Don't wanna sound like some smart ass, but debt kind of reminds me of the discovery of fire. Those that fear it and don't learn about it stay away from it deeming it too dangerous and unpredictable but don't evolve, those that do dare to try and use it to their advantage either get burned by it whether by misusing/abusing it or become all powerful when they learn to harness it and create a harmonious balance within the cycle. Fascinating how much we can relate the concepts of business/finance with everyday life

Rudy is exactly right on this. I built a on-the-side eCommerce business (not MTG related) out of pocket, but, had we of taken out credit ASAP, we would of been a lot further ahead now. That said, there is a major trade off to consider, the risk of taking out that much credit on a startup is also very high. Had we of not been successful (most business), then I would of regretted taking out credit only to have to pay it back. So to anyone thinking about this, just remember, there is risk both ways. Go the route that suites your appetite for risk. I am not unhappy with our decision at the time, but, in hindsight, given that we did succeed, we would of been better off now if we took out a credit line.

So someone with 10 million is assets could take on 2 million of debt on margin at 1.9% then find people to loan money to at 6-8% then profit off the percentage difference. Reminds me of one guy I knew who would take out all the cash on 30 credit cards at 0%APR for a year, dump it all into CD's for a year, pay the minimums for they year, pay off the debt when CD's mature and profit on the CD's interest rate.

Debt in the private sector has traditionally been discouraged because people generally are not taking debt to make money. The average person's debt lies in paying for a car or house, neither of which are actively making money. Debt to make money is smart if you know what you are doing (especially give our extremely low interest rates in the US).
@UT91490
@UT91490 6 жыл бұрын
The reason why you have less debt if you are a bigger company and taking on more debt, people (bank, brokerage) loaning you the money can dictate what you spend it on. Just like a donation to a not-for-profit can be restricted. Plus in a liquidation, debt gets paid out 1st then preferred stock and if anything left over (usually not) goes to common stock owners. Plus they rate you on debt worthiness before they lend anyway.

Easy. Q: Why are interest rates lower for bigger loans? A: Because the total interest $ from a big loan will always be greater than that of a small loan, no matter what the interest rate is at! It doesn't matter if the interest rate is high or low. If they borrow more money, then you make more in interest. Period.

My grandpa had a saying he would remind me of every now and then. "Un metro de mostrador es mas mejor que un buen trabajador" which roughly translates to a "display case is better than a hard worker". He basically encouraged us to be our own boss and run a business than to work a 9-5 in someelses business
@guymontag2325

emachine310 which is sad because nowadays capitalism gravitates towards consolidation and increasing efficiency/mitigating risk by joining the higher power. The moment Walmart comes into small town is the day you start the clock for all mom and pop stores who can't fight a huge national entity that can take a loss for many months. And less than 20% new companies survive past 5 years as the self employment continuously falls in favor of the corporate culture. I've seen it in my city as one of the main streets that was a colorful mosaic of stores and businesses slowly descended into boring lane with 40 banks. Guess who pays higher rent. Also large malls entered the game and over time less people were their own bosses...

because if your worth 10M in liquid assets (which they'd need to be for the IR your referring to - post Dodd Frank see how they treat someone worth 10M in houses they rent out)and if you take out 2M in a loan it'd be very easy for your to pay it back if shit hits the fan. Also its the cost of doing business. The points on 2M pays far more bills of the lender then the points on a small loan. Also the way loans work (making 1-6% per loan) means if they get it wrong they need to get it right 20 - 100 times just to make up for that one wrong bet.

I think there is a fundamental aspect being missed in this video and that it's based on everyone who is successful, but what about all the people who went into debt and failed? We don't hear about them because they failed, it's a common problem with businesses looking at people who take risks, the ones who reap the largest reward are the people that take risks but they are also equally more likely to lose out very heavy and the successful risk takers are around 3% of the population, maybe it's just me but i'd rather take the slow and steady, sure-fire, smart investments rather than risk it and lose it all because I wasn't that 3%.

