people ask me for a recipe and then tell me it didn't turn out right. When I asked a few questions I found out that they subbed applesauce for sour cream or flaxseed gel for eggs. Many people know so little about baking that they don't realize that they don't know enough. You need some base knowledge to understand that you still have a lot to learn.

But we’re supposed to pretend to like a tie? Women never do things on a transactional basis? Had the baker been a woman and the man was the one who rejected it, what would your reaction be to this story?
@1108-g1q8 ай бұрын
@colonialstraits1069 When I was a child a tie was an appropriate gift. There were several reasons for this. One is that the wife was less likely to work and make her own money.And if she did work she earned far less than her husband. Two, a tie was much more likely to get use than it is today. Three, there simply were not nearly as many options to choose from. Televisions were meant for only one room of the home and were a big ticket purchase like a car that no one would think to make a gift or surprise without a family discussion. So ties/cufflinks or that new stand mixer for her were both considered good gifts. But today, if someone were to give a man a tie I would say that the person Is lazy and doesn't care. It's time to start expecting more out of the people in our lives.

This was before the guilt tripping for what he did for me and minimization of me was laid on thick. I told him that I liked to have an ice cream cake for my birthday and hadn't had a good one in a while, and honestly birthdays are hard for me. He got me a grocery store ice cream cake and put it in the refridgerator. When we went to eat it it was an inedible mess. Another year he got me a real Dairy Queen cake and drove with the a/c on to keep it cold, but treated me like I owed him for being nice. The next year? He broke up with me before my birthday and came to pick his shit up the day before my burthday and told me he had forgotten it was my birthday. We had been together 6 years. I am so terrified of someone being nice to me in the future and only finding out later it was all an act again.

I love that the one person's tweet compares a man failing to bake a cake to a woman not being able to follow the plot of a movie.... I feel like that was also very telling of that person's perception of effort and women's intelligence. It's interesting to see so many men rip the cake guy apart for this and so many women pacify him... To me, baking is easier than cooking because every step is clearly explained and there isn't really a need for imagination so I would assume a logical natural leader of a man would find it pretty straight forward lol I also would never feed someone else a first try. Don't people usually test out a recipe before making it for someone? This was a funny story

@jlspracher I was thinking along the lines of "logical, left brained, no pansy artsy bs" type guy because that's what he strikes me as. Now that's some one-dimensional "logic". Both in cooking and baking, depending on what you make, there are techniques and physics involved a f*ck ton of recipes don't even properly address or cover. There were so many steps to take before that. He sounds deeply insecure and sensitive, but he’s telling himself that he’s stoic and aloof. And I think that’s a common problem with men like this because they can’t stand the thought that they’re emotional bc thats not “masculine” so they pretend their sensitivity is actually stoicism. Then they don’t address any of their unhealthy coping mechanisms and grow emotionally

You know, when you have men who would rather speak to a tree or swing from it than expose their feeling to a woman one more time, it should tell you it's women who can't be trusted with men's feelings. And if men can't trust women with their feelings, why should they care about women's feelings? Especially since the world demands men always put women's feelings first.

My grandmother taught me how to cook, and that was years ago because she's dead and im 26 now. I enjoyed it, and even took years of culinary classes in highschool. Passed with flying colors. She did teach me though that back then most women were lazy and didn't know how to cook, so i had to learn. Now as an adult, i can conclude this to be 50/50 true. Some do, some dont. My ex couldn't cook a cup of noodles with a microwave 🤣, but my gf now makes the best food. I genuinely cook now because im just a picky eater. As for men now, some can and some cant cook. I refuse to starve, so im happy i can with fluidity.

Show yourself a Strawberry whatever that looks better than last time The littlest amount of effort isn't enough to keep a relationship, a "masculine man" should know that 🤷♂️

Honestly if a guy presented me something like this I would become suspicious. If he said that something happened to it that messed it up it would be completely fine but putting no effort into making it look edible is just so off to me. If you’re already making a cake it’s really easy not to make it look terrible. I’d wonder why he even did that or what he’d put in it.

He should have just gone to a bakery. One of my favourite memories is an ex who went out of his way (it was far for him) to buy me cake from my favourite bakery at the time. Baking is hard and an art. I don't want someone putting in effort in baking when it is just as easy to buy. Cooking is also not easy but easier to master than baking.

I was in a similar situation where I tried cooking 3 dishes from a different cuisine and it turned out be mid/bad. I ate it and only told my ex after she asked me what I had done that weekend. I think it's fine to put in effort and fail. I think it's also fine when you don't recognize that your results have been bad. The important part is that you genuinely care for the happiness of your partner which Diomedes clearly doesn't.
