I came back to MTG when WAR released (I learned how to play from RTR -> JOU) and I truly believe I would have been burnt out (again) if it were not for stumbling upon your channel. I initially watched your box openings for “Crunchy Gordita tacos slap me in the face,” However, now that I’m older and more self-aware, I quickly started watching your visor videos - if The Command Zone and The Commander’s Quarters rekindled my love for the gameplay and deck building, your mixture of entertainment and education refined my appreciation (and sometimes my concern) for the psychology behind MTG and the different communities that build around it. There are so many things I want to address, but I believe the most succinct way for describing how I’ve absorbed your channel and content is: I was not surprised when you said you have the largest position in America for C19 - I’m very relieved, happy, and (slightly) optimistic for the future of Magic because I am hopeful that most of your Patreons and subscribes understand the different layers of your content. Thank you for sharing your ideas. As I’ve watched your channel and the way Magic products have changed (to mirror elements crucial in videogame sales and casinos), it is also not a surprise that Commander is the most popular format - the social nature of it means that all 4 investor/budget types in your video are still able to play and be competitive within their own pods.

Make more videos like this. It's great. Would love to see some targeted more specifically at people with more of a background in the area. I don't have much knowledge of economic or financial jargon, but it's mostly just mathematics (statistics/probability, rates of change and covariant items, differential equations). I do have a background in physics, so economics/finance should be easy to pick up. Any recommendations for reading or online lecture series?

I literally thought about this today as I was wondering overall career change and the future. My thought was Khans(have a case already)/Kaleshesh type was the way to go because of the shorter time frames for growth, versus the longer period for easy money of current in print boxes. On top of the BBC talking about mid life career change, I feel like the universe is speaking to me today. Rudy I am a Financial Adviser in Canada (If you could ship to Canada I would be buying the standard sets every month) any who I just wanted to say you are 100% right, in the Canadian stock market we legalized weed last year and the weed stocks went wild, anyone who told me to invest in them on their behalf I straight up called a Timmy. Rudy, from the outside of magic looking in, what happens when a market is primarily made of investors and there is actually no, or little, consumer base? it seems possible, especially on the old sets of magic, that no one is actually buying cases to crack them and instead everyone is just buying and selling as an investor

Those facts do no matter. Because no matter what, Sealed product that is opened cannot be reverted back into sealed. And with the theory of time you HAVE to assume that some are being opened, lost, broken, forgotten about, etc. So it does not matter if people are buying to invest as opposed open.

So, what's your take on boxes/sets that may be 1-5 years old and haven't yet appreciated, but are still regularly being sold at $80-90? (Looking at you Hour of Devastation) Sometimes these products will continue to stagnate further with no motion (RTR/Gatecrash/Dragon's Maze sure as heck didn't double in 5 years).
@nobodyman48335 жыл бұрын
I'd like to hear his take on that too.
@legendren1605 жыл бұрын
nobody man So far, I’ve bought a few of those boxes because they’re cheap enough right now to a point they can’t really come down much more. Basically any box that falls under $72 a box is a “why not”? So far, it’s been okay. I’m not complaining on my RTR/Gatecrash I picked up a year ago at $65-70 each. I’m just wondering what picture I’m missing on “buy low now, it can only go up!” when many sets now initially whiff and go on sale shortly after printing stops.

I was (and probably still am) a captain timmy of some sort. I got into mtg around the mirrorin-kamigawa standard and left somewhere before the kamigawa-ravnica standard rotated out. I bought a crap ton of tournament standard cards, because i loved making different top 8 decks, and i hated swapping cards around. It did not matter that i had 2 hands, and had no way to play with 8 expensive decks. Recently, i got back into MTG, in time for eldraine ... and as for my cards. All of them tanked in value. They tanked so hard, i could have been bankrupt if i seriously invested position on them. The only cards i had that were clear winners were: Sensei’s divining top - appreciated to more than 100% Azusa, lost but seeking (which i put in the crap rares bucket) - appreciated to more than 1000% of its value (i only had 2 cause i gave away the rest back then lol) Dark Confidant - appreciated to 200% of its value. I only kept a set of them cause i couldnt make an orzhov deck work back then. The rest of my collection are crap rares now, and i dnt see them appreciating ever... the good news is, i cant imagine them tanking lower than they already are lol Meloku, the clouded mirror for lower than 50 Cents? I doubt it lol

Then they get mad when my collection went from $10k to $30k but that's because I bought lands back in 2008 and they want to have the same gains but in 1 year.