Unfourtunalty most people have very low financial literacy and don't understand appropriate economic vehicles. I'll ask everyone this theoretical question. If you won the lottery say 10 million dollars and you were faced with how to collect would you take a lump sum of 5 million and loose half in taxes or would you take small monthly installments over 35 years and retain most of your winnings. Some people can probably guess he right answer but can you explain why?
@joeortiz5512
@joeortiz5512 6 жыл бұрын
Randy Wong take the lump, and invest? Time value of money, 10mil now isn't 10mil in the future. Also compounding interest will outpace the immediate tax hit taken.
@guymontag2325
@guymontag2325 6 жыл бұрын
You are falling into the trap of assuming there is an objectively correct answer. Such examples were often incorrectly used to prove poor people are terrible at managing their money because they would often take instant cash over small long term payoff. But it all depends on the circumstances. For example a person with no reserves who is in need of an expensive operation, needs new car to continue perform their job, has to move sooner than later because their home town is a rusting trap with no perspectives or wants to send their children to a good school would take the hit with no remorse, there is a lot of people who would not have a luxury to pick better long term solution.
@rwong13
@rwong13 6 жыл бұрын
From my circumstances I would take the instant cash hands down. With proper investments that produce decent dividends, taking half a payout would out pace a slow payout in the end. From my personal experience having cash in hand gives you more access to better opportunities in the future. Now someone that takes the lump sum and spends it on depreciating asset is another thing all together.

Hey, in my American History class last year we learned about how early America leveraged debt so that other countries would have a stake in their well being. They would borrow from a country such as France and then France wouldn't want England to destroy America because they had a stake in it. It's sort of like buying shares in a company. When you borrow money from a bank, they are buying your shares, and when you deposit money, you are buying there's. You believe that the bank is a good company to invest in because the only way you can lose money is if your bank gets wiped out. A point I think you should explore farther is the kind if debt you want, and in what sort of situation. As AgonifyeR24 stated, debt to buy consumables is bad and debt to increase income is good. If you have no money, you shouldn't go borrow a bunch of money and sit back on it living la vida, but instead use that money to make money. You can't make money without having money first. Many people see loans such as credit cards as just numbers on a screen and that's how they rack u so much credit card debt (This is a bad debt most of the time because it is usually spent on everyday things such as food, gas, and maybe even gifts). And I just realized that I am not a financial professional, but a 14 year old boy. OOF

Let me complete that title for you : Leverage and debt is how wealth is created for a small percentage while the majority works for the man. Because we can't all be investors while no one does the dirty work for cheap
@tylerchambers6246
@tylerchambers6246 2 жыл бұрын
Correctimundo! You're absolutely right, Rud. has said so himself in multiple videos. The "dirty work" is for the cogs in the machine to do, whose only purpose is to move around the wealth produced by the smart investors so as to keep the economic machinery oiled up and flowing, sort of like how red blood cells move oxygen around through the body to all the actually important bits, ya know, the organs and stuff. Sorry to say, but that is what most people are: the cogs, the red blood cells. Not the brain. Not even the lungs. Hell, not even the spleen or gall bladder! And these cogs are actually happy to be cogs, in their bovine innocence. They don't want anything greater for themselves because if they were capable of thinking of something greater, they wouldn't be cogs in the first place. They are happy to labor their thoughts away (their thoughts are troubling for them anyway, good riddance) and sit in front of the TV and fall asleep at the end of the day, maybe throw in a little browsing the internet or something. Sounds nasty to say all of this but it is the reality, it has always been the reality, and it is going to continue being the reality until the end of the time.

One question Rudy: when you said "when mom is done making meatloaf". But when is a mom ever really done making meatloaf? I think you just gave me a new catch phrase.

Creepy Rudy dodged a bullet, being outside the community like he is. Smart. That's what Creepy Rudy is... Very smart.

My goal for 2018 is to work on my credit as much as I can. My mother spent the last 7 or so years tanking my credit by using my name without me knowing. Really I just wanna get my credit to where if someone checks it they don't go "lol no" and if I can do that I think ill have done better in life.

It's not discounted as such just relative. 2% on 2 million is better for the fiancée then 10 - 15 % of $2000. Personal loans are a ball ache and risky so the yield has to be worthy. One of the reason student debt one of the biggest expense can't be wiped out just paid or delayed.

Debt creates money out of thin air, it doesn't cost the bank anything. So why do we allow this by private organisations that don't have our best interest at heart?

Conversely; if you don't pay your debt and ignore it completely for a couple years, it will also be cut in half.

I would offer a lower interest rate to anyone who say had 5 million in real estate and would secure the loan. Most corps would be more then eager to loan money to wealthy because even in the unlikely hood of default they can still recoup their money on the loan with a level of certainty.

I love the saying - owe the bank a million, shame on me. Owe the bank ten million, shame on them.
