For people wanting to do some independent reading in finance, I'd recommend tracking down some old CFA books. Find ones published within the last 5-10 years though just so they aren't that dated. They're pretty inexpensive and have a good summary of lots of important topics. Just the first exam set (6 books, although I wouldn't bother with the ethics book unless you're actually sitting for the exams) is a great start and probably around 200 hours of reading. A nice thing about it is that it doesn't require prerequisite knowledge in business / finance / econ. They are written for people who are just starting to get into business and finance and set a solid groundwork for learning finance on your own. The sets are pretty cheap because the CFA institute requires the newest year's version for anybody taking these things, so they are immediately out of date, so for example, you can pick up a set of CFA level 1 books from 2014 for super cheap at a used book store.

Rudy, you talked a lot about cash flow and debt and stuff in this video. I've struggled most of my life with debt and money. Between watching your channel, and recently reading some Dave Ramsey books, I have become more aware of what happens with my money and what needs to be done. I'm extremely intrigued by investing (stocks and Magic), even picked up some cards that I predict will spike. I just wanted to say thank you for your enlightening information and for being a cool, wonderful person.

Rudy, this was a great video to give people a lot of good life advice on getting their financial situation in check, and then expanding into various investment avenues, Magic Cards included. Great info!!! A lot of people give you a hard time cause you're hoarding all the "Good" cards and the "old stuff," but honestly if you enjoy having them in your collection then why not? I have many cards myself, and lots of old video games, toys, and anime figures (an entire room is devoted to this stuff in my home) I dunno if you'll ever find a buyer for 250 Baazars of Baghdad's at $4000 each someday, but it seems like it's not a bad long term investment as long as the demand is there for Magic The Gathering. (BTW do you remember Star Wars the Collectable Card Game? Wizards bought the game from Decipher and tanked the game in 2001...but the cards are still worth something, AIternate Image Darth Maul Foil is worth like $125 - $150. There is still a market for these even though the original game is dead. I have about 4 binders worth of these...but these "reserve list, cancelled set cards" are not for sale, I'm sorry Rudy, you can't have mine, lol www.ebay.com/itm/Star-Wars-CCG-Coruscant-AI-Alternate-Image-Darth-Maul-Young-Apprentice/173316273488?epid=1765018753&hash=item285a747550:g:Or4AAOSwZrJaiCys&frcectupt=true

I knew a guy who won 2.2$ million in the lotto, he invested 1.2 million and lived of about 2k interest a week. I was also in the position of earning 60k in 6 months at 19 doing a job I never should have had. Unfortunately I never had a mentor like Rudy could be, so I squandered it. Someone may hear of your success, appear happy for you, know how you should invest it, but not tell you how to do so, or worse, tell you to waste it on shit. That 60k lost 40% of its buying power in 2 years due to currency murder, had someone told me anything about finance I could have prepared for that, luckily what doesnt kill you make you mean and bitter, but also shrewd and cunning and able to survive when it comes to the currency driven world we live in today.

Rudy, you should write the book. Also, if you're just looking for companies that would just be able to pay the bills. Wouldn't it be good to look for companies that have been around forever? Nintendo for instance has been around for like 127 years because they keep war chests. Other similar companies as well.
@Nanofuture87
@Nanofuture87 7 жыл бұрын
They're called blue chip stocks. Rather than Nintendo though, think more like General Electric: a massive company that makes products that everyone uses or at least recognizes. Having cash is nice, but as an investor you want profit. Japanese companies in particular have a bad habit of ignoring problems due to the culture over there.
@Eteric
@Eteric 7 жыл бұрын
Nanofuture87 I see, but according to Rudy it really doesn't matter so long as they can keep the lights on. GE was another company that I had thought of as well. Ford and others (since the gov won't let it fall) seem like decent picks as well. Thanks for the response! Is there another place I can get more info from?

Rudy if there is not a set book out there that explains how to handle investments why dont you write one? Doesn't have to be scholarly, it can just be autobiographical telling your investment story, and strategies/lessons you picked up along the way. Hell you can even relate it back to Magic by sharing how you entered that market, im sure that would be a unique story in contrast to most investment autobiographies.

Nin Win no, bonds are rated as either premium, par or discount. The rating of the bond is determined by its Yield to maturity and the coupon yield. The value Is not determined by the likely hood of them to pay off the bond, it's the speed at which the bond matures, the faster the maturity, the lower the total amount of interest payments, and the higher the profitability of the bond. If YTM>coupon yield it is a discount bond, if YTM

HobbyStop, Even if all that is true, the default rate of junk bonds is 4.22% and you cannot know if your investments are going to be the ones that tank and %6 yield is QUITE high for a corporate bond. Are you saying that YTM and risk have no relation to one another? Isn't the fact that you have to be able to hold the bond to maturity a risk factor?
